Chapter 125 - Military school

"So how'd you end up here, anyway?" She asked me with confusion clearly present in her voice, "Well, some... things are going on at home. "Oh, I'm sorry. If you don't want to talk about it, then you don't have to tell me I was just curious." Sapphire was kind of different from the last time I had seen her. She was more kind.

I chuckled softly and ran my hands through my hair. "It's fine. I don't really mind." I responded, fiddling with the only dry grass. "Do you mind me asking why you're here?" I said, turning around to face her. Sapphire glanced towards me and looked away, then she turned again and made direct eye contact.

Sapphire looked like she was about to tell me something, but she just broke eye contact and left me wondering what she was about to say. "Theo, can I ask you a question?" Sapphire almost whispered, "Yeah, of course." "If everything and everyone you loved were taken away from you, suddenly. Without warning, how would you react? Would you deny it? Want it back?"

"I'd try denying it, then I'd accept it, but hate everything that I still have after." Sapphire shifted around and so did I. We were pretty close and our knees were touching and it looked like we were about to kiss or something. We both sat there for some time and stared into the eyes of each other.

I then broke eye contact, hearing another person come through. And more and more people, Sapphire then got up and left, going back to the building. "We can leave?" I said, standing up clumsily, "Yeah, just listen for the PA system and you can do whatever you want." So I followed her, convincing myself that we were just going the same way.

Going to B-block, I went to almost the same place as Sapphire, but I really just wanted to know where the cafeteria was. "Sapphire, where's the cafeteria?" I said, scratching my head. "Where do you think I'm heading?" Sapphire said, looking back at me.

So I followed behind her silently. I felt very awkward and nervous but eventually we had found our way to the cafeteria. I got a trap so did she. We sat down at a table with one other girl who had shorter hair than Sapphire. She looked confused and slightly shocked seeing me.

"Delia, this is my friend Theo. He just got here." I extended a hand, and she shook it. "Nice to meet you, Delia." "You too." She replied quietly she didn't seem to have a very defined and strong personality. At least that's my first assumption about her. I shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

I ate in silence... They're not very social people, are they? "So what's next up?" "Well, we've got sparring. Be careful. You can get hurt pretty bad and since it's already what? 4 pm? We have some other things to do, like strategy. Then after that it's free for the rest of the day until war day."

War day? What's war day? That doesn't sound good at all. "What's war day?" I asked, "One of the most mentally and physically stressing day that is possible." Delia replied to my question, "I'm pretty sure that's what sums it up." Sapphire added in agreeing with Delia.

Okay.. Sounds rough. I'm kind of looking forward to it in anticipation, just to see what it's like. I threw the plate away. I was starving. I can't even recall the taste of the food. The PA system turned on with a beep and a rough voice called out. "SPARRING TIME KIDS!!!!!" He seemed so excited just to see us fight each other. What's wrong with him?

I walked outside, nor like I followed Delia and Sapphire.

I saw the big concrete slab separate by dug out black lines. It seemed like it was going to be tough. It seemed like I was one of the weakest here, too, just barely making the mark.
