Myah plopped down on the couch feeling tired. She'd been on edge all day especially during my fight with Zack. I walked to the kitchen and moving to the fridge I took out two bottles of coke and moved to the couch, handing her one I plopped down on a couch with a heavy sigh. I looked over at Myah and frowned a bit. She was looking at the coke strangely which was weird to me. " Uh Myah you've had a coke before right", I said slowly. She looked at me then at the coke and shrugged sheepishly. I rolled my eyes making her whine like I was going to laugh at her.
I took the coke from her hand and going to the counter I banged it on the edge of it and brought it back to her. She looked like someone who'd been given a puppy.
I smiled a bit and took a swig of mine. "Will you show me how to do that", she asked in a small voice. Rolling my eyes I set my coke down on the centre table and stood in front of her. That was one of the moments I realized I was pretty tall since Myah was looking right up at me from the couch.
"First of all Myah you don't need to be so respectful there's no need for that and you're too meek liven up I'm not going to eat you up or beat you", I said " so chill out ok",
Myah took a deep breath and stood up on the couch so that she was on level with me. Then she wrapped her arms around my neck and wrapped her legs around my waist in a big hug. " uh what are you doing?", I asked. She looked in the face and smiled. " Well you said to feel free so I guess this is how I do it", she said. Looking straight into her eyes I realized she was very beautiful and just how close my crotch was to committing a crime so I set her down nicely and taking my coke I took a big swig.
In that same second I sensed something approaching fast. I turned to late as someone burst through my wall and punched me hard in the face sending me flying far across the room before driving me into the ground. I kicked him off with savage force and leaping to my feet i leaped at him with a heavy right hook.
He didn't even flinch or budge. He was bulky and wearing a black cloak with cuff links. His head was covered in a black head wrapping with only his eyes visible. And they were blood red. Grabbing my hand, he twisted it and slammed me down right into the ground before tossing me above his head. Opening my eyes he was above me, his hands raised above his head. My eyes widened as I realized what was coming next. Before I could bring my hands into a block he slammed like a rocket straight into the ground. Myah screamed and came running towards me. I clawed my way out of the small crater slowly as the man landed behind me. I turned my head instantly as he grabbed my leg and swung me around in an arc and into a nearby building. I sat up groggily as he came at me again. I sidestepped just in time or so I thought as he he spun sideways with an upper cut sending straight through the house and into the street. I could hear the screams of the neighbors as the man walked through a the debris. I leaped at him again with a kick. He blocked and countered with a left hook. Rolling over it I hit him with a fire fist sending him through several cars. He rolled to his feet instantly shaking the ground with the force of his landing. I wiped the blood from my forehead and flew at him, grabbing a car as I did and bringing it down on him.Grabbing it he wrenched from my hand and slammed it on me like a fly right into the ground. I gasped and coughed hard. He brought his foot down on my chest driving me into the ground and twisting his foot for extra pressure. I cried out coughing blood.
" I expected more of the nest hunter. Turns out you're just a boy after all.Nothing special",He said.
"Who… who are you?", I asked between coughs.
He cocked his head at me as if it was an insult to ask that.
" There's no reason for you to know my name weakl…", he started but stopped and seemed to grin under the the face covering. " You're not going all out because of all these people of course. Maybe somewhere more private will do but that will be for another time seems like your friends are coming to help you from that pathetic agency", He said looking up . I turned my head slowly to see a number of figures heading towards us at great speed.
" Another time hunter.Another time. Pray you don't dissappoint", he said in a low tone. Raising his foot he brought it down twice with greater force driving me into the grind even further before literally disappearing into the air.
Myah rushed up to me crying while a few of the neighbors gathered around confused. Suddenly My squad captain Adam the was above me pulling out of the hole.
He popped open a bottle of Phoenix tears and poured just a drop into my mouth. It healed me instantly.
In a second I was able to breathe easier and see better to. I sat up groggily not entirely healed.
" Who was that Kai?", Adam asked in a serious tone. I shook my head as I saw the other squad members checking for casualties and repairing damaged property.
" I dunno who that was. What I do know is he wanted to fight me. Just to see how strong I was", I said slowly. Adam smirked.
" Seems like he gave u a good beating. You know, you shouldn't have taken that beating. Even though people are around you should've put up more of a fight. That was a careless move. You could've forced him to a much safer area", Adam said disapprovingly.
I sighed as I stood up. Myah hugged me tightly. Adam raised an eyebrow. " A relative?", he asked. I nodded. He nodded back not saying anything.
After a few hours and some more round checks Adam and the others left. it was well near ten pm when they finally left. They had repaired the neighborhood as well as my place. I plopped down on my bed thinking about what Adam had said. He was right. Not fighting back could've killed me. Was it because of Myah? Maybe subconsciously I didn't want her to see anything violent. But even then I should've driven him somewhere else. Well he's assured me he's be back. I couldn't let my guard down, no I had to be alert at all times. The only place he wouldn't attack me was at the Headquarters. But I wasn't sure maybe he'd be dumb enough to storm the place looking for me. Recently I'd slacked off a lot I'd been taking a serious beating because I didn't want to intimidate or hurt anyone.
Bullshit
If I kept thinking about what people thought of me through my actions I'd end up dead sooner than I wanted.
I couldn't afford to die now anyway. This recent attack confirmed my suspicion that there was something wrong with the supernatural world. Attacks like these had been happening to frequently to be labeled as a coincidence. I needed to get serious and start digging for info otherwise what ever was coming I'd be on the losing end for sure no matter how strong I was. I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice Myah had crept into my bed and was hugging me tightly, her face buried in my neck. I looked down at her. I couldn't protect her if I played the conservative card no I had to be ready to go all out anytime
It was that simple.
" I know I shouldn't be in bed with you but…" Myah began but I cut her off. "No worries Myah. You can sleep here with me as long as you want. I'm not bothered", I said simply. I wasn't looking at her but I could tell from the movement of her lips on my neck she was smiling.
