These two also fought a sword fight. You'd have thought that her grandfather was able to keep up
with the king since he was still alive. But the princess knew that King Ulric was no doubt superior to him. If he had wanted to kill him, he could have done it any time. Instead, he played with him like a cat with a mouse.
"Baridi! Stay back, no matter what happens now," she ordered the valet and walked towards the two
fighting men. "Your Majesty!" She shouted in a firm voice after getting close enough to them. She saw the king's body freeze and his gaze wandered to her. His sword pressed relentlessly against her
grandfather's. He also looked over at her in astonishment.
King Ulric looked at Lyana head to toe. He looked insecure. She guessed it had to be Feronias
dress. Just as she was about to speak to him, she heard a loud clang. Amazed, she looked at her
grandfather, who had dropped his sword and sank on his knees.
She immediately panicked. "Grandfather?! Is everything okay?"
But he didn't answer her question at all. "Why are you wearing this? Why are you wearing this wedding dress?"
She looked back at the king perplexed, but it looked like it was true. "How do you know that this is a wedding dress?" She asked the old King of the Sun, urgently.
"This pure white, this glitter as if it was covered with ice crystals ... only children of nature are allowed to marry in this kind of dress. Feronia told me about it on the day of our engagement.
"Immediately he had the edge of King Ulrics sword on his neck. "Don't you dare say her name again. You have no right to do that."
"Ulric!" Lyana shouted, this time slightly startled. She was aware that she was addressing him without his title, but that was precisely why she did not miss her aim. "I know you are angry. But my grandfather loved your sister as much as you did. Just as much as I love you."
"Sister?" Her grandfather looked at the Ice King with wide eyes. "But ... but ... how is that possible?"
"Your love means nothing. It doesn't matter whether you are involved in a political engagement or not. And he? He left her! My sister loved him so much that she risked everything for him, but he just betrayed her. She was still half a child!" He roared in a painful voice. The expression in his eyes didn't let Lyana go. She could literally feel his pain.
"It's not fair that he can live and be happy while my sister was forced to take her own life." The look
in his eyes changed again and he raised his sword. "It is only fair if I also end his life."
Without another word of explanation, Lyana began to sing. She sang the song from her dream. The same song that she sang on her first day in the dungeon.
About the young lovers who couldn't stay together.
"What's the nonsense?" Interrupted King Ulric. But she kept on singing the verse relentlessly. When she finished, she finally explained it to him. "It's an old folk song. Well, at least that's what I always believed since you told me this. Isn't that right, Grandfather?" The old man had tears in his eyes.
"King Ulric is right. It's all my fault. If only I hadn't been so foolish back then."
The king lowered his sword. "What are you talking about?" He wanted to know from Lyana. He was still in a rage, but at least he wasn't acting rashly.
"Won't you tell him, grandfather?" As difficult as it was for the former Sun King, she couldn't take this burden off him.
So he started telling his story. "We were so in love back then. I had never seen a more beautiful being than my sweet Feronia. I firmly believed that she was an angel sent to me. Only a little later did I find out how special her existence really was. We met many times in the ice forest until we finally got engaged. I still remember that day very well. Never in my life have I been so happy again. But a few days before we were due to meet again, I received a letter. Feronia explained to me that she was wrong. She would have met someone she loved more and that she wanted and had to be with him, since there was no other way being a child of nature. She had told me that she could only love once, but I thought that I was that person to her. Even though I knew it was wrong, I
wanted to change her mind. I wrote to her and asked her to see me before we actually promised to meet. But when I got there, there was no trace of her. Just a note that said that she was sorry and that I should forget about her as soon as possible."
