Chapter Five: I actually published a book

For the past week I have been texting Luke constantly. We talk about the books we are writing and about ourselves. It's been nice having someone to text with other than my Mom. I even texted my Mom about Luke. Of course Angel and Sage have way to excited about me talking with Luke.

Today is Saturday which means it's time for my date with Luke. I mean, I think it's a date. I will call it a date till I learn otherwise.

Angel is curling my long hair while Sage is doing my makeup. I decided to wear blue shorts, a pink v-neck shirt, and flip flops. Even though it's August, it's still way too hot so I need to dress as cool as possible.

"Done! You look beautiful." Sage smiles as she puts away the makeup.

"Your hair is done as well." Angel grins as she turns off the curling iron.

"Do you think this is a date?" I ask them.

"Yes." They agree in union.

"Ring!" Goes the doorbell. Sage and Angel run to answer it.

"Hello! I'm Sage, Nicky's roommate and best friend." Sage beams while holding out her hand.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Luke." He shakes her hand.

"I'm Angel. Nicky's other best friend." Angel smirks.

"Nice to meet you as well."

"I'm ready. Let's go." I grab my purse and grab Luke's arm to pull him away from Sage and Angel because if I don't get him out of here, they will start with tons of questions.

"Sorry about them." I add as we get into Luke's car.

"No problem, they seem really great." He beams at me and starts the car.

We drive to the closest book store, park the car, and go inside.

"I love a good bookstore." I smile as we walk around.

"Me too. I would love to publish a novel and have it put in bookstores." Luke signs.

"I have actually published a book."

"Really?" Luke asks while raising his eyebrows.

"I published a Christian Devotional book when I was a freshman in college. I worked on that book for six years. It's called: 'Jesus Saves-Daily Devotions.' I haven't brought it up before I didn't know what your religion was or make you feel like you have to buy it." I explain.

"Actually, I am a Christian and I would be honored to buy your book." Luke declares and I blush.

"Is your book in this bookstore?" Luke asks and I nod my head yes.

"Come on Nicky, let's go find it." Luke grabs my hand and we race off to find my book.

Once we get to the section of the bookstore where my book is, Luke is still holding my hand. He hasn't let go of my hand and I don't want him to.

I mean, this is our first date. He may not even like me like that. He doesn't even know that I have an eating disorder. I mean, we just met. He might just leave once I tell him about my eating disorder. No one wants to be with the broken girl. I can't even eat in public with him and I can't explain to him why.

"Nicky." Luke announces and I stop my train of thought and look at him.

"Sorry can you repeat that?"

"Will you sign my book?" He holds out the book I wrote and hands me a pen.

"I would be honored." I reply.

Luke buys my book and a Stephan King book. I buy Joyce Meyer's new book and another one of Joyce's older books that I haven't read yet. I also get an adult fiction book by an author that I haven't read yet. I know I am twenty-one but I just started reading adult fiction books. I LOVED so many young adult books and authors like John Green, Sarah Dessen, Maire Lu, and many more. So I am new to reading adult fiction books but the one I got looks amazing.

"I had a wonderful time." I smile at him as he walks me to my apartment.

"I did too. I can't wait to read your book." He smiles back.

"I hope you enjoy it."

"I will. I want to see you again. Would you like that?" He asks.

"I would love that." I answer.

Luke leans down to me (because he is much taller than me), he wraps his arms around me, and kisses me on the lips. I kiss him back.

Once we are done kissing, he waves goodbye, and I enter my apartment.

I feel the happiest I have felt in years. That was the best day I have had in years. That was the first day that I enjoyed life and didn't talk about my eating disorder. I had fun and felt normal. Luke brings out the best in me, and I can't wait to see him again.
