Chapter 2 - 2. Professor Artemis

She was brown skinned, had red eyes, and long red hair which were tied up in a bun.

She wore a white full sleeved button down suit with golden buttons, a gold coloured metal shoulder pad was strapped on her right shoulder from which hung a long red cape, and she donned white pants. A sceptre lay across her lap, a few books beside her, and... she wore no footwear.

Huh.

"Your name?" She repeated.

I checked my left pocket. If this kid was a student, then sure his school provided him with an ID card, right?

My fingers grasped something rectangular, and as I pulled it out, I noticed that it too was made of copper. Upon it was a painting of my face, and below were strange letters that started becoming more familiar the more I looked at them. And right beneath it were strange symbols.

"Are you mute or just slow? Gosh, I hope you're not in my class."

"Victor...," I began as I finally understood the letters, "Victor Crowley". And just as I finished saying those two words it felt like I had always known this language.

"Good thing you aren't mute then, Victor, " she said in relief.

She seemed like she would be a very strict teacher, also seemed 30 yrs old, and I found her to be really gorgeous. Man, was I going to have a crush on a teacher like I was back in high school again?

"Professor Artemis," she held out her hand, and I shook it.

"Given that you keep looking out the carriage window as if everything's new, I'm guessing you're a first year?"

Not knowing how to reply, I handed her my ID.

"And... seems you never got a proper education as well. Yeah, you're a first year. This," she turned the ID towards me and pointed at the first symbol, "is 1. Meaning first year in this context. The second symbol here... ," she palmed her face, "Oh no."

"What is it, Professor?"

"You're in my class. Magical Formations. That circle with a star in it means 'Magical Formations'. And the third symbol is the emblem of the academy," saying so she handed me my ID back.

After that we sat in silence for a while. She picked up one of her books and began reading, and I activated my Scouter.

[ Victor Crowley.

Level 1 Spellcaster.

Spells: Shield. ]

And then I glanced up at my fellow passenger.

[ Level 51 Spellcaster. ]

"Alright!" She closed her book, "I can't help it. I can tell you have a lot of questions, and I won't be a good professor if I didn't help you out. Go on, you can ask."

"Um,... ah," I didn't know where to begin. I did have a lot of questions. In the end I settled on those that wouldn't make it completely obvious that I knew absolutely nothing about this world.

"What other classes apart from Magical Formations are there? And do I get to change my class if I want to?"

I didn't really want to change my class, but what if this was the toughest class in the academy. I had never been a big fan of studying.

She raised an eyebrow at me in disbelief.

Damn it. Wrong question!

"As for your first question, the other classes are Necromancy, Illusion, Healing, Elements, Summoning and Artificing. Their names are very self explanatory of what they are about, but it's likely you haven't heard of Artificing before, since it's commonly known by a different name. Magical Craftsmanship. It's about creating magical tools, devices, and the like.

And as for your second question," her brows furrowed in worry, "you should have known that even if you hadn't received any education. On their awakening, every Spellcaster is gifted a Spellbook by the gods. And it's the Spellbook you receive that determines what branch of magic you would be studying."

A Spellbook?

The thought had just formed in my head when suddenly my chest began feeling warm, and as I looked at myself a thick hardback book emerged from where I felt the warmth and it remained levitating infront of me.

What in the gods' name was this?

"Phew. Atleast you know how to summon it, otherwise I would have believed you to be a lost case."

I held the book and opened it. Only the first page had anything written, the rest of the book was empty.

"Shield formation," I muttered.

"Haa. Looking at your awed face, you're going to be a difficult student to teach," she covered her face with her palms.
