Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Away for a Month

CRYSTAL'S POV

John and I were sitting on our desks waiting for our names to be called to get our report cards. John was visibly shaking and mentally freaking out while I was leaning my head on my arm, not worrying about my grades since I already know I have all A's.

But as I was about to let out a yawn, a voice spoke from the speaker.

"Seraphina, please report to the main office. I repeat, Seraphina, please report to the main office now"

As soon as we heard those words, John and I looked at each other with a worried expression across our faces. Damn, Elaine did snitch! I whispered to myself. But my train of thought was soon interrupted by the teacher calling my name.

"Ms. Nightingale!"

I stood up from my seat and walked towards the teacher to collect my report card. As soon as I looked at it, I just smirked to myself knowing I was correct about my grades. After a few more minutes of students getting their cards the bell rang, and John and I quickly gathered our things and rushed out of the classroom.

We continued running towards the main office until I got a text from Sera.

"John! Hold on, I got a text from Sera"

I said getting out my phone to read the message. And soon enough the black-haired boy rushed to my side.

"Well? What does it say?"

I quickly read the message and my eyes widened.

"Meet me at the school gates asap."

"Quick! She's by the gates and she said we have to get here ASAP"

With no time to lose, we rushed outside to the school gates and saw Sera standing in front of a car with her luggage bag beside her.

"Hey, Sera! What's the luggage for?"

I asked as I bent down to catch my breath. Sera let out a sad sigh before responding.

"I have a flight home in two hours, Elaine ratted me out afterall. So they decided to send me home for a month"

"What!? That's insane! They didn't have to take it that far"

"Yeah that's what I thought too, but they wanted to make sure that I cleanse my mind from the book's ideas and not spread influence. But on the bright side, they won't be going after you anytime soon"

I glanced at John beside me and noticed how his aura turned dark in a second as he held both Sera's shoulders and said.

"Sera! Stop talking about it like it's nothing. What if you've been found out, your punishment would have been more severe, that not even your reputation nor the headmaster could save you. You should have told them the truth! That the book belongs to me!"

"None of that matters anymore, what matters is that we got through this. This will be the last we will ever hear of "Unordinary". When I return after a month this will all be behind us."

" I guess that's true"

We all smiled at each other until the car driver honked at us.

"That's my cue to go...I'll text you guys when I get home"

"Stay safe Sera! Don't let them do anything weird"

"Yeah! Kick them in the balls if they try anything!"

Sera let out a small chuckle as she smiled at us.

"Okay, I'll keep that in mind."

As she was getting in the car we were waving bye at her, with a sad smile on our faces. We watched as the car Sera as on started moving and before we knew it, it was already out of view.

I let out a sigh before turning to John. He doesn't remove his gaze from the empty street until I shook his shoulder.

"Sera can handle it, she's our friend after all"

"Yeah, me too"

We then started walking back inside the building.

"Let's just hope, that things go well for Sera" John nodded his head in agreement as we started heading back inside. But just before we could step into the hallways a loud shout came from behind us.

"Hey! Both of you!"

We both turned our heads to see a spiky gray-haired guy, who John and I identified as Gavin. The one who punched me in the face.

"Long time no see, I believe we still have unfinished business." He said while activating his ability.

"I think you have the wrong people. Bye!"

"Hey! Come back here!"

John then grabbed my arm and ran away, Gavin not too far behind us. We then suddenly stopped at a dead end.

"Ha! Got you now!"

In one swift movement, Gavin kicked John on the side. Making John let out a loud groan. He then pushed Gavin onto the floor giving us enough time to escape John grabbed my arm again and ran while throwing his test papers at him.

"Why you little- you'll pay for that. Where..."

John and I continued running as fast as we can. But we stopped running as soon as Gavin tackled John to the ground causing me to fall on my side.

"A cripple thinks he can outrun me!? Keep dreaming buddy. I won't fall for your stupid tricks anymore. Now! Time for payback! "

Before Gavin could punch John in the face, I stopped him with my ability. My eyes glowed a faint gold color, making sure they don't notice. Gavin stopped in his tracks, stood up, and left. I helped John up, who looked confused and relieved from Gavin's action just now. Then started walking towards the infirmary to get his injuries checked.

We then arrived in front of the infirmary door, we entered it and saw a dark blue-haired guy wearing a lab coat and who I assumed was Doc. Doc turned to us and saw John, and understood the situation. He led John and me to a booth and I sat down on the chair while John sat on the bed.

"Back so soon, it hasn't even been four hours since Seraphina left...and you already have a black eye and a broken rib. If it weren't for Crystal here, you would have gotten even more injuries."

" Yeah, I know"

Doc just shrugged his shoulders then left, leaving Me and John alone. Getting bored I took out my phone and started playing some online Uno.

"Hey Crystal, what happened back there?"

I tensed up but quickly relaxed. I placed my phone back in my pocket and turned to him.

"I uh..just used my ability..."

I said softly while staring at the floor. John just looked at me with an intrigued and confused expression on his face.

"But what exactly is your ability? You've never mentioned anything about it before, not even your level"

"I-l...I don't really wanna talk about it right now, maybe next time."

John just nodded his head before lying down on the bed. I sighed to myself, knowing that I have to tell my friends sooner or later. After a few more hours have passed, it was getting a little late so I told John that I'll be going home now, so we said our goodbyes and I left.
