Back at the square
(Mira Pov)
I calmly walked to the figure responsible for all the destruction thus far.
"Well, well, well what do we have here? A leech and his army? What are you trying to do? Take over the world? Are you stupid?"
The rotting corpse stared at me with its hollow eyes that tinted with rage. He had a staff in his right hand, a long stick made out of what seemed to be disfigured bones.
Yup definitely a lich. Usually liches are made out of skeletons, but this one seems to be quite the high leveled one. For liches, the more flesh it has means the more magic it had when it was alive and it could also mean that he became a lich on his own accord.
"Silence monkey! It's lich not leech! I'm already pissed as it is. Stupid angels and their fucking delusions. I almost made a breakthrough in my research. Now, just shut up and die. I need to go back to my research."
That last part confirms it. He's definitely a lich. But what could the overgrown chickens want by attacking our territory? Did I just jinx it?
While I was pondering the real reason of the attack, the lich aimed his staff at me and started chanting. Looks like he's still researching how to instant cast higher tiered spells. Let's test his strength.
I constructed a few hundred magic circles on my right hand while readying a blink spell to his left. As soon as he launched his spell, I released the blink spell. Emerging from the rift, I sunk a hook to his left side of the chin. A loud cracking sound could be heard from the punch.
Seems like I broke his chin. Not like it would be enough to kill him. Liches are different from the common undead. Their soul isn't located in their bodies. They keep it in a seperate object called a phylactery. The only way to kill it is to destroy it's phylactery. Sometimes it's in the form of a stone, sometimes a book. It could be anything.
Usually liches leave their phylacteries in a safe place, but I suspect that his phylactery is his staff because liches can't be too far away from their phylactery. It doesn't look like the staff does anything significant as well. The mana that he gathered was from his hands rather than his staff.
"Come on, just give up you finch! Firaga!"
Numerous balls of flames fired against me. Is he getting serious? I guess I have to as well. Though I can't cast large area effect spells due to this small town.
I snapped my fingers, "Divine Origin!"
Numerous spears of light appeared in the sky. With a wave of my hand, all of them rained down to the Lich. This spell is convenient because it only targets being's that are weak against holy magic. Buildings and people alike are safe from the spears and even in the event that it hit them, they would only feel a little itch.
The spears of light pierced the lich from all angles, destroying his body as well as the staff. Only ashes remained. I waited for a bit to confirm his death. Maybe he's dead? As I was thinking that, his ashes started to get together again, forming his corpse self once again. Turns out that I was wrong.
Maybe it's one of his minions. Hmmm.. Nah I don't think he's that stupid.
"I guess it's high time we end this farce don't you say?" I said.
"Hmph. Gladly" he snorted.
I constructed my most powerful spell : God's Hand. An ultimate tier spell that I concocted. It solidifies white magic to create a holy effect and and surrounds itself with dark magic. The dark magic outer layer destroys everything it touches. Usually I wouldn't even consider this spell for it's mass destructive force and it's outrageous mana consumption, but I don't have any choice if I want to handle this incident quietly and effectively.
I'd like to use my weapon instead but Luke isn't here to hold me back. If he doesn't stop me, I might kill my babies in the process. If my babies die before me... I don't know what I would do. Ahh.. I really want to cuddle with them right now.
"Goodbye leech. Have fun in the underworld."
"Noooooooo!!!!!"
He disintegrated. Not even ashes remain. In the place he was standing lie the shape of a giant hand. This time he didn't resurrect again, all thanks to my brilliant spell. It literally destroys everything it touches. Even the soul connection between the lich and his phylactery.
Fuh.. I'm tired as hell. Well, I better get going to the children. They still need their mommy to protect them.
"Aaarrggghh!" I grimaced.
As I just started to face the west area of town, someone stabbed me in the back. My mind was becoming more and more sloppy, my vision weakened, my body wouldn't move. He must've coated the blade with poison. But how could I have not sense him?
"Sir, we've managed to subdue the Ruin Priestess. We'll be returning to the rendezvous point now." the man in question reported.
"Sorry Luke..."
