Walking away from there, he found the doctor and asked to help him see Li Fei. He rejected at first but later, he accepted seeing his deep concern.
He headed to the room and caught sight of her laying unconsciously on the hospital bed. Walking to where she was, he saw that she had a nasal cannula and was attached to an intravenous drip. Her lips were dry and her face was pale. He couldn't wait to get hold of whoever was responsible for this.
He later sat besides her and wondered how she was going to take the news of losing a baby because to him, it had left him devastated. He doubted she knew about the pregnancy or else she would have told him. He thought that it was best if she didn't find out at least before she was completely fine.
He reached for her hand which felt cold to the touch and he squeezed it before saying," I will find them and they will pay dearly for harming you and killing our baby. I promise." He raised her hand and gave a lingering kiss on her knuckles when he heard," You shouldn't be here." Turning his eyes, he saw Jiang standing on the doorway. "How is your mother doing?" he asked slowly lowering her hand.
"She just fainted. She will be fine. You should leave right now. It wouldn't be good if she sees you again," he said. He looked back at the sleeping Li Fei, hesitant on leaving her but he had to. He had already done enough damage.
He dipped his head and gave a kiss on her forehead then stood up to say," Please tell me the moment she wakes up." "I will inform you but don't come back."
Nodding his head, he said,"And another thing, I think you shouldn't break the news to her about the miscarriage yet. At least not until she is fine," he said before walking to the door and before he could leave, he turned to ask," Do you have any idea who could have done this to her? Who serves her food?"
"We eat altogether. I doubt it was done in the food," said Jiang. "Anything else she ate?" he asked.
"I don't know. I will have to find out later," he said and as Jin Liwei was taking steps outside, he said," Wait! I remember seeing a plate of cookies in her room. I'm not sure but I think it's the first thing to check."
Jin Liwei nodded and gave Li Fei one last glance before leaving.
Reaching his car, he leaned his head over the seat and closed his eyes. The news of the baby were truly unexpected. Had he known earlier, he would have taken her away from this place. Checking the time, he realized it was four in the morning and he called Jing Yue. It was soon ending when he answered," What is it? Why are you calling me in the middle of the night?" His voice sounded sleepy. "It's four in the morning. I'm devastated Jing Yue," he said.
"What happened?" "Li Fei was poisoned," he stated. "Li Fei was what?!" he exclaimed and woke up Liling who was fast asleep.
"Darling, it's Li Fei! She was poisoned!" he mentioned and she immediately sat up.
"What?! How? When? Let me talk to her," she said wanting to grab the phone. "Wait, this is Jin Liwei speaking," he told her.
Jin Liwei then continued to explain, "Luckily, she is fine but can you believe that she was pregnant? And she lost the baby," he said much to his surprise. "What?! She was pregnant?!" he couldn't believe it. "Yes but it's no more. And to make things worse, I messed up more. Her mother found out about us in the worst way."
After talking to him, Liling who was impatient asked," Tell me everything that happened. She is pregnant?!" Telling her everything, she kicked the covers and left the bed. "I'm going to Beijing right now! I have to be there for her. It's so hard losing a baby! Oh my God," she exclaimed wrapping herself with a towel to go to the bathroom.
"I'm coming too," he said before getting up from the bed and made way to the bathroom. He knew that Jin Liwei wasn't fine either, depending on the conversation they just had.
Half an hour later, Li Mei slowly gained consciousness and Li Jiang came to where she was. By this moment, Jianyu was in Li Fei's room.
When she opened her eyes, her vision was blurry at first until it stabilized. Li Jiang helped her sit on the bed and he quickly fetched her a glass of water. "Mother, how are you feeling?" he asked getting the glass from her after she had drank half way of the water.
She took a while to say," Tell me it was a bad dream. Tell me I didn't hear that man saying he was the baby's father."
He looked at her for so long before saying," As much as I hate to say, it's true. He's the one."
Her eyes clouded with tears and she said," How can Li Fei do this to us? No, now I get it! That man must have forced her! That man is capable of everything! He threatened her and took advantage of her!" He looked at her speechless. Did she have any idea how her daughter was head over heels in love with the man? "Mother, please listen to me. I think it's best if we don't talk about those things with Li Fei. Not that man or the miscarriage at least not until she gets better. She was poisoned with the intention of being killed. We nearly lost her. We have to look for whoever did it and also be there for her. The rest can come later, what do you think?" Thinking about it, she said, "Yes you're right. Take me to her." "Can you walk?" he asked. "Yes. I'm alright," she said.
To her, her daughter was forced and threatened by that man and internally, she was glad that she had lost the baby. She was going to ask her why she let herself be harassed by that man.
It was nearly coming to seven in the morning when the two reached Beijing and Jing Yue called Jin Liwei asking for the address. He asked for the hospital's address on Liling's behalf and she took a cab.
Reaching the house, Jing Yue found Jin Liwei sitting on the couch with a downcast look.
"How are you?" he asked standing in front of him. "Not good. Thanks for coming," he said. "I had to," he replied taking a seat next to him.
