Chapter 3 - Mystery Letter

"Aiden, what up!" Angelo called out.

He ran up to a boy with black and white hair. He looked cute.

"Hey Angy. Oh, who is the newbie?" He asked, staring at me.

I blushed a little, I don't know why.

"I-I'm Jayla, and you are?" I asked.

"Well I'm Aiden, Aiden Hustler." He said, smiling broadly at me.

I just smiled back at him.

"I have to go to the office and get my locker number and the rest. Can anyone please show me where it is.

Before Angelo could say anything, Aiden quickly said "I will. Classes don't start for another 30 mins so I can take you there and maybe show you around if your up for it."

"Awe, thanks." I said laughing.

"I- yeah sure. I'll take Hayley to the library. We have a calculus homework to catch up on." Angelo huffed. He seemed not to like Hayley as much as he does like me.

"Well, let's go then." I said, running over to Aiden.

He took my hand in his and led me to the office. After I got my locker number '357' and schedule we walked back to the hallway with 15 mins left to spare.

"Wait, I have to go to the bathroom." I told Aiden and he nodded.

I ran down the hallway in look for the bathroom. Instead I ended up in a somehow ruin part of the school. I was about to turn back until something caught my eye. A note, in a crack in the ruin wall. Out of curiosity, I walked over to the note and took it out of the wall. On it it said: 'Hello!'

It was written in red paint....wait....BLOOD?! I almost dropped the letter after I realized what it was. Maybe I'll show it to Angelo or Aiden or Hayley. Wait, no. I'll show Angelo because I trust him more. I put the note in my pocket and quickly ran back the way I came and to my first class.

Once classes before lunch was over, I rushed out of class to the cafeteria. I spotted Angelo on a table with.....Ashley. Ashley and Katie with a bunch of other girls and boys. Angelo and Ashley seemed to be in a deep conversation, their finger tips where even touching. A tall black boy beside Ashley who seemed to be her boyfriend, was staring at Angelo with pure hatred but he didn't seem to notice.

I ran over to Angelo.

"Hey Ash, can I please borrow him for a sec?" I asked, holding on to Angelo's arm.

"Yeah sure, whatever." She grumbled. She looked annoyed once I came over.

"Thanks." I said. I dragged Angelo up and out the cafeteria.

"Ok, stop!" He yelled, once we where alone in the disserted hallways.

"I'm sorry." I finally said.

"Yeah but I was actually talking to Ashley. We where having a moment." He mumbled.

I felt my heart sink a little.

"Just see what I found." I said, getting the note out of my duffel bad and showing him.

"What is this?" He asked, calming down a little.

"I found this in a ruin part of the school. I think it's written in blood." I explained to him, showing him the letter.

"Have you read it yet?" He asked.

"No, I wanted to wait to show you." I explained to him. I unfolded the note and we read it. It said:

Dear Reader,

Please HELP ME! There's something terribly wrong with this school. RUN, RUN FAR AWAY.

I remember when I was first day until I met 'HIM' and not my life is ruined. 'HE' showed me the door, 'HE' took my life from me, 'HE' was the one working with the evil.

I'm Averie Riventer and I'm dead. If you find this note, this is my ghost. My sole is trapped in this HELL OF A SCHOOL AND I NEED YOUR HELP TO FIND A WAY OUT OF HERE!

I set clues around the school. There will be spirits and monsters trying to stop you but please HELP ME!

Only 4 students will be able to help me. They are the special 4. The only people able to read this note are them.

OH NO, HE'S HERE! RUN, SAVE YOUR SELVES. THE SPECIAL 4, PLEASE COME SOON!

"What the fuck is this?!" Angelo exclaimed.

"I don't know. Should we tell Aiden and Hayley?" I asked.

"No. And anyway, how can we be sure they're the remaining 2 people we need." He explained, looking down at me.

"Well worth a try." I told him. I immediately ran to the cafeteria to get them. They where seating together in a corner of the room . I ran up to them and showed them the letter.

"Woah, who wrote that?" Aiden asked.

"Yeah, it looks so ancient in...blood?!" Hayley shrieked.

"Guys, come." I said. They stood up and we ran out of the cafeteria back to Angelo.

"So, is it them?" Angelo asked.

"Yeah." I said. I gave the note to Hayley and Aiden to read.

"I- this is messed up! Are you sure this isn't a prank?" Aiden asked, turning to me and Angelo.

"Who is sick enough to use blood to write down this bullshit?!" Angelo almost yelled out.

"He's right. Hey, Jayla, can you show us where you found this letter?" Hayley asked.

"Yeah." Aiden said.

I ran in the direction of the ruin part of the school. I looked for where I last found the note. There was something attached to the wall. It said:

'When the clock chimes midnight, Ill be waiting for you everyday. But once it's 6am, I'll disappear.'

"What does this mean?" Aiden asked.

"I don't know. Maybe it has to do with Averie Riventer. I think." Angelo suggested.

"So, what should we do?" Hayley asked, looking at me.

"Well, we come back to school at midnight." I insisted.

"What?! I already hate coming to school and waking up late but not I have to stay up late AND go to school?!" Hayley whined.

"Oh stop acting like a baby, Jayla's right." Aiden said, staring down at me and grinning.

I blushed a little out of embarrassment and smiled back at him.

"Yeah ok lovebirds." Angelo grumbled.

Aiden chuckled a little and I giggled.

"So, we meet here, 11:55pm tonight?" I asked, re-insuring.

"Yeah, I guess." Angelo mumbled.

"Well, I have to go back to the cafeteria. Hayley, you coming?" Aiden asked.

"Yeah." Hayley said, running to the cafeteria after Aiden.

Once they where out of sight, I looked over at Angelo who was now staring at the floor.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Before I could say anything, he pulled my to a hug. He snaked his hand on my waste.

Still in shock, I rapped my hand on his neck.

"A-Are you ok?" I stuttered.

All I got was a sniff.

"Hm." I said. I then thought-

The I started singing 'never fully dressed without a smile by sia'.

Once I was done singing he lifted his head up and looked down at me.

"You have the voice of an angel, you know right?" He said in a deep raspy voice. I blushed as I looked up to his eyes.

"No I don't." I said, giggling.

"Yeah sure. " He chuckled, rolling his eyes.

"So boy, what's up?" I finally said, reaching my hand up to ruffle his hair.

He just sighed.

"I live alone...with my 2 younger siblings. I'm just scared to leave them alone." He said, sighing.

"Oh. Why can't you hire a baby sitter for them?" I asked, confused.

He looked at me as if it was obvious.

"I don't trust other people with them." He grumbled.

"Well, they can stay with my siblings in Ashley's house." I insisted.

He stared down at me then squeezed me into a tighter hug.

"Thanks Jay." He said.

I laughed and hugged him back.

"Your welcome." I said.

The bell rang.

"Oh shit, I have Chemistry now so, bye." I said, letting go of Angelo and running down the hall.

Well, what a night we about to have...
