"Brother Matthew, where are we going?" The second kobold kid asked.
"Well, this is your first day of training so I will explain to you our daily training schedule. It's not really complicated, there will only be three parts to our training session. The first one is strength training, the second one is agility training while the last training is body conditioning."
The second kobold kid's eyes looked slightly empty of thought when Matthew listed out the training schedule, but nonetheless, the second kobold kid smiled and gave Matthew a thumbs up while saying,
"Okay!" With an excited tone of voice.
'Ah, he didn't really get it did he…?' Matthew thought while looking at the twins walking beside him.
"Is there anything you want to ask?" Matthew said when he saw the third kobold kid opening and closing her mouth a couple of times.
"Um…Yes…" The third kobold kid's small voice was heard for the first time in a while.
"Don't be shy, kid. Ask me anything!" Matthew said while giving the most friendliest-looking smile that he could do.
"Then…Can I ask what body conditioning is?"
"Of course! Remember that when you all said that you want to be able to fight barehanded like me? Body conditioning is needed to be able to do that. By toughening your body, particularly your fist, you will be able to use them even against the beasts from the forest without injuring your own body in the process. Although I don't really know how stronger your fists will become by using this kind of traditional training method and will they actually be strong enough to go head to head with beasts bones, I'm hoping that by the time you kids evolve into adult kobolds, the evolution will help strengthen the fist even more."
"Considering that the other kobolds evolved into kobold warriors after doing the daily routine of the other kobolds, while the first kid grandpa becomes a mage after training in magic, I'm hoping that the evolution will consider your training in body conditioning and enhance your fist and becomes like a kobold fist warrior or something like that."
"Don't you think that if you could evolve into more species then that means all the kobolds will have new opportunities that they have yet t…"
Matthew finally realized that he had lost the attention of his audience mid-way in his rant.
'Ah, they're kids… normal, ordinary kids…' After getting used to talking to the first kobold kid for quite some time, Matthew forgot that the other two children are ordinary children that probably won't argue with him using a counter-logic and making promises with loopholes in them(despite the fact that he also did it).
"What I mean is that body condition is so that you can be as strong as me." He explained to the third kobold kid.
"I see… okay…" The third kobold kid said timidly while giving Matthew a shy thumbs up.
"Ah, when you're saying okay you do it like this,"
"Make a circle with your thumb and index fingers while straightening the other three." Matthew then proceeds to show the twins an okay sign using his right hand.
"Okay!" The twins said while showing the okay sign with their hands.
The three of them then arrived at the outskirts of the village near the village's entrance.
"Alright we're here, let's start our first training!"
Seeing stacks of wood laying on the ground, and an adult kobold chopping wood with his bone axe, the kids didn't know what kind of training that they would be doing.
"What do we do brother?" The second kobold kid asked.
"We-You are going to be chopping firewood for the village!"
Both of the twins had a confused faces, but after Matthew convinced them by saying,
"Your back muscles will deve- You will be able to punch harder if you do this training!"
The adult kobold that was in charge of the wood chopping then gave the kids a bone axe each. Although the kids are only about a head taller than the bone axes, with the kobold's innate strength that surpasses humans, even the kids are able to hold the bone axes properly.
The adult kobolds guided the kids and taught them how to swing their axes and which part of the wood they needed to hit to be able to chop the firewood properly.
'The kobolds are surely tougher than the humans. At least the humans I know back on earth.' Matthew thought after seeing the twins swing their axes for the thirtieth time perfectly without even showing signs of fatigue on their faces.
'And is this applied to other kobolds or only the twins that could grasp the technique to chop the firewood quickly after only a few tries?' Matthew thought as he watched the kids doing their 'training' and the adult kobold who also seemed slightly surprised after seeing the two kids doing their job almost flawlessly on their first day.
'It seems that it's only the twins…Well, I guess they have their parents' kobold warriors' genes in them.'
The kids continued chopping wood 20 more times and they finally showed signs of fatigue, visually by their faces and their movement started becoming sluggish. But the reason they stopped chopping wood is not that they are too tired to continue, but rather all the firewood had been chopped in half and there's none left for the day.
Matthew then thanked the adult kobold for allowing the kids to chop the firewood and the adult kobold unexpectedly said that he was the one who felt helped and told Matthew that the kids will be welcome anytime they wanted to help.
Matthew then decided to give the kids time to rest since their next training is still strength training and it also needed their stamina to be back at least three third of the full amount.
While Matthew and the twins were resting, a group of kobold kids was playing nearby. They ran from one another and there seems to be one kobold kid who was chasing all their other friends,
'I guess they're playing tag?'
While Matthew was trying to figure out what the kids were playing, he realized that the twins had their puppy eyes locked onto the other kids.
"Do you two also want to play?"
"No, we want to be strong together with the first brother! First brother had said that if we only play all the time then we won't be able to be as strong as our parents. Now that the first brother is busy training with his grandpa, then we will also be training ourselves!" The second kobold kid said,
"Yes…And we don't want to leave first brother behind and play without him…" The third kobold kid added.
Matthew couldn't help but smile when he heard the twins answer and think,
'That kid is surely lucky…'
"Well, we better start our next training then, your next chor-training is waiting for you!"
After doing their first training, the twins had already got an idea of what kind of training that they would be doing. By the time they arrived at their second training place and they were told to help the kobold tending the fields to draw water from the village well and bring them to a huge water container near the plant fields, the twins didn't mutter a complaint and just do what they were told to do.
But of course, Matthew explained to the twins that it is also beneficial for them by saying,
"To have a stronger punch, you also need to train your legs!"
This time around, the twins really felt tired and by the time they were done, they were slumped down on the ground even without Matthew telling them to rest.
After the twins took their 1-hour long rest, the sun was already right above their heads and the first kobold kid had finally joined them full of energy and smiles hanging on his face,
"Hey what have you guys been doing!? I hope I'm not missing out on something interesting!" The first kobold kid said while half-running towards the group.
"You all look… tired…?" He said after seeing the twins were still on the ground with their backs leaning against the crudely made punching bags that they will be using for their next training.
"Well then, now that all of you are here, let's start the next training!"
"Yes! Let's go!" The first kobold kid said enthusiastically
While the twins only said okay, without the hand signs, and slowly got up from the ground.
"Don't worry, the agility training will only last about 30 minutes and after that, we will move on to body conditioning and technique training," Matthew said while giving the same wide smile that he gave the twins earlier in the morning.
The agility training didn't last long as Matthew made the training mainly because the children wanted to jump from tree to tree as he did and because the monkey bars are still being made, Matthew only made the kids do some zig-zag running and playing tag where the three of them will try to run away from Matthew.
After that, Matthew proceeds to teach the kids basic punching techniques that he knows of like the jab, the hook, and the uppercut and told the kids to do them repeatedly on the punching bag. He also told the kids the knowledge he got from watching sport documentary videos on the internet that,
"Use all the muscles in your body to your fists! Use your back muscles every time you throw a punch, rotate your hips, and draw power from your legs onto your fists!"
By using the padding, the kids were able to punch the wooden pillar many times without injuring their hands and as they repeated the movement and felt their own bodies, the kids were finally able to grasp what Matthew was telling them about drawing power from all over their bodies.
They finished their training by early evening with the kids spending most of their energy and went straight to bed after eating. While Matthew, who hadn't eaten a proper portion of food for some time already, decided to go out hunting in the forest alone.
He finally met a group of deers instead of boars this time and he proceeded to kill only 4 of them so that he wouldn't be wasting anything.
He ate 3 on the spot, cleaned himself from the blood as best as he could using his tongue and the nearby leaves before dragging one back to the village, and told the kobolds that he had only brought back one because he didn't have enough strength to carry more and he told them that wished that he would get an extra portion tomorrow.
Matthew then went straight to bed with a full stomach for the first time in a long time and hoping that he will get a sweet dream this time.
Although he indeed dreamt that night, it's not the one that he had wanted to see.
