♡Jane♡
Once upon a time, there was a young maiden.
She wasn't that great looking, but she wasn't ugly, either.
She wasn't blonde.
She wasn't your stereotypical, helpless, beautiful fairy tale heroine.
She most definitely was not waiting for her prince.
She was waiting for her princess.
She was having a really, really hard time finding one.
Especially in her very religious high school.
Jane smirked, taking that page and folding it, slipping it into her bag for later. That was a little too close to home for a creative writing assignment. While she doubted any teachers actually read the papers, she was better safe than sorry. At her boarding school, St. Frances High, the mindset was very LGBTQ intolerant. Morning chapel announcements would include 'intervention' announcements about every two weeks. Said announcements encouraged students to bring forth concerns about any peers' homosexual behavior, so it could be remedied... meaning the offending students would be given a solid thirty minute lecture about how they were going to Hell if they kept on sinning, and they ended with a plea to get help from the counselor, saying it wasn't too late to be "fixed".
Again, turning in that particular type of story wasn't the brightest idea.
She glanced about the room. Everyone's heads were down, and they all were scribbling away. A boy from three aisles away caught her eye and grinned. He flashed her a call me gesture. Rolling her eyes, she muttered, "As if."
Oliver had been trying for the last five years to get her number, repeating that he just wanted to get to know her, all the while giving her suggestive glances and smirking flirtatiously. She didn't feel bad. He was the biggest player in the grade. She let her eyes wander again, and, as usual, they found Ava in the seat across from hers.
She and Ava never had talked much. While Jane was very well liked and moderately popular, Ava was a cheerleader, which put them into entirely different social stratospheres. As Jane watched, Ava bit her lip and looked down, brushing her hair back and exposing her neck. She looked up. Jane snapped her head down, intently staring at her desk. Nope. Nope. Nope Nope Nope. Not today. Before long, her mind began to drift.
She and Ava had been going to the same school since the second grade, as St. Frances Boarding School went from kindergarten to twelfth grade. She couldn't pinpoint exactly when she'd began crushing on Ava, but she knew it was somewhere around the eighth grade. The year before was when she had realized she was gay. It all had started with a sleepover at her friend Vanessa's house. Along with a few other girls she knew, there was a stranger. She was stunning, and for the life of her Jane couldn't remember her name. While everybody had been getting dressed for bed, the girl had stripped down to just her bra and underwear. Jane, without quite meaning to, was staring. The girl pulled on a pair of athletic shorts, but just before she could get a shirt on, Vanessa rushed in with a pillow, swinging it wildly. They all had shrieked, and all the girls were soon frantically hitting each other with any pillows they could find. Jane stood there. The feelings she'd been getting for a while around girls were coming back now, and before she knew it she was on the floor. The girl, grinning, hit her again. She ended up with the girl straddling her waist, pinning her with one hand and pillow pummeling her with the other.
She had taken a very, very cold shower that night.
She also remembered the time that she had-
"JANE!"
Jane flinched and snapped to attention. She could feel the eyes of almost everyone in the room boring into her. "Yes ma'am?"
The teacher, Ms. Flentwick, gave her a steely glare. "Have you been paying any attention, Jane?"
"Yes ma'am," Jane promptly responded. She, obviously to everyone present, had not, but to say no was utmost stupidity.
"All right," Ms. Flentwick sneered, "If you've been paying attention you'll be able to tell me the book I just assigned the class to read."
Jane looked around helplessly. She could practically feel the detention slip in her hand. Anyone caught daydreaming was given a pink slip and told to report to room two fifty after classes. She gulped. "Uhmm... it's th-"
Rinngggg.
Thank you Jesus. She scooped her things into her arms and bolted, blending in with the crowd before Fuckwick could call her back. Turning back to see if She was being followed by the teacher from Hell, she ran directly into someone, causing papers to fall from both of their hands and scatter in the hall. She spun around, apologizing already.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry, let me-" She ducked down and began picking up papers.
"Don't worry about it," the person said. Jane froze. No way. She looked up.
It was Ava.
