Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Displaying My Skills

The Fowlers own one of the leading brands, Fowl. A potion making business that owns 2% of the entire market share in the world. They were the leading makers of high quality potions which can heal wounds, ailments and the highest grade potions they were able to manufacture could heal a missing limb. They were one of the respected families and although they're not that powerful in terms of internal power, they had external connections with powerhouses so not anyone could threaten them.

"If you're a B-rank, what's your role? You don't look like you can do any combat so I doubt your a fighter type." Kal asked as he laid on the bed.

"I'm a support, I am able to cast healing magic and I have the water element that boosts my magic output." Tony replied as he grabbed some books from his bag.

"Wow, someone who can cast healing magic? Aren't those people quite rare? You also have the water element." Support roles were one of the fewest roles of a hunter since becoming one had to rely on luck and talent. Most support roles were able to cast buff magic which enhances strength, agility and defense to either a single target or in an area. The ones who were sought out were healing type supports as some healers were able to regenerate energy, treat wounds and some were even able to heal the missing mana. But healers were one in a hundred thousand awakened. So being awakened as a healer meant you were given benefits that no normal hunter could get. They were a valuable asset to a country so they were protected at all cost.

"How about you? You seem to be the fighter type so what role do you have?" Tony asked as he read the books on his bed.

"Me? Except for support and mage, I'm a jack of all trades. In fact if I had decided to join the magic academy, I'd also become a certified mage." Kal said, shrugging his shoulders.

"You're so arrogant you know that right? You always speak words that don't make sense. If what you said is true, can you demonstrate it to me? Do one for fighter, one for range, one for tank and one for assassin." Tony sounded doubtful as he believed Kal was jus full of himself.

"Sure, but I don't have any weapons and if I demonstrate it here, I might destroy the dormitory." Kal said to Tony.

"Fine, if you can truly convince me, I'll let you borrow these books to help you in the alchemy but if you don't, you have to do what I tell you in a single day." Tony said as he stood up from his bed.

"Deal." Although the bet was unfair, Kal needed some knowledge about alchemy if he wanted to pass the test tomorrow plus if he did lose the bet, he knew that Tony wouldn't do anything below the belt since Kal already saw through his nature via [Instant Analysis].

It was their first time in the academy and they knew how vast the palace was but seemingly, as Kal followed Tony, he was surprised that Tony knew the directions as if he had been here a million times already.

'So this is the power of having connections, you can get any informations even the most high class like this one. Damn, I'm jealous.' Kal thought to himself as the look of envy was etched on his face.

"The gym should be here." Tony opened a wooden door from an enclosed building. The door slowly creaked open and inside was a huge hall. There were a lot of seats encircling the entire area like it's main purpose was to serve as a setting for events. In the front laid them solid furnished metal floor that had the durability to withstand the full power of an A-rank hunter and around them were weapons, dummies, weights and a lot more equipments that could be used for training. The place didn't look dusty or abandoned it all, in fact, it looked like it had just been cleaned yesterday.

"How do you know this place?" Kal asked as he walked around the hall.

"I have information about this place, the buildings, books and a lot of things." Tony said boastfully as if he proud to have these informations. Kal didn't mind his arrogance since it was something one should be proud of. He was scurrying around and as he grabbed the sword to check it's item information.

[Iron Sword

Type- Sword

Damage- 120

Durability- 200/200]

'It doesn't have that much information, it doesn't even have item skills, it's not even a training weapon. Why would they use this type of weapon for sparring?' Kal wondered in thought as he checked the weight and handle of the sword.

"So is your specialty, the sword? Well its common for hunters to use the sword so you'll be displaying the fighter role. Make sure to impress me." Tony said as he crossed his arms looking like a judge.

"I can use it but I'm not top-tier at the sword but this will be enough for the fi-" Kal's words were suddenly cut off as a group of young men barged into the door.

"Times up chump. Get out of here. Me lads gonna use this place." The young man looked like he was in his early twenties. He had distinctive European features, he was tall, he had a brown hair and he was very fit. He spoke in a very tarnished English accent and from the voice alone, it was clear that he was Scottish.

"We just got here. You don't have the rights to make use leave." Tony said as he stopped the 5 men from barging inside.

"Oh yeah? Ya really tryna disrespect your senior?" The Scottish man said.

"Hey man, your talking to 2nd year in the second level from the A-section. Show some respect and leave." The guy on his back said.

"If you don't leave, then we'll have to force you." Another guy said.

"You don't want to leave with broken legs right? Hahahahaha!" The men where laughing hysterically. Tony didn't have a choice since not only was he powerless in front of a group even though the undelrings were just 1st years, hew had to oblige with his senior since it was the rules in the academy.

"Let's go Kal. I'll give you the books later" Tony gritted his teeth as he tried to suppress his anger. He didn't want Kal any trouble and since he was the one making this bet, he had to be responsible with it.

"Didn't you say you want to see my skills. Well this is the perfect opportunity." Kal said as he patted Tony's back as if to say that he got this.

'When did he?' Tony was surprised as he saw that Kal was already beside him when he was literally 20 meters away from him.

"Kal don't! It's fine, let's not get into trouble in the first day, plus your dealing with groups of men here and the 2nd year looks like he's about to reach A-rank next year, we're only B-ranks so let's just apologize and leave." Tony wanted to leave but Kal didn't even listened to him as he simply walked in front of the 2nd year.

"We'll leave if any of you can defeat me in a spar." Kal said as he pointed hid sword towards them.

"Are Ya serious? Hahahahaha!" Everyone was laughing hysterically at Kal's words and thought that he was being too full of himself and he was literally asking to get beaten up. Tony wanted to stop Kal on what he was trying to do and he was the same mindset as the men, he was being overly confident.

"If you're afraid, you can always leave and let us mind our business. I'm not forcing anyone to fight me." Kal said with a grin in his face but his words triggered them quite a bit.

"Ya really getting on my nerves. Okay then we'll accept the spar." The Scottish man looked at one of his underlings and the underling simply nodded in response as he walked towards the weapon rack and chose a weapon. The weapon he chose was also a sword. Kal and the man stood in the middle as they rase their swords.

"The rules of the spar is simple, you can use any weapon in the weapon rack but do not use personal weapons. If one gets heavily injured, it's a win, if one concedes, it's also considered a win. Killing won't be allowed since of course, I'd be in a lot of trouble if I accidentally kill you." Kal said with a grin in his face.

"You arrogant basted! Let's see if you can talk more of your sh*t after I beat you up!" The man dashed towards Kal as he slashed his sword vertically towards his head. Kal didn't even move from his position and remained still.

"Is he being arrogant even with a sword coming his way?" One of the guys said while they spectated.

"Hey, isn't the sword nearing, if he dies, we'll get in trouble." Another man said.

"That lad was being arrogant, that's what he deserves." The Scottish man said as he etched a smug in his face. The sword was nearing Kal's forehead, everyone thought he might get sliced from that attack but as the sharp edge of the sword was about to pierce Kal's foreskin, Kal in a split second rotated his body counterclockwise with a single quick step from his foot.

"Fast!" Tony exclaimed. He was sure that the sword would hit Kal but he avoided the sword in a millimeter of space. Everyone also thought the same, they felt like they just watched a ghost move through objects and some even thought Kal teleported. When the man saw that Kal evaded his attack in such a quick manner that not even he saw felt shaken and tried to withdraw his sword. As soon as he retrieved his sword back, Kal held the handle in reverse and dashed in front of him as striked the hilt of the sword in the man's abdomen.

"Khuaak!" The man's body bended as he was pushed back a bit. Although the attack didn't look deadly since Kal only used the blunt part of the sword, the blow of the attack penetrated through his skin and to his organs. He quivered on the ground and felt such intense pain on his stomach. He couldn't even held his sword due to the pain and forced away the words to gritting mouth, "I...surrender..".

After hearing his words, Kal simply returned into his position.

"Who's next?" Kal asked as he looked on the spectators who had their eyes widened as they focus their eyes on the quivering man and glanced at Kal in disbelief.

"There's no way we can defeat him. His speed is like an A-rank and just by using the handle, he manage to put someone in his level groaning in the ground. Is he really a B-rank?" One of the guys said as he backed out.

"Nah, I assure of ya, that he is only a B-rank. I simply chose that guy because he was the weakest among everyone and the sudden speed was just him putting all his mana in his lower body so it looked like he had the power of an A-rank. I'm not sure about his swordsmanship but he looks like at the level of an expert so that's the only thing you should be wary." The Scottish man said.

"As expected of senior Nolan! He can analyze the battle quite easily." One of the guys said as he tried to bootlick the Scottish man.

"Let me try fighting him senior Nolan, my expertise is in Spear and I'm also at the level of an expert. Since swords are disadvantageous against enemies with longer range, maybe I can win against him." A man in a slim body said.

"Okay, you fight him next." Nolan agreed. The slim man went to the weapon rack and brought out a spear. The quivering man was already brought back to their side and seeing another opponent weilding as spear, Kal smiled.

"So you chose a spear against my sword. Well it wouldn't be fair would it?" Kal said.

"What do you mean? You said we can use any weapon in the rack, why would it be unfair?" The man asked. Kal went to the weapon rack and put his sword back. They were confused at what he was doing and when he replaced his sword with a spear, they were more confused.

"What? You're changing your sword to a spear? Are you trying to mock me?" The man said angrily.

"Yes, I'm trying to mock you." Kal smiled and raised his spear to the man.

"You'll regret this!" The man made his first move and weilded his spear in as very intuitive manner. Barrage of attack went towards Kal and the spectators were in awe at the execution of the man.

"He really is an expert. Let's see how this lad deal with this." The Scottish man said as he focused his gaze on Kal. Kal however didn't looked unfazed at the incoming attacks. He didn't move his body to try and evade the attacks, what he did however made the onlookers widen their eyes in shock. The spear was shooting at Kal like barrage of bullets but the bullets that were sure to hit their mark missed. Kal didn't move his feet in fact, he didn't move his body at all. It was weird that such accurate blows had missed a somewhat stationary target but when they saw Kal's hands move, that's when they found how the man's attack seem to completely miss. Kal had used his spear to change the trajectory of the spear that when it went to his direction, it looked like it would hit it's target but the aim would bend causing it to miss. It was such a shocking scene to see, to make powerful attacks was something to boast but to make an expert completely miss all its attacks was frightening.

"He has reached the Intermediate mastery of the spear! Is the spear is his real Forte not the sword?" The Scottish man couldn't help but be in awe. When they heard his words, they couldn't believe what he said. It was rare to find any hunter with no good background reaching the Intermediate rank. Finding one was like finding a monster prodigy from a powerful family.

'So does Kal know the Spear better than the sword?' Tony was filled with questions as he continue to watch the battle unfold. The man continued to miss and Kal didn't even dare to counter his attacks, he simply showed a smile at the frustrated man and no matter how irritated the man was from the smile, he felt powerless.

"I concede." The man decided to stop as not only was his energy draining, he was embarrassed as he regretted the confidence he had just showed a couple minutes ago. He went back to his seat and wanted to dig a burrow in the ground to hide from the embarrassment.

"That was easy. So who's next?" Kal yet again spoke as he he twirled his spear on his hands. Although quite arrogant, he was obligated enough to do so. What he showed was enough to consider him an elite among his peers so they didn't felt angered by his words, in fact they felt awestruck and envious. Nolan stood up from his seat and walked towards Kal.

"Is he gonna fight him?" One of the guys spoke.

"I hope so, finally we can see elites clash firsthand!" The guys felt exhilarated. Seeing two top tier hunters fight was considered and recognition among many hunters. It was a rare sight to see, it was like winning the swertres lotto (Swertres lotto is a Filipino type of lotto game where there are 3 winning numbers and the prize money can go from $100 to $600. It's usually played by lower class and middle class.), although quite often to win but rarely won by a person.

'Is he really gonna fight Kal? Even though they only have one rank gap, it's like comparing a pistol to a tank. They have such high level gap, if he decides to fight him, it sure that Nolan will win no matter what.' Tony thought to himself.

Kal saw that Nolan was walking nearer to him and he rose his spear at him as if to say that he is ready to fight. Kal knew he wasn't harboring any killing intent so he decided to lower his spear down and asked, "Are you gonna fight me?"

Nolan simply placed his hand on his pocket and pulled out an inch size badge that had a purple emblem of a mask with hollow eyes. He threw it at Kal and Kal caught the badge with a questioned look on his face.

"Join the Violet Guild." Nolan said. Everyone who heard it was in awe. They're jaws fell on the floor and their eyeballs almost fell out from its sockets.
