Chapter 10
Ash
Los Angeles, California
"A feisty one isn't she," Alex commented, laughing, as Sofya disappeared up the stairs. I tossed him a towel and sighed. She was probably pissed at me. I would be too if she pretended to drown. Alex walked over to the couch and lounged across it. I sat down in one of the chairs encircling the couch. "So she's the one in the legend?" Alex asked after I told him what had happened today and all that had happened with Sam, thank god he left on a "business trip". I knew I could trust Alex, he had proven it a few years ago when I messed up an assignment and almost got myself killed. I shuddered. That was not something I liked to remember.
"Yeah, I can see her aura," I said. Alex looked at me, a questioning look on his face.
"Are you sure you aren't the guardian, I thought only guardians could see auras?" I shook my head.
"I couldn't be, I'm not firstborn, Raphael is her guardian, only firstborns are chosen." No matter what I feel. The latter just jumped into my head. I wished I was the guardian. I did not want my brother to have her, not when I had just gotten her back but I'd do anything to keep her safe even if that meant I would never see her again. Alex gave me a strange look. He always seemed to know how I was thinking. Which was unfortunate, for me.
"Ash, you haven't fallen for a certain adorably feisty princess have you? You were supposed to kill her." He asked. I sighed.
"I know it's forbidden and I couldn't kill her. I knew her from a couple of years back. I saved her life. I wasn't about to take it away. Plus she could finally solve our Alek problem." Alex nodded in agreement, he hated Alek just as much as I did but he didn't look like he believed me, that I wouldn't try to pursue her, but my feelings were my problem.
"Does she know about the legend?"
"No, she didn't even know what she was, I think her parents vanished about tenish years ago and she was put in foster care. I'll talk to her tomorrow. I want to ease into this so she doesn't freak out, well no more than she already is." I decided it was best not to tell Alex about the precognition, especially since it involved me. He would never let me leave the house if he found out, actually no. He would send me straight back to Alek because he knew that Alek wanted me alive. But I'm sure he wouldn't after I failed this mission. I stood up.
"I'm going to head to my room," I told Alex then started up the stairs.
"Night," Alex said. I went up and checked in on Sofya, she was sound asleep in her bed. I stared for a moment, but gathered my senses and left. Then I got to my room, changed, and crawled into the cold bed.
I woke up shivering and drenched with sweat. Just another nightmare. I cleaned up taking a quick shower then got dressed and threw on my jacket and made my way through the hallway.
When I got downstairs I found Alex freaking out in the kitchen. One of the windows was cracked and a frying pan was on the floor. Oh my god. What has happened now?
"Alex, what the heck?" I asked as I entered. He turned to me, his eyes filled with terror.
"She's gone." He whispered. Fear spiked through me.
"What do you mean she's gone?" I said my tone was flat.
"Sofya. They took her, people in black. She went to open the door and then she was gone." He said, pacing back and forth. Fury flowed through my veins and I ran out the door, the cool autumn breeze hitting my face. There was nothing out here. Suddenly, something collided with the back of my head, and the darkness swallowed me.
I blinked my eyes. I noticed I was in a car. It was a nice car, a limo. I also noticed I was handcuffed to the door. I yanked hard on the cuffs and pumped magic through them. They wouldn't break, they were magic proof. Lovely, just lovely. Hadn't enough things gone wrong this week already?
I struggled to contain the magic that was boiling in my veins, my nails clawing my palms. How dare they, didn't they know who I was? They were going to pay, if I was lucky they were the same people who kidnapped Sofya and for that, they would not live.
"Who are you and why did you kidnap me?" My voice is a lethal calm. A middle-aged man with graying black hair in the passenger seat turned around to look at me, he visibly paled. A smile tugged at my lips at his fear. I tugged once more at the cuffs, pressing a good portion of my magic through the cold metal and they snapped.
"I'm Jared." He said, his hands shaking. I didn't give a damn what his name was. "You're Ash, right?
"Yes." I hissed. "You mind explaining why you kidnapped me?" I said glaring at him. If he didn't explain himself in the next ten seconds he'd soon be an unmoving sack of bones. "Well, you know of Alek right?"
"Yes." Ah, the irony. I probably knew Alek the best, out of all the beings in all the worlds.
"After I explain this to you the world as you know it won't exist anymore," Jared said.
"Shure," I said this guy was an utter moron and about five seconds from death.
"There are four known realms that exist in the universe. The Underworld, the Overworld, Earth, and The Land of Dreams. The Underworld has demons, Earth has humans, the Overworld has angels, and the Land of Dreams has an ancient being named Hypnos. Neither species is good or bad, all species have good and bad in them like humans but the majority have no morals. With demons and angels, they have different groups within the species. Like the morai, seraphim, and gyo. Vasilisa, your mother was gyo and Zeke, your father was seraphim. So that makes you an aemon, which is half demon half angel." He said.
I stared at him with my mouth wide open. I was completely baffled, how did he know all of that, he looked human. I couldn't sense any magic in his aura. Most humans didn't know about the other worlds and no humans knew about my parents, they were very secretive and stayed hidden. Like most parents with aemon children, we were very rare and most beings wanted us dead. There were very few of us in the world. How did this human know?
"Right now we are headed to the airport. From there we are flying to a remote island off the coast of Hawaii, you will be safe there. The rest of the aemons will be there too, there are 18 of you total. At least there's supposed to be. In a few hours, we will be at the airport, try to get some sleep." Jared said. I was still trying to process how a human knew this and about me, well not all about me. I couldn't escape, not yet. I had to get Sofya back. I might as well rest while I could. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep. There was nothing I could do but wait. I needed to find Sofya and I would do anything to get her back. Anything.
