'It's finally time, I'm so excited, I've read so many fictional novels on this subject. I wonder how its going to start? They said Fang City was northeast and was little far perhaps around 2 days of travel.'
I was fairly confused when they pointed toward what should of been directly north before realizing that our world probably isn't at the same angle or alignment as before.
Gathering the remaining five other members that decided to stay with my proposal and the remaining equipment we had for our long journey, we went towards the northern gate of the town to begin.
Hopefully when the other group reconnects with our world they will hand over the note I gave them about our departure to go farther inland of this "new" world.
Passing the northern gate what lies before us was just some hilly plains, but there was a dirt path to follow. Walking along the only way the other three's names are slowly known: Hu Daquan is the man who was arguing with Qiu Tu earlier yesterday, Liang Jia the other man, and Rao Nuan the only woman in the group of three I've yet to know.
The three of them were also in the military so I guess Yao Ya and I are the only people without combat training in the group. The Qiu Tu and Hu Daquan were Private first class riflemen, Liang Jia was a demolition specialist, and Rao Nuan was a combat medic and still had a small amount of medical equipment.
After checking our supplies we still have about 5 days of provisions. Even with the majority of it going to the group going back, this was quite an amount for us. The three new people still had their lightweight Kevlar vests and combat knifes strapped to their bodies underneath their robes.
This was just their equipment they still had with them. And since it would surely come in handy in this world they wore it discreetly.
Hu Daquan and Rao Nuan were the only two of the three who still had their firearms though. It being the same 9mm pistol that Qiu Tu had. Hu Daquan only had half a mag left and no spares since he had taken it from a dead driver while Rao Nuan was a medic so she had it as standard issue with two spare mags like Qiu Tu and hadn't even fired it yet.
As Liang Jia was defenseless I decided to give him the shotgun and shells, I still had a pistol anyways and he could probably use it better then me too. After all these people were in the military, being trained by someone was probably better then being self-taught.
"Thank you, I'll make good use this, but do you have a weapon to protect yourself now?" He asked inspecting his new weapon while also showing some concern for me.
"Don't worry I'll be fine." Flashing him the .22 pistol I had hidden away under my robe.
Walking along the path we eventually had to go through another forest. Remembering what had happened not even 3 days ago everyone was vigilant and stayed in a group incase another beast attacks.
…
Slowly moving through the lush forest we've spotted a fallen tree that blocks our path. It felt obvious from the way it seemed so out of line with the rest of the path.
"Hey, I've seen this one before!" Telling the others of my thoughts
"What do you mean you've seen this?! It's brand new!" Qiu Tu said
"I bet there are bandits are gon-" Before I could finish my sentence I was interrupted.
"They know already, attack!!" A shout interrupts her as numerous men from either side of the forest come and try to attack in melee range while some others shoot arrows.
Having not prepared for the threat our group was surprised but quickly recovered and scattered for cover.
'That's some quick reaction time for them! It only makes sense though as they themselves might of been in ambushes. But even Yao Ya was extremely quick to react! I expected the soldiers to, but Yao Ya even seemed faster then them somehow.'
Diving towards a nice log to take cover behind the fight starts as arrows soar through the air towards. Not long after the sounds of gunshots ring throughout the forest.
*BANG**BANG**BANG**BANG*
Immediately taking out my gun from within my robe, I peek my head over to see a man running towards my hiding spot. I raised my gun and centered the sights on his chest. Hesitating a bit to pull the trigger on the man running straight for me.
'Holy Shit I have to kill a man this early on? I thought I would at least become a cultivator first before this occurred.' Tightening my grip I pull back the trigger as soon as I steady my aim.
*BANG**BANG*
Two spent bullet casings eject from the side of my gun. The man who was rushing at me with a axe stumbled forwards a few more steps before faceplanting on the ground 1.5 meters ahead of me. 'Did I kill him? Welp better make sure.' Aiming at his head I pull the trigger sending another one straight through his skull.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE WEAPONS!! ARE YOU USING SOME KIND OF NEW MAGIC TOOL?! THAT'S CHEATING GODDAMN IT!"
Looking up at the situation it seems they're doing pretty well taking out the melee attackers, but the archers are focusing and pinning them down. Aiming at the closest archer to me I steady my breath once again to begin pulling the trigger.
*BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG*CLICK*
Hearing the click I duck back down pulling out my empty mag to put it back inside my robe while reaching for another. Slamming the new mag back in and pulling the slide back I chamber in a new round. Standing up once again it seems the archer I was shooting at was hit as he was writhing in pain on the ground.
The one next to him seemed to notice me and had drew back his bowstring waiting for my head, before I could even duck out of the way of his shot *BANG*. He was shot through the head, small parts of his brain was spattered across the guy behind him. Ducking to look around for my savior I spot the medic, Rao Nuan smiling at me as her gun barrel still emits a small plume of smoke.
After those two archers died the pressure was loosened enough where the others could start taking more shots. The battle ended soon after and didn't even last 5 minutes while the melee units were killed pretty quickly.
All together there were 17 of them 7 of them were archers, the rest were carrying some kind of melee weapon.
"Alright, how are we doing? Is anyone injured? How is our ammunition?" I asked everyone their current situation.
"I'm fine, only have around 9 shells left though. Thanks for the gun without it I would of just sat there during the whole fight." Liang Jia replied counting his shells
"I also good, I still have a spare mag plus around 11 bullets in here." Qiu Tu responds taking out the mag in the gun to showing us
"I'm alright, but I used all my bullets." Hu Daquan said placing it inside his robe
"I'm okay, I have around 2 mags." Rao Nuan says
"I didn't even get touched, but the gun you gave me ran out of ammo." Yao Ya said proudly at the start yet seemed a little dejected and ashamed towards the end.
"Alright well we probably shouldn't use or even reveal these weapons when we get over to the city. We should take some of their weapons, it'll make us look more like we belong there and get rid of any unwanted attention that our guns might induce." I said pointing to the pile of bodies.
Everyone took a bow around 7 arrows and a melee weapon from the corpses.
Liang Jia took a spear, Hu Daquan took an axe, and the rest of us took swords.
After that we hopped across the tree they had placed to block us off and walked around 10 meters away before setting up camp in the woods to get away from the corpses.
We spent a some time resting there to regain some stamina from our walk as well as from that little battle of ours. We built a little fire and ate a few things to gain that energy before getting back onto the path.
From there we continued onward walking along the path until we reached a mildly large hill. From atop that hill we saw the Fang City in the distance. The city seemed dazzling from afar as it's light sources gave the city a soft glow.
It would still take around an hour to get there, but our goal was within our sight. By the time we arrived there it should be 12AM and we should have plenty of time to explore the city. We still had those handheld radios so we could keep in contact within, but we could only use it in isolated places.
The group was told about not starting or interacting in unnecessary conflicts to prevent unwanted attention before we could join the sect and learn how to defend ourselves without guns. This world isn't based off of ranged combat yet after all. The guns were for emergency use only, like if you couldn't escape a fight by running.
As we got closer to the city my excitement grew over becoming a cultivator.
