Chapter 101 - Scute vs Tusk

With his body fully invisible, Matthew didn't need to worry about walking out in the open without needing to hide behind bushes or trees to ambush the group of boars. The only thing that he needed to be wary about is stepping on dry leaves and twigs on the ground, but since he didn't need to hurry and he could take his time slowly walking towards the boars, walking carefully by watching his steps is a luxury that he could afford.

Without his poison and his versatile tongue, Matthew's combat power was significantly weaker than usual and it would be fatal to him if he fought the bear without them. However, his opponents currently were merely low leveled boars that Matthew could incapacitate in a minute by only injecting a small dose of his venom without him needing to do anything else.

In this fight, Matthew didn't think of any complex strategy or come up with any tricks as the most basic method of ambushing them is enough to get himself some boars to be brought back to the kobold village for the others to eat.

Matthew quickly avoided the patch of dry leaves and the scattered twigs before arriving beside the group of boars.

At first, Matthew wanted to just capture two boars alone since catching all four of them without using his venom would be quite troublesome and required more effort, but after he thought about it, there's a way to get all 4 of the boars with minimal effort.

Matthew then circled the group of boars and he is currently in the direct opposite direction of the kobolds, with the group of boars right in the middle of the two groups. And with that, Matthew finished his preparation.

Without waiting any longer, Matthew slowly walked towards the nearest boar while his claws were slowly moving towards the boar's neck.

Matthew thrust his claws towards the boar's neck without even a slight hesitation. The sharp and sturdy wolf claws easily penetrated the boar's hide and reached deep into the boar's throat.

The boar, who didn't know anything and only minding his own business chewing on berries, suddenly felt an unbearable pain on its neck and released a loud squeal that was heard even by the kobolds group tens of meters away.

But Matthew's attack wasn't over as the moment his claws reached the boar's throat, he crooked his fingers into a hook before yanking his claws out of the boar's throat.

The hook-like claws tore apart the boar's throat and red blood started gushing out of its neck. That last squeal turned out to be the last thing the boar could do before falling into the ground with blood still steadily flowing out of its neck and when the blood stopped flowing it also became a sign that its life was already gone.

Unfortunately for the boars, Matthew didn't plan on killing only one boar. After tearing apart the boar's neck, Matthew shouted loudly,

"Nass and the others, prepare yourself!"

Matthew then went towards the next boar and prepared to do the same thing to it.

The boars didn't sit still when they saw that one of them was suddenly killed without any signs or warning and when they heard Matthew's voice, they all looked in the direction where the voice was coming from, but they still couldn't see anything.

But that didn't stay for long. When Matthew arrived at his second target, Matthew thrust his claws once again towards the boar's neck. However, before he tore apart the boar's neck, he deactivated his chameleon aura ability making himself visible to the group of boars.

The three boars had a look of surprise when they saw Matthew suddenly appear out of nowhere, but the surprise didn't last long for the boar that was right in front of Matthew.

The moment Matthew deactivated his aura ability, he had already pulled out his hand, tearing apart the neck of his second target and left the surprised boar bleeding to death.

The boars might not be the brightest animals and most of their actions are based on their instincts to fulfill their basic needs rather than the fruit of their thoughts.

But the boar is certainly smart enough to sense danger. One of the most basic requirements to live inside the forest is to survive. And to survive, the boars needed to have the ability to sense danger and avoid them.

Looking at Matthew who was covered in blood, their comrade's blood that was still dripping freshly from Matthew's hand, the boars knew even though they outnumbered Matthew by 1, they would only die if they decided to confront Matthew.

Despite seeing their comrade mercilessly killed right in front of their eyes, they knew that their own survival is more important than getting angry and wanting to get their revenge that is certainly impossible to achieve with the current circumstances.

So the boars hurriedly turn their tails and run towards the opposite direction of their attackers. The boars didn't even look back for a second as they only had one goal in mind and that was to escape the dangerous creature as soon as they could.

They ran so fast thinking that their life depended on how fast their legs were able to move and they quickly got out of Matthew's vision.

But unfortunately for the boars, after only running for a few seconds, the boars met 6 kobolds standing with their sharp spears pointing towards them.

Carrying their huge momentum with them, the boars couldn't control their bodies properly to stop or change directions as the kobolds soon circled them from all directions and attacked them from all sides.

The two boars were helpless as attacks kept on coming from the six kobolds and every time the boar tried to make a desperate attempt to create a gap to let one of them escape, Nass would neutralize them and keep them in check for the weaker ordinary kobolds.

Matthew wanted to let the six kobolds finish up the remaining two boars, but remembering that the kobolds wanted to see how Matthew usually hunted, he decided to finish the hunt with a little bit of show.

He then climbed onto a tree, using his agile limbs to quickly arrive at one of the tree branches before launching himself off the tree, moving towards the trapped boars from above the trees.

When Matthew was only a few meters away from the boars, he completely jumped off a tree and went directly on top of one of the boars. He then used the claws on his feet and left hand to attach himself firmly on the boar's back before repeating the same process of tearing its neck using his right hand.

Matthew was about to launch his tongue to trip the one other boar by yanking one of its feet, but he stopped himself from doing so after remembering that he couldn't use his tongue. Matthew then jumped off the current boar's back and rushed towards the one remaining boar.

Matthew had been practicing his ability to fight without using his invisibility or using an assassination-like technique. His fighting ability so far was only from relying on his instincts, little fighting experience, and copying moves from martial arts movies, but with his new body that was way more agile, flexible, and stronger than his human body, even Matthew could do some of the impossible moves from the movies that turned out to be somewhat useful.

Dodging, rolling, parrying, and the saying 'use your whole body when throwing a punch,' Matthew tried implementing them to his fights and it turned out better than expected as Matthew was able to fight the deers and the boars without using his invisibility or ambushing them while he was only on his second evolution.

But now after his third evolution and getting the crocodile scutes, Matthew didn't need to exert much effort fighting one on one with a boar.

The desperate boar saw Matthew was charging towards him and even though the boar knew that the creature in front of him was dangerous, he realized that he only had two choices. Either he willingly waits for his death or he will die while trying to take the creature along with him.

And as a race who would bravely sacrifice themselves for their kin's safety, the boar decided the latter and charged towards the rushing Matthew.

In the past, even Matthew needed to dodge if the boar was rushing towards him. The build-up momentum and the boar's tusk are enough to put holes in his body, but now that he essentially got body armor covering his back and the topside of his hands that is very good at dealing with physical attacks, Matthew didn't need to jump or roll away.

Matthew put up the topside of his hand that was covered in crocodile scutes and placed them directly against the boar's tusk.

With only a small distance between them, the boar couldn't gain enough momentum to overpower Matthew and the scutes were tough enough to deflect the boar's tusk causing all his offensive measures to be left useless.

While his hand was still in contact with the boar's tusk, Matthew pushed up the boar's head and quickly thrust his other hand towards the boar's neck, and the same scene where his hand was dripping with the boar's blood repeated once again.
