Li Fei was helplessly pacing back and forth in the bedroom. She had waited for Jin Liwei for the whole day but he hadn't come back yet it was already evening. She had tried to call him several times but he wasn't picking up and so was his assistant. She was starting to get worried. Could something bad might have happened to him?
In the end, she decided to call Jing Yue. It rang for a few times before he picked up. "Li Fei," he answered. "Jing Yue, good evening," she greeted. "Good evening. You sound upset. Is everything alright?" he asked. "I really don't know. Have you seen Jin Liwei today?" she asked.
"No. I thought he is supposed to be home it being a weekend. Did you two have a fight?" he asked.
"Not at all. He left in the morning saying that he was coming back shortly but he hasn't arrived yet he isn't answering his phone. I thought he was with you, perhaps," she said. "Not at all. I haven't heard from him today but it's still early. I'm sure he will come back," he said. "Okay. Please call me incase you hear from him," she said before hanging up. She had this unsettling feeling in her chest as though something was not right.
...
Looking outside through the window of the living room, she sighed for the umpteenth time. It was past ten in the night yet Jin Liwei was nowhere to be seen. To make matters worse, it was raining outside heavily and there was a storm. "You should calm down. I believe the young master is fine," said Yin Chen who had been waiting with her.
"I honestly doubt it. Jin Liwei has never refused to pick my calls and right now, it's switched off," she said, her anxious eyes not leaving the window.
"Maybe he was on his way here and he got caught up by the rain and he decided to spend the night at the penthouse," she said. "You think so?" she asked turning to look at her. "Yes," replied Yin Chen.
She walked to take a seat on the couch and got her phone to call Jing Yue again.
"He isn't back yet?" he asked the moment he picked up. "No," she replied anxiously. "Calm down. Everything will be okay. I'm sure he's fine." "Have you heard from him?" she asked. "No. He wasn't answering neither his assistant," he said.
"What if he's in danger?" she asked. "He's fine I'm sure. I think he was caught up somewhere by the rain. Try catching some sleep," he said and she hang up.
She called his number again but it was switched off. She then went to the bedroom and got a shawl with a pillow before coming back to lay down on the couch in the living room. "You're going to sleep here?" asked Yin Chen. "En. I'm going to wait for him here," she replied and the old woman knew that she couldn't say anything to change her mind. "Okay. I will be resting in my room. Please let me know if you need anything or if he comes back," she said before leaving.
Li Fei remained staring at the ceiling of the living room. 'Please God, let him be okay,' she said before taking a deep breath.
She could hear that the rain was increasing with time and she sighed. If it weren't for the rain, she would have been outside looking for him.
A long while later, she felt her eyes turn heavy and they darted to look at the clock and saw that it was past midnight.
The next time Li Fei opened her eyes, it was coming to seven in the morning and she sat up immediately. She scolded herself for sleeping under such circumstances. She searched for her phone and when she got it, she called him again, hoping that his phone might be on but she got disappointed.
She got up and rushed to open the window, and saw that it was drizzling outside.
Leaving the window, she walked towards their bedroom while calling Jing Yue.
"He's not home still?" he asked. "Not yet. I'm sure that something bad happened to him. I'm going to the police to file a missing report," she said opening the door.
"They won't help you. You can't file a missing report before forty eight hours have passed Li Fei." "You mean that I should just sit here and wait without knowing which state he's in?" she asked. He took a deep breath before saying," Let's do this. I know of a place. I don't know if he's there but I'm heading there right now. I'm going to call you the moment I reach there." "Wait for me! I will go with you," she said looking for her purse.
"I think it will be wastage of time which we clearly don't have. I'm already seated in the car and the place is at least an hour drive," he said.
"Okay, I understand. Please let me know if you find him," she said. "Of course. I will inform you," he told her.
After hanging up, Jing Yue picked his coat and keys from the table. He walked to his wife's side and pecked her forehead before walking out of the bedroom.
Going to the car, he drove out of his residence and it was then he caught sight of a familiar car coming in the same direction and he immediately packed.
He opened the door and came out to approach Jin Liwei's car which had also pulled over. The door was opened and Jin Liwei came out. Jing Yue looked at him and he realized that it was the worst state he had ever seen him. His hair was disorganized and he was sure that he was from drinking. Frowning at his appearance, he asked," Hey, what happened to you? Where were you?"
He didn't reply and only passed his hands through his already disorganized hair frustratedly and he sighed.
"Why ain't you saying anything? Li Fei has been calling me all night asking about your whereabouts. You weren't picking calls and after you switched it off. What happened?"
After a long while, Jin Liwei replied, "Jing Yue, I've lost everything. Absolutely everything."
Frowning deeper, he asked," What do you mean by that?" Just that moment, Jing Yue's phone rang and he looked to see that it was Li Fei. "She's calling again. She's been so worried about you. Let her know that you're alright," he said stretching his hand to him so that he could get the phone.
He glanced at it and said," Don't answer it."
