Perhaps her sudden movements spooked the boy or something else she would never know because he turned and bolted in the opposite direction of her. Straight to the direction of real danger.
"No!--"a hushed shriek left her lips at the sight of the boy disappearing behind the corner. He will get him now.
She still ran in the direction of the boy hoping she could maybe still save him if she gets to him before he does.
However, she fell dead in her steps, frozen to a spot just a step away from the corner of the lobby. Her eyes rounded in realization that she was too late now.

She felt as though her heart fell into the pit of her stomach when she heard his deep rumbling voice call out to the innocent little boy.
The voice itself was calm, deep but smooth, menacing but passive. But what lies behind the veil of that mellow sound was what left her trembling.
