The drive to the hospital was so silent that Du drifted off to sleep on different occasions. She would wake up and find out that they were still in the car, and it would vex her afresh...talk more of the pain in her leg.
The car swerved and it seemed that they had gotten to the hospital at last.
[Finally], Du (Karina), thought.
Xue had been sitting at the back with Du in her arms. Her gaze had been fixed on the injury and a hum could be heard from her.
She didn't seem okay, but Ren was oblivious of that.
Xue was in a loop in her mind about what must have happened to her daughter. She felt like she had failed as a mother.
When the car stopped and she looked outside to see that they had arrived at the hospital, Xue opened the door to the side that she was sitting on and attempted to step out with Du in her arms.
Ren had gotten out and with long strides, had reached Xue's side of the car. "I will carry Du. You can stay in the car if you want", he said in a very unfriendly tone.
