Chapter 10 - Friend or Foe

Their hand gripped tighter around his as they made their way outside smiling, the guy would be chatting away. Haru on the other hand, stayed quiet like a mouse looking down at the cracks and rocks which met their path as he bit the inside of his cheek.

He breathed silently even though this guy helped him he couldn't even look at him due to the awkwardness of the situation, his eyes sharpening when he heard Buck yelling at him.

The guy looked down at him gesturing towards the screaming shifter to come over with a smile. "Is this yours?" He'd chuckled as he let go of his hands rubbing the back of his neck in the process.

"Ah, yes thank you for bringing him I started to get worried at the thought he may have gotten lost again," he bowed his head staring at the runty creature with a look of confusion only to be responded to with a slight shrug.

"The pleasure is all mine, found him screaming his head off until a panic attack in the haunted house."

"Maybe you should sit out next time or bring a friend eh, 'd o n g s a e n g?" He'd laugh again as Haru averted his eyes focusing more on the ground, his cheeks tinted a small amount of pink while he walked to Buck picking up Kaito in an attempt to ignore this man's words.

"I wasn't screaming until your face showed up fuckbo-"

"Haru..." Buck would look back at him with a motherly gaze forcing him to shut up with a blank laugh. "You're Koren?" He turned back to the tall man compared to them both the guy looked far out of place.

"Yes sir I'm Changmin, I moved here about a month ago from the North my aunt sent me here for studies and I heard about this festival," he'd look down at him once more observing as he made faces towards the toddler.

"Ah, well welcome to Japan Chang hope you're having a great time here I'm actually from Russia so nice to see others joining in on the fun."

"Why don't you tag along for the show unless, of course, you have more important matters," his remarks made him jump up staring straight at Buck with annoyance as he signaled to stop talking making Kaito laugh.

"I'm free so I'll take you up on that offer." His face was hard to read though his tone said otherwise, waving for him to follow. Haru let out a sigh following behind the two, looking down at Kaito with a smile as she crawled up further onto his shoulder before dozing off.

They made their way down the street, passersby marching in crowds towards a massive archway loud cheering could be heard as a gust of wind nearly pushed the four over with a sudden burst.

Haru looked up to see a large stage where a massive black dragon landed, crimson black claws dug into the ground as its metallic wings folded revealing their bulk with shady sapphire blue eyes that glinted with the night.

Large twisted outward sharp horns and teeth pointed out, its tail wrapping around like a thorny whip towards its side. A gulp escaped him but awe was struck his eyes as he stumbled forward towards the beast.

"That would be Aramis a show off as always," a laugh snickered out as he patted the boys' backs breaking their trance.

"Welcome to the Dagary kingdom, one where we house one of the biggest dragons of the world and where the strong question the stronger."

"That's the Emperor!?" Haru turned back to Buck rambling on with a large shout. "Of course, I told you we were heading to a show didn't I? After all, I do not disappoint kid."

"He's massive," he continued blabbering off until he noticed him in the corner of his eye turning to look at Chang-min, noticing he had his head held high staring at the dragon with a blank expression. Not even seeming the least bit fazed by the large stance of the beast before him.

"Are you alright?" He'd tap him on the shoulder only to be met with a smile making him jump back slightly.

"I'm fine puppy just reminded me of something, thank you for caring for me." His voice sounding sickly sweet made Haru raise an eyebrow at the nickname before staring at him.

He had to admit for someone that looked like a fuckboy he was handsome even with a cliche rugged triangular scar running up from the side of his jawline the barrier of fluffed hair.

"Am I a better view than the show?" He'd look back down at him, Haru silently took his gaze back to the dragon coughing slightly at his actions. "Are you always this damn awkward with people you just met?"

Ching would turn to face him now, he had to assume he had an eyebrow furrowed which made his face scrunch with a smirk at his response of being caught.

"Want to get closer to the stage?" Haru would motion towards the crowd of people who stood in the way, yelling and pushing in an attempt to get closer and take pictures. "You mean that stage?"

"I know a way around I scoped out this area for days," he'd lay a handout. "That's not suspicious at all, why should I go with a random guy I barely know any info about. I'm not that much of a dumbass 'Mr. Duche.' " He folded his arms.

"Ok one ow, and two come on it will be fun, promise I wanna take a good look at that thing," he'd raised his attention back to Buck who'd be holding back Kaito from eating all of his popcorn then back at him.

"You got ten minutes if we're not back then I'll kick your ass deal?" He'd extend a hand, sure he wasn't the most threatening thing but he was fast enough to run if needed right?

Ching took this hand in an instant nearly dragging him along as he yelled a small woohoo with a dumb smile, he began to regret agreeing to it as he climbed the stone wall motioning him to follow.

"Just up here lucky for us it's not too far off from the stage," he'd once again lay down a hand which he reluctantly grabbed and was pulled up in a swift motion.

"So, you normally this weird?" Haru stared a hole in the back of his head, feeling this he put up both of his hands and laughed.

"Guilty as charged but whatever do you mean?" Ching placed his hands behind his head as he turned to face him walking backward like a child. "Yeah know, grabbing people out of nowhere and not letting go till they hit you?"

"No, are you always so timid and vexed?" He responded blankly, swiftly disappearing around the rooftop corner.

The moonlight shined brighter onto his skin as he followed behind. All of the comforting aromas of foods and other familiar scents were slowly whisked away with the fresh air that filled his nostrils making him stop to look up at the stars.

Haru turned to see Ching sitting on the building's edge bringing an unsettling peace to the atmosphere as he wiggled off his shoes to sit.

"I'm not a coward nor am I easily annoyed," he'd slap the back of his neck softly as he gazed down before scampering backward.

"What was that about not being a coward" he joked with a weak smile. "I didn't know it would be this high up!"

"I'll make sure you won't fall now come on we already missed half of it," Ching patted the cement next to him. Haru exhaled reluctantly crawling sheepishly into a sitting position only to be pulled closer by him.

"See it isn't so bad, wish we could've brought snacks though," he looked down for a moment adverting his eyes to the woman standing next to the dragon.

She'd raise a hand hushing down the crowd who waited in anticipation for their king to speak. "Thank you all for coming to our festival, I'm more than aware of the certain circumstances we face here today."

"I know you have all waited dearly towards change and as you're emperor I shall ensure that is seen in due time so please bear with me," the dragon took in a breath as he continued to sit and utter in that same low tone.

"We do however need to speak on the matter of humans first, I want to inform you all of you who converse with or with others of them that as a leader I see humans as capable as shifters."

A man from the crowd pushed his way toward the stage holding up the protest sign higher. "Are you aware that we are in fact not even an inch close to your kind Aramais!?"

"You're just saying all of this bullshit so we nor anyone else gets the wrong impression of you and raise, you're just a freak who thinks he's better than us because he's a dibshit dragon that's not a leadership that's installing fear!"

"I ensure you I care deeply about you all I will make sure everyone here is safe and can live their lives without worry. But in order to do that, we need trust and that is why I'm here today."

"I want people to know we have passed a new law ensuring may get jobs and other things. By the end of today, every single position of employment must have human workers as well as shifters!"

"As such we must establish order so let our clogs in our clock to turn and prosper. We are making change slowly but surely I can promise that."

Ching turned to notice Haru putting his shoes back on. "Leaving already?" He questioned now getting up himself to walk over. "Ten minutes is up and I have a kid to put to bed."

He looked at him more intently noticing a weak smile spread across his face, baggy eyes said more than his voice though.

"I'll walk you down," he began quickly putting his shoes on as well. "No need to miss anything else I should be fine." As he finished he looked up to see him already around the corner.

A careful grasp wrapped around Haru making a small moment as they walked. "Least I can do wrap your legs around or I may drop you little fox."
