The topographical placements of the Jeju Island group was quite unique. While one could miss it from far away, if one would look deep into the placement and regional distribution they would understand just how complex the island group was in its natural form. 

There were seven prominent island surrounding the main island which contained the crack in it. Except for that, there were many smaller island pieces surrounding them. In these island pieces lay heavy amount of snow and heavy ice. Another prominent detail one would often miss is that the island group is covered with deep waters, which made it a perfect docking station and has provided a natural barrier for the snow bugs to propagate their population to mainland. The problem was that these bugs were adapting to the environment extremely quickly.
