His flaming weapon crashes down upon the boar, pushing it to the side a few meters. He turned towards Qiao An who just looked up at him for a second before getting a hold of herself. When they looked back at the boar it had already started it's charge toward them.
They both expertly dodged to either side before the boar made contact. While they dodged they kept up the pressure on the boar as well, attacking the sides of it as they went.
A boar charges me from the front breaking my stare. With a quick side-step I evade the head-on collision as I retaliated. A wound appears on his side as my sword passes by. The squeals of the boar joined in with others as many begin to be hurt or killed.
While the boar was paying attention to the pain I quickly finished it off by stabbing my sword through it's body. After it rolled over, I took a look around at the slight chaos around me. Boars were practically everywhere within our ranks. Considering that their only attack was basically just a headbutt it made sense.
The only sounds that were heard around were the squeals of boars and swooshes of weapons sailing through the air. Every once in a while the sounds of flames being generated were heard and an even rarer sound was that of the screams of a few disciples.
As I look around I spot another boar in the middle of charging me. A little surprised by the sudden sight I jumped to the side instead. When I turned to face it I saw it was already in the middle of preparing to charge again. This time when he charged I side-stepped, like to the one previously, slashed it's legs, toppling it to it's side a meter or two away.
A few quick steps I stood above him before stabbing straight through his body. Only a few meters away was the corpse of the boar I first killed which lied in a small pool of it's blood. After pulling out my sword I looked over in the direction where Chen Huang and Qiao An were still fighting the large hog beast.
This time the beast had plenty of wounds covering it, mostly on it's sides. Quite a few trails of blood could be seen seeping out of it's open wounds as well. It probably didn't have much time left to live considering the amount of wounds covering it. If the two kept up the pace they might finish in another minute.
Looking around it seems most of the hogs were exterminated, not many remain and they wouldn't be here for long. We should be able to kill the last few soon and then reach those two after they kill that huge hog.
..
With a few final slashes I killed one of the last remaining hogs. Looking up just in time I see a few hogs fall over on it's side or someone pulling their weapon out of their flesh.
"AHHH!!-"
A piercing scream comes from behind me and believing that we merely missed a hog or two who managed to sneak up on a man tuned around. When I turned I saw dozens of others who turned towards the noise as well.
Yet what we all stared at wasn't just a mere boar. It was massive and even bigger than the one Qiao An and Chen Huang faced. With many of it's features more feral than the other boars we've encountered. A large jagged tooth poked out from either side and a few smaller ones poked out as well.
Trapped in it's mouth is a disciple from the Spirited Sun Sect. Most of his upper half was already within the mouth, so the only visible parts of them were the hands and waist down. Their legs lifelessly dangled around from the large boar beast munching on it's upper half. The sounds of crunching probably from the person's bones being crushed was created and reached our entire battlefield.
"H.. H-How dare a mere hog take one of us like this!?" A man, wearing dark red, shouted before running at the oversized creature with his weapon raised.
A few other saw this and joined him in charging at the beast from the sides. Just before they reached the beast it raised one of it's legs up and stomped down on the first man. The man noticed a bit too late and as he tried to stop his momentum by leaning by the foot of the creature reached him.
*Thoom* As the leg crashed down a small shockwave spread out to those around the beast. Those who had joined in to defeat the beast mostly laid on the ground from the shockwave.
His stomach down was flattened, but he still lived though clearly in shock of the situation. He already dropped his weapon to the side and vainly tried to push the leg off himself.
After a few more seconds of chewing it finally decided to finish up. It tossed it's head up while opening it's mouth. The body it was chewing flew in the air for a moment before landing back into the creature's mouth. With a final few chomps and it gulped down the body.
It tilted it's head towards the crushed man still desperately trying to escape.
*Sniff* *Sniff*
The massive nostrils of the creature moved, widening and tightening quickly.
*Rrreeeeiiggghhh*
Sniffing the body, the creature became invigorated. From it's initial sluggish state it proceeded to become pumped up like they just took some cocaine.
It turned it's body to look at one of the closest people who were pushed away and ran towards him. Although the man reacted by trying to dodge the boar, he still got hit as the ramming he dodged became a headbutt.
The man flew away towards a tree and loud audible crack was heard before he touched the ground. If that wasn't terrible enough from the same direction where the man flew another two similar silhouettes began to appear with light thudding coming along side it.
Without even needing to see what they really were I started running towards where Chen Huang and Qiao An were. They had already whittled down the creatures health to the point where it could barely fight back without exhausting itself. It was on the verge of death and they would probably kill it before it before I made it over.
'God damn it! How many things have I ran away from already? I know I can't fight that though! It basically insta-killed that man and he probably had a higher cultivation base than I am.
After all my verifications to even pass the inner disciple test was at the very bare minimum. That might have not mattered for an actual protagonist, but for me I was lucky I even passed selection.
When am I going to be able to do what Chen Huang is doing? Maybe I should find out what kind of protagonist he is first. Is he based off of luck? Hard work? or maybe there's even a remnant spirit of some master guiding him from the shadows.
Maybe I should just look for opportunities for some treasures instead of just sitting down to cultivate like I've been doing. But if I don't have a strong cultivation foundation how am I going to contend to with some people? Shit! If I keep doing this I'm basically bound to be a mob character then!'
While lost in my thoughts an extra pair of footsteps appeared by my side.
"Ip Cheng are you ok? You didn't even wait to see what those large shadows were. It was kinda obvious what they were though."
Turning to her I responded, "Ah, Yao Ya! I'm sorry I left you behind. It's just-"
"AHHHhhhh! R-Run! This way to Qiao An." The distant screams of disciples interrupt our conversation. We already ran a distance away before those creatures began their slaughter.
Continuing with my sentence from earlier, "It's just that I'm too weak. Right now I can't really do too much and I need to get better."
She gave me a slight smile before speaking, "Hehe, how many times have you said that already? Those words, though they might not be the exact ones their meanings are all the same. Is there really a need to rush this? Why don't you just enjoy what we have now? We can always find some fortunes and things to help after all."
Hearing her say that had me stunned, especially the first part. After all I could still remember when I said words similar those before, yet it seems like I had forgotten. If I really mean that than something has to change. About the rest though, our world's future is at stake. Although I'm not a hero who will bring our world out of a disaster I could still help it go on.
Ahead a loud thud was heard as the boar that Chen Huang and Qiao An were fighting finally fell over. They stood around it proud of their work, but that wouldn't last for long.
