Layla's parents had gotten divorced when she was very young. Because of her young age, Layla had always lived with her mother in C City.
Layla looked like a very bright and confident girl now, but the truth was that, in her childhood, she had felt very inferior because of her family.
It was also because of this reason that Layla worked much harder than others in everything.
She didn't even know how much hard work she had put in to achieve such enviable results today, and become the model and outstanding representative in the eyes of her parents, friends, and classmates.
Fortunately, although her parents had separated, their love for Layla had always existed. Coupled with Layla's own efforts, this created the perfect Layla today.
Layla wept openly in her father's arms before her emotions gradually calmed down. She stared fiercely at that human skull and vented her inner anger with her eyes.
"Dad, I want to go home. Can you bring me home, please?"
Darren felt like his heart was going to shatter at Layla's words.
Darren was already 47 years old this year, and he only had this one precious daughter although he was nearing his fifties.
Even though he had separated from Layla's mother for certain reasons, this did not affect him from loving and doting on his daughter like a pearl in his palm!
Now, someone actually dared to run away without a trace after hitting his daughter!
On one hand, his heart ached, and on the other, he was furious. Darren swore in his heart that he must find out the culprit behind the hit-and-run!
Darren gently patted his daughter's quivering body. "Okay," he said gently. "Don't be afraid. Don't be scared, Layla. Dad's here. Dad will take you home."
Layla completed the discharge procedures with her father's company, but her legs still couldn't move so she was carried into the backseat by him.
Darren helped her buckle her seat belt and then, at Layla's insistence, he had to return the hospital wheelchair.
Layla gazed after her father's back view, and her heart suddenly ached. Tears flowed down her face without control.
She felt helpless and guilty at the same time. She was already an adult, yet her father still had to worry about her like this.
Layla took a deep breath and wiped her tears away. Only then did she realize that the evil spirit had not followed her from the hospital!
Layla's mood finally eased a little. She firmly believed that the immobilization of her legs should have something to do with the evil spirit that had appeared in the hospital.
As long as she returned home and shook off that evil spirit, she believed that everything would get better!
Due to worry for his daughter, Darren came back soon. He took Layla back to the house that was both familiar and alien to him.
The feeling of familiarity was because he had stayed here for as long as eight years previously, and the unfamiliarity was because he had not returned here for too long a time.
Darren placed his daughter carefully on the sofa and prepared to go get Layla a drink of water.
Layla was about to take a good rest when that sharp and ear-piercing voice suddenly rang in her ear again. "Hehehe, do you think you can get rid of me?! Stupid woman!"
This time, the sense of luck that had just emerged in Layla's heart—from receiving a new lease of life—immediately vanished completely.
She opened her eyes and saw that d*mned dark green skull at first glance!
The fear and anger in her heart made Layla unable to bear but curse loudly at the skull, "Ah! Get lost! Get lost! How did you get into my house?! Get lost!"
Layla had even made a careful observation when they left the hospital and were sitting in the car. She did not find any trace of this thing, let alone feel its existence!
Layla was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. There was nothing more devastating than this feeling of hope being mercilessly snuffed out.
Layla's first reaction was fear while her second reaction of rage in her heart overpowered the fear. There were no weapons she could use easily around her.
She gave the room a rough glance, picked up the drinking glass on the table in front of her, and threw it towards the floating skull!
The glass mug that had been gaining momentum stopped strangely just as it was about to penetrate the skull.
Only to see that skull laugh effortlessly, and the glass mug that had stopped in midair just now fell to the ground straight away and shattered into eight pieces.
Layla was shocked. Fear and helplessness swept through her once again.
Suddenly, she began to feel intense pain from that spot with the dark purple palm print on her calf.
Layla's legs had clearly lost all feeling, but that frigid and bone-devouring sensation was not affected at all. It was so painful that Layla could not help but cry out loud!
