An alarm went off somewhere in the house I jumped out of bed. After it was turned off I sat back down on the bed. Then there was a knock on the door. I opened it to see Anne standing there with a sleepy but sheepish grin on her face. "I'm sorry dear did our alarm scare you? I forgot it was so loud."
I smiled at her and said," The alarm is better than the screaming that I usually hear. I don't have a clock so I'm glad yours woke me up. How long before we leave?"
"After breakfast dear, we will leave in half an hour." She smiled at me then went back to her room to get dressed.
Once she left I went in and took a quick shower then got dressed in the uniform Elizabeth gave me last night. Finally I went downstairs.
When I walked into the kitchen both women looked up and smiled at me.
"Sorry dear we forgot the alarm was so loud. Anne reminded me late last night but I fell asleep while reading."
"It's okay, like I told Anne I don't have an alarm so it worked out just fine. But my question is since we don't work tomorrow do we get to sleep in?"
Everyone starts laughing and Elizabeth shakes her head saying," Yes we get to sleep in. But we should get to the mall as early as possible before the town kids get there. Some of them get rowdy."
"I'm all for getting in and out before anything happens. We can go as soon as the mall opens if that's best."
"It's settled then we leave at 8:30 tomorrow since the mall opens at nine."
After we finalized our plans for tomorrow we ate breakfast, cleaned up and then went to the bakery.
For the first hour Anne and Elizabeth showed me how to make several different kinds of donuts, croissants, and muffins. It was great. not only did I have fun, but I learned so many new things.
When we opened at six the people who needed the big orders came and picked them up. Then we started in on the little orders. I really loved all of it. At seven the people started showing up. I was surprised by how popular we are. I mean it's a small town and we have had at least a dozen people in the first five minutes. As the morning crowds came through Anne and Elizabeth introduced me to their friends. I was both surprised and amazed when they called me their granddaughter. No one argued they just accepted their word as gospel. Everyone would as me how I was, how I liked the town, what I thought about working at the bakery and if I was going to go to school. I answered all questions as honestly as I could then the people left.
Shortly after that we got to sit and have lunch. After lunch we made the next batch of donuts. I only made two mistakes this time. I was very proud of myself and so we're my grandmother's. They both gave me several hugs and kept telling me how great I am doing. Then we got in our places for the after school crowds.
Sure enough we were just as busy today as we were yesterday. Some of the kids even got extra because we are closed all weekend. Everything was going fine until they came in. Barbie was with them once again but it was only her. She was still rude until the brother with the ocean blue eyes told her to shut up. He ordered the donuts for their party and when I asked for his name for the ticket Barbie started laughing at me. I'm not sure what I did that was so funny but the guy told her to shut up again then introduced himself as Sam and his brother as Dean. I told him my name was Patricia then gave him the change. When our hands touched I felt little shockwaves where our fingers touched. It didn't hurt but it was strange. I think it surprised Sam as well because his eyes snapped to my face. Then Barbie started complaining and what ever happened was forgotten. I went back to work and things calmed down. I know it sounds stalkerish but I couldn't help but kept an eye on the twins. Something about them fascinates me. Once the line dies down Anne comes out to check on me. Dean comes up to the counter and orders a mixed dozen and a chocolate dozen to go. When he hands me the money that strange tingling feeling happened again. His eyes snaps up to Anne's face. Then it's as if he lets it go. She gets his donuts and I give him his change. Then the twins and Barbie leave.
I go about doing my closing duties while Anne and Elizabeth do theirs. Fifteen minutes later we walk out the door on our way home.
Once we got home everyone went to clean up and change. Then we made dinner. Everyone was quiet, I know I was tired so I didn't think anything of the silence.
"Anne what do we do. You said Dean said she was his mate. But Sam told me she was his mate. You know the boys are not very gentle and what would they say about her past?"
"I don't know Elizabeth but we will have to talk to them. Maybe we should go see Johnathan. I have never heard of this he is older maybe he has. But all three need to know she has no clue she is a wolf."
"Agreed, look at the poor girl she's asleep in her soup."
"Get her upstairs and I will lock up."
