She placed both her hands on her belly as tears slid down from her eyes. She couldn't understand why she was crying. It was probably due to happiness and relief.
Even though she didn't know if Jin Liwei will be pleased to hear the news, she was happy nonetheless. Wondering what she should do, she got her phone and called her mother.
"Mom," she called when she picked up. "FeiFei, are you crying? Is everything okay?" she asked. "Yes, I think they are tears of joy," she said. "Really? Tell me what happened." "I'm pregnant," she said. "You're what?" Li Mei couldn't believe it. "Yes mother." "That is great. Uh, so should I suppose that it's Jianyu's?" she said. "No mother. Nothing has ever happened between us," she replied.
"Is it for Jin Liwei then?" she asked. "Y-yes," she answered.
"How? When did you two..?" "Uh..it happened about three weeks ago or a month, I don't clearly remember," she confessed. "Uh, does Jianyu know about it? You realize this changes everything, don't you?" "Yes it does." "What about the father? Have you informed him yet?"
"Not yet." "So then, what are you doing next?" asked Li Mei. "I'm cancelling the marriage of course and I'm going to tell Jin Liwei." "I thought you should do the same but Jianyu is going to be heartbroken. Does he know about that encounter you just told me?" she asked. "Yes, he found out." She heard her groan from the other side and said," That makes it easier. Do you want me to tell him?" "No, I will do it," she said before adding," Mom, someone is knocking on the door. I think it's him."
Hanging up, she held her belly protectively as she walked to open the door.
Walking inside, Jianyu asked," How was your day at work?" "Not bad," she replied. "That's great. I just got my clothes in which I'm going to register our marriage. Did you get yours already?" "Not yet," she replied. "It's fine, we still have some days. So then, when are we going to Beijing? It would be better if- " "Jianyu," she interrupted him. "Yes?" he asked. "I have something very important to tell you." He looked at her without saying anything. A while later he asked," Do you want to cancel the marriage?"
She swallowed and said," No. It's more than that." "Tell me then. I can bare anything else but not that," he said. "The truth is that.. I'm pregnant," she revealed.
He took a while to say," I guess it's from the other night?" "Yes." Passing fingers through his thick hair, he walked passed her and asked," Does this change everything?" "Yes," she replied and with that, he walked out of her house.
Going back to her bedroom, she stood in front of the mirror and looked at her belly that was still flat as if nothing was inside. She took a mental note of going to the hospital the following day to clear any doubts.
Laying on the bed, she wondered on how best she was going to break the news to Jin Liwei.
Should she tell him over the phone or ask him to come over? She decided to go with the latter. She concluded that she was to call him tomorrow since she was still overwhelmed with the thought of carrying his child. Getting her phone, she called Liling to deliver the news but she didn't pick up. She might be sleeping, she thought.
Laying back on the bed, she closed her eyes as her hands subconsciously massaged her tummy.
Li Fei was woken up by the ringing of her phone and she sat up slightly frustrated. Stretching her hand to get the phone, she saw that it was Liling calling and she answered.
"Yes," she said in a sleepy voice. "FeiFei," she heard Liling call her in a worried tone.
"Yes?" she replied. "Something bad happened to Jin Liwei," she stated and the little sleep she had vanished in a second. "What happened to Jin Liwei?!!" she asked sitting up.
"I cannot give you details right now. Take the first trip you can to Shanghai. It's serious," she stated. "Liling, tell me what's wrong?! You're scaring me." "Call me the moment you land in Shanghai," she said before hanging up.
Li Fei felt her hands trembling as she called Jin Liwei's phone which was switched off.
Calling Jing Yue multiple times, he wasn't answering and the same applied to Yin Chen. Calling Liling again, she refused to answer. Panic filled her. What could have happened to Jin Liwei?!
She got off the bed immediately and went to the bathroom.
Coming out, she got dressed in any clothes she could find and looked outside the window to see that it was coming to dusk.
'Calm down. He is okay. He must be fine,' she told herself as she got her phone and picked her travel bag. Locking the door hurriedly from outside, she passed by Jianyu's unit and she concluded that she will just call him.
In two and a half hours, she had landed in Shanghai and the moment she came off the plane, she called Liling who didn't answer at the first call. Calling her again, she finally picked up," I'm in Shanghai right now. Where are you? Where is he?!!"
"Come to Tianshi international Hospital," she spoke. "What?! What are you doing at the hospital?!"
"Just come FeiFei," she said. "Tell me, is Jin Liwei okay?" she asked desperately. "I'm waiting for you," she replied before hanging up.
Hospital? What was she doing in the hospital?
She immediately got a cab and asked the driver to drop her at the hospital.
While on the way, she just prayed he was okay, or else, she didn't know if she would be able to take it. Reaching the hospital, she called Liling and informed her that she had arrived. Not long after, she caught sight of her coming and she didn't wait before running to catch up to her.
"Where's Jin Liwei?!" was all she asked but instead, Liling hugged her.
She would have been happy if it were a normal day but the hug was more like consoling.
She immediately pulled away and asked," Liling, where's Jin Liwei?!"
