The young man's expression was a mix of fear, pity, and shock. Mostly shock.
As much as Aether wanted to reassure him that such an order from Lord Yotsura was highly unlikely, he simply couldn't bring himself to speak up.
"So…" Fen finally muttered. "You'd kill us if he ordered you to."
Aether nodded. "I would have to. I would hate it, and I'd never forgive myself, or him, but…" He shrugged. "Well, I guess that wouldn't matter to you." He pressed his palm against his forehead. "I shouldn't have told you all this," he admitted. "I just wanted you to know what it might mean to remain here."
Fen's blank expression remained unchanged. Hesitant, Aether continued. "I don't want to see your, or your sister's light to be snuffed out in these caverns."
Fen nodded. "I think I get it." He muttered. "But… How can you even live like this? Not knowing what you may have to do the next day?"
