"Laine Taylor, I suggest you get your ass up and wear this corset dress right this instant!" sneered laine's step-mom, Doris, at her.
Laine sighed, what's the point of arguing with this dumb bitch, and took the dress from the maid's hands.
"Can't even dress right! what a shame!" muttered Doris and left the room. Laine was used to all this. This was all going on with her ever since her real mother, Erika, ran away from the house and her father married Doris. The evil step-mom. Sounds cliche I know except this wasn't the 1880's, but it was 2021!
In people's eyes, laine has the ideal life that everyone wants. Good parents, money and looks with all the grades.
But to laine, it wasn't what she wanted. She didn't want all this.
She wanted a life full of adventure, thrill, and excitement. she didn't want to wear corset dresses to tea parties. She wanted to wear short dresses to local pubs and dance all night. She didn't want a humongous castle with thousands of servants to serve her instead she wanted a small and cute little cottage where she could cook meals for herself.
So sighing, again, laine wore the crystal white corset dress that her mother had chose for her and got ready for the tea party of Ms. Lancaster.
Laine lives in Kensington Palace Gardens, London. Her father owns The Dimond, the most famous British multimedia entertainment company in the WORLD. In short, Laine is crazy rich! but as someone said, Money can't buy happiness.
Laine quickly puts on some eyeliner, mascara, and a coat of pink Lakme lipgloss and hurries down after wearing her black stiletto heels.
As soon as laine hurries down, she is met with Doris who has a grim expression on her caked-up face. "Well well well, look who got ready early" Doris spits at her, while laine just looks down not even daring to meet her eye.
Doris just shakes her head, mumbling incoherent words under her breath, and turns around and asks her chauffeur to get their limo.
They both get in and the driver drives off to Lancaster's mansion while some old guzzles are playing on the radio.
And laine lets out a shaky breath since there's also one person who's going to be there. Sid.
Sid is the first son of the Lancaster's and laine's 'destined' husband sometime in the future. Mr. Taylor, laine's dad, and Mr.Lancaster had vowed their heirs were going to be married. Sucks she knows, but well that's what it is.
Soon they arrive at their destination and Mrs. Donatelli, Doris's personal maid, opens the door and lets them out.
The moment they reach the entrance gates they are greeted by two women, wearing black dresses and their heads tied up in a bun, holding silver plates in their hands which have many silver bracelets decorated with white bands.
"Good morning Mrs. and Ms. Taylor," the servants say, smiling politely at them.
Laine smiles back at them whereas Doris just gives them a stern look, picks up a bracelet and wears it, and walks forward without even acknowledging the maids.
Laine then steps forward and kindly takes a bracelet and wears it on her right-hand wrist admiring how the crystals beam in the sunlight. She looks up at the maid and smiles politely again while saying a thank you. The maid in return smiles and nods, mumbling a quiet thankyou!
This makes laine's heart warm and she nods at her and goes in, instantly met by Sid.
"Hello, gorgeous" Sid smirks at her. "Shut it" laine mutters under her breath but still smiles politely and nods at him too. She then spots Mrs. Lancaster and Mrs. O'Brien, Dylan, her best friend's mother.
Laine quickly makes her way to them. She squeals and runs a bit to hug Ms. O'Brien. Laine has known her since she was a small child as she used to spend most of her time there.
"Hi my dear," Mrs. O'Brien said and laine said hi back and darted her eyes to Mrs. Lancaster who had her eyes narrowed and her face set to a frown.
"Hi, Mrs. Lancaster" laine smiled at her while kissing her cheeks.
"Hi dear," Mrs. Lancaster fake smiled "did you like the bracelet?"
"Yeah it's gorgeous" laine replied.
"Yeah well obviously, since my husband made it" Laine nodded politely and turned to Mrs. O'Brien
"I'll talk to you later, yeah?" She whispered to Her, who nodded and smiled at her.
Laine then went off to find Dylan but couldn't find him so took out her phone to text him.
To Dylan:
Where are you? I'm here x
From Dylan:
Meet me in the backyard xx
Laine switched her phone off and made her way to the backyard, she knew the way since she'd come here many times.
She opens the door and sees Dylan sitting on the old swing set that had been there for ages. She smiles and goes to sit there.
"Hey, shit head, wats up?" Dylan says, drawing something in his sketch pad. Laine fake-gasped And swatted his head before sitting down and peeping on what he's drawing. "Same old same old, Doris yelled at me for not wearing this stupid dress. So had to wear it"
"God such a bitch" Dylan frowned still not looking up at laine.
"At least look at me, Dee!" So Dylan looked up at her and smiled "hi" and looked down again making laine roll her eyes.
"You are such a Di-" laine got interrupted by a text.
From Sera
Hey, where are you? Doris's looking for you x
Laine sighed and quickly wrote back coming
"Come on let's go, the tea party's beginning"
"You go, I am gonna take a puff," Dylan said taking his cigarette out. Laine rolled her eyes but still went.
She quickly made her way to the front garden where all the ladies were sitting and chatting while sipping their tea.
Laine sat beside sera, Sid's step-sister, who embraced her in a hug and quickly kissed her cheek. Laine kissed her back and opened her mouth to talk o her but then she got interrupted when she heard her name being called by Mrs. Pacific, wife of Christian Pacific (he owned a chain of ports and ships and of course was very rich.)
"Laine dear, what are your plans for the future, hmm?" She said while sipping her tea and playing with the bracelet that was gifted to everyone.
Laine thought for a second. " I am thinking to go the university of to--" she got interrupted by Doris' cracking up.
When she notices that she had caught everyone's attention, she cleared her throat straightened her posture, and said "I am sorry, I meant to cough slightly but at the end ended up doing a horrible job of it" with an amused smile on her face.
Laine raised her eyebrows at her and was about to speak when Mrs. O'Brien beat her to it. "What's so funny, Doris?" She asked to which Doris replied.
"Hmm? Oh, nothing. It was just amusing to hear her want to go to a university!"
"What do you mean mother" laine spoke while trying to keep her voice in check.
" I mean you are obviously not going anywhere, hon! You are soon to be married to the young and handsome Sid. There's no time for you to waste on stupid universities if you are just going to cook food, isn't it?"
After that everyone kept quiet, just whispering to each other while stealing glances at Laine.
And this was that, laine's life. Tea parties, balls and money.
A bird in a golden cage.
