"What was that all about?" Jennifer asked the following morning.
"I don't know. It must have been the alcohol. I mean, I have never drunk before," I lied.
Truth is, I had never drunk before. But that's not the reason why I behaved the way I did. The real reason, I could not explain. Even to myself. So, how could I tell and explain it to someone else?
"You are never drinking again," Jennifer said with finality.
"Yes, mom," I teased and we both laughed.
"Did you see that yesterday?" she asked.
"See what?"
"Oh please! You were there."
"You mean the party we sneaked up on."
"Exactly. This is going to be juicy gossip. Though everyone knew what was going to happen, I still have to tell them about how everyone dressed."
"What do you mean, 'knew what was going to happen'?"
"Everyone knew of their engagement. I mean, it was all decided upon fourteen years ago. Did you not know?"
"No, I didn't."
I never really cared about what went on within the palace walls, but I guess mother knows. Speaking of whom I had to call. I would do that in the evening after I had finished my work.

I was exhausted. Who knew cleaning up after the elite would be so hectic? I never really thought those guys could leave a mess in their wake.
I fell onto my bed when I got to my room. I covered my eyes with my arm and heaved out a sigh. If only I could get a day off.
While I lay their, I tried to remember what I had wanted to do in the evening. I had that nagging feeling of I-have-to-do-something-I-can't-remember. I went through my day slowly. Then it clicked.
I immediately dialed her number and she picked on the third ring. I was so happy after hearing her voice. It had only been a few days since I talked to her but it felt like ages.
"Hello, mother. How are you doing?" I asked.
"Oh, honey, I'm fine. And so is Bobby. I don't want you calling all the time or else you'll lose your job," she lectured.
"I just missed you so much."
"I miss you too, honey. I saw in today's paper that Prince Alexander is officially engaged. Tell me, how was everyone dressed?" Oh mother!
"Did you not see them in the paper?" I asked, unable to keep a smile off my face.
"Yes, but is Princess Catherine as beautiful as she looks in the tabloids?" That wiped the smile off instantly.
"She is pretty, no doubt."
"Oh, those two look so good together. They are so in love." Ouch. That hit a target somewhere I just don't know exactly where. "They will undoubtedly have beautiful children."
"Um, mother, I have to go now. Today was quite busy and I am terribly exhausted. Talk to you soon?"
"My poor baby girl. Go to rest now. Bye."
I had to get rid of my stupid crush on the Prince. As far as I could see, if this went on, I would definitely end up scarred where no one could see. Then I might as well be doomed for the rest of my life.
