Chapter 3 - 3

"What is the meaning of this?"

"What?" said a bystander.

"There was a guy in a black suit and he told us-" Cyan stopped talking, realizing this had to be kept between her and Arin. Nobody else could know.

"Told you what?"

"Uh, th-that there was free, um, televisions!"

The bystander gave her a weird look. "Of course there are free televisions. There have been free televisions for a while now. Did you not hear about the Television Act of 2025 that mandated free televisions for every home?"

She and Arin headed back to their spaceship to discuss.

"The superior bread... he clearly meant white bread. But did we not already have white bread?" pondered Arin.

"Yeah, I had white bread pretty recently, about..." Cyan thought. She had last had it at a friend's party, as fairy bread, and that was, what, 5 years ago? 10? 20? 30? Yes, it was her friend's 5th birthday, and she was 35 now... so she'd had white bread 30 years ago. "... 30 years ago. How have I not had white bread in 30 years? More importantly, how have I not thought about this until now?"

"Wait, didn't the Water Bottle start ruling 30 years ago?" said Arin.

"It did! Does the Water Bottle hate white bread or something?" said Cyan.

"Not that I kn- wait, I remember the Water Bottle saying something about only liking rye bread."

"Weird, rye is the worst kind of bread. But why would it ban white bread specifically?"

"No idea. But we somehow need to kill the Water Bottle in order to get our white bread back."

They heard a mechanical whir. The camera in the corner of their kitchen swerved to watch them.

And that camera was implanted by the Great Water Bottle.
