Chereads / Forced To Love My Boss / Chapter 34 - Crossfire

Chapter 34 - Crossfire

Both Andre and Rhode could tell from the look in each other's eyes that today's matter would not be simple. They might make a move.

"Rhode, go down and take a look."

Rhode picked up the pistol in the car, put it behind his waist, and got out very carefully.

When he opened the car door, Rhode's first reaction was to observe the surrounding environment. This highway was alongside a mountain range and ran through the whole forest, dividing the wide expanse of land into two.

Clearly, this tall and flourishing forest was a good place to hide.

Rhode stood at the car door for a while, but he did not find anything unusual. He gave Andre a look and then walked toward the item on the road—that was designed to wreck car tires—with great caution.

Andre had been paying close attention to the surrounding situation. At the same time, his mind kept pondering over who exactly had dared to set a trap for him.

Andre had already long announced his withdrawal from the Brian crime syndicate and would not participate in any internal disputes ever again.

When he first left the Brian family, many people had come to challenge him, but they had all been defeated by him.

In the past two years, there weren't many people who had used this kind of mafia tactics against him.

Could it be Catherine?

However, hadn't she already invited him to take Layla back to the manor? Furthermore, Andre had already agreed to her request!

In that case, why had Catherine made such an unnecessary arrangement?

Although Andre's forces were not as strong as before, this did not mean that he did not have the ability to retaliate.

There was no way Catherine would not understand that falling out would not benefit anyone.

As he was thinking, Andre saw a group of masked men in black coming out of the forest beside the road and running quickly onto the highway. The people in the front row dashed toward Rhode, while the well-trained people in the back row sprawled on the road and fired at Rhode.

"Rhode, be careful!" Andre shouted loudly.

When Rhode heard Andre's reminder, he reacted instantly. Thankfully, he was still rather agile and did not get restrained by the approaching men in black.

Before Layla could react, she was pulled into Andre's arms again.

"It's dangerous. Don't move!"

Bang, bang, bang! Before he could finish speaking, Layla heard intense gunshots ring out around them.

Rhode and the men in black had already started fighting. Andre frowned deeply. Judging from the firepower, they should be targeting him.

This group of masked men also had guns on them. One look and one could tell that they were well-trained and organized people too. Rhode was barely holding them back alone.

Upon seeing the current situation, Andre's brows furrowed tightly. He turned around and told Layla quickly, "Lie in the car and don't move! I'm going to help him!"

Before Layla could speak, Andre raised his pistol and dashed out.

After Andre left, the gunshots became even more intense.

Layla had never experienced such a situation before, so she was extremely nervous. However, she was especially worried about Andre. In the end, her anxiety won over her fear. Layla used both her hands to support her body as she inched toward him.

After watching for a while, Layla realized that something was not right.

There were many men in black, and they all had guns. Logically speaking, the duo should have been defeated quickly.

However, the two forces stayed in a stalemate.

Layla also saw that the men in black did not seem to truly dare fire at Andre. Every time, they would shoot at the car door beside him.

While Layla was feeling confused, she saw the leader of the men in black notice her appearance in the car and direct the others to rush over to her side.

Layla was very puzzled inwardly. No matter how she looked at it, this group of men in black seemed to be targeting her.

Could their real target be her?

Layla decided to test her theory out. She did not try to approach Andre anymore but moved in the opposite direction.

Indeed, when the men in black realized this, they focused their attacks on Layla.

"That stupid woman still dares to mess around at this time!"

Worried and furious, Andre quickly used the car as a cover to head over to Layla and protect her.

At this moment, Layla saw a man in black holding a military knife in the rearview mirror. He had already rounded to the other side of the car and was about to stab the person coming out of the car.

Andre was about to exit at this juncture. In this critical moment, Layla had no time to think. She used all her strength to pounce toward him.
