Kai walks down a long hallway towards the meeting of state affairs, all he can think of is how he's going to impress his father, this time for sure! He's going to take the spotlight away from his older brother Casper and show the world what he can do. Kai slows down and straightens his garments as he nears the door, then he hears it, the sound of people talking. Not serious talking that you would expect at such an important meeting, the casual sort that usually comes at a party.
Downcast, Kai realizes that they had started and finished the meeting... without him. In frustration he turns and runs back down the hall. "It's not fair!" He whisper-yells to himself as he face plants down on his bed after shutting himself in his room. "I'm smarter than Cas... and I can deal with diplomatic affairs better than he can... why am I always being left out?"
As Kai ponders this question he picks up one of his many books on science and distracts himself by studying it thoroughly. Hours upon hours pass until finally, Kai decides to do something about his situation. He had read almost every book there was and studied in depth every subject he could think of, what use was this knowledge if he couldn't even expect a seat at an official meeting?
Putting away his book Kai wanders down the halls, some servants and officials greet him as he passes but not because they respect him, merely a formality. Kai sighs and just nods back to them. After he gets out of the stuffy castle he takes a deep breath of the fresh brisk air and runs to where his boyfri-his best friend is waiting by the large tree next to the castle wall. "Hi Aaren!" He says happily as he hugs his friend, Aaren grins and hugs back, "hi Kai, how did the meeting go?"
Kai's face falls in response, "that bad huh?" Aaren comments, Kai just sighs and lets his shoulders slump, "they didn't even wait for me, they were finished by the time I got there..." he looks away but Aaren lifts his chin up so their eyes meet, "they just don't recognize how special you are," he tells the young prince. Kai can feel his face beginning to heat up, wishing he had the nerve to confess his feelings but the chance of being rejected was just too much.
Suddenly Aaren leans down and kisses Kai, their blond hair mingles as Kai kisses back in complete surprise. Aaren finally pulls away and smiles at Kai's now very red blushing face, "weren't expecting that were you?" He smirks while Kai stutters, trying to find there right words. "I- when- why-?" Aaren just laughs and pulls Kai in closer, "I knew you liked me, and I like you, so I just thought I'd go for it," the princes friend replies. Kai blushes lightly and holds onto Aaren, one of his only friends in the world.
Days pass... nobody knows about Kai and Aaren, nobody knows the second prince in the kingdom has a prince of his own. After a couple weeks of being fed up with his situation and always being ignored or overlooked Aaren suggest that Kai just stops trying. "They're never going to pay attention to how smart you are," he points out, "why not use your talents to have some fun instead?" Kai frowns and thinks about the idea, there's a lot of stuff he hasn't been able to do because he was always focused on his studies. Plus it would give him more time with Aaren...
"Well?" Aaren interrupts his thoughts, "what do you think?" Kai looks at his boyfriend and kisses him quickly, "only if we can cuddle," Aaren grins and promptly picks up the young prince. "I accept your terms," Kai blushes while Aaren lays on the bed and cuddles him. Eventually they fall asleep together with Kai snuggled into Aarens chest and Aarens arms wrapped around Kai.
When Kai wakes up the next morning he blinks sleepily and looks at Aaren with tired icy-blue eyes. He smiles softly and kisses his amazing boyfriend before getting up and putting on fresh clothes. Kai hears movement behind him and he whirls around with a red face to see Aaren smirking at him, "morning babe." He yawns and winks, "thanks for the show," Kai responds by flushing a deep red and just putting a cloak on. Aaren chuckles and gets off the bed and hugs the prince who hugs back and hides his red face in Aarens chest.
"I love you my prince," Aaren whispers to Kai. Kai smiles, "I love you too Ren," he answers then pulls away from the hug and grabs his purse, "get dressed babe, I want to go have some fun!" Aaren grins and leaves to his house so he can get clean clothes.
