Chapter 75 - The Village Chief's House

Despite the threat of being hit five times, the first kobold still walked inside the wooden house brazenly with Matthew in hand. He opened the hanging cloth door and finally arrived inside the village chief's house.

Matthew looked at the interior of the house and he was actually quite impressed by the furniture inside. Although there's nothing that looked fancy or exquisite, the fact that there's even a proper table and chairs is quite surprising for him considering the fact that these kobolds live inside a forest.

There's a lot of questions that appeared on Matthew's mind just from looking at a simple house furniture,

'Did they make it themselves? But how do they even know about these things? Did they used to trade with the humans or something? Or do they have and develop their own culture?'

Matthew decided that if he successfully helped solve the kobold village crisis, then he will take his time to learn more about those kinds of stuff as only now that he realizes that the world that he lived in now is really another world just like earth that has its own rich history.

And considering the fact that this world has levels, evolutions, aura ability, and many other things that Matthew had never encountered before when he was on earth except from playing video games, made Matthew wonder what exciting stories that this world has to offer. Just from the existence of those video game-like stuff alone, Matthew guessed that this world should be at least 10 times more interesting than the previous world that he lived in.

But Matthew's pondering didn't last for long as the old man's voice resounded loudly in his ears again.

"You naughty brat! You dare to suddenly disappear out of nowhere in this crucial time!? What if the humans caught hold of you and they made you their slaves huh? Can't you use your smart brain to think of such things? Come here and let me beat you until your head is working properly again!"

The old kobold got up from the simple wooden chair that he was sitting on and in his right hand was a long wooden staff, almost as tall as himself, and Matthew could even see that there's symbols carved onto the body of the long wooden staff.

The old kobold swung his staff left and right as he walked to the first kobold kid as if he really wanted to beat the kid to a pulp. The kobold twins had already backed off far enough that they were practically standing right before the entrance and ready to flee anytime soon if they were also dragged into the 'disciplining session' that the first kobold kid is about to get.

But the first kobold kid of course didn't want to get a beating and hurriedly said,

"I brought help for our village! When you waste your time here doing nothing, I have actually done something that may save our village!"

"Ho? Where is it? Where is the help you are speaking of? Did you actually get an army to fight off the humans? Where is it? Where is that army?"

"Here is the help!" The first kobold exclaimed while pushing Matthew to the front.

Matthew is now looking at the old kobold and with their height similar to each other, they are literally standing directly face to face with each other.

"Um...Hi?" Matthew said while he tried his best to give a not-awkward smile.

The old kobold didn't actually pay much attention to Matthew when he first came in with his grandson, he only thought that one of the kobolds patrolling the area had delivered him his lost grandson, so he neglected Matthew's existence and just went straight to scolding the first kobold kid.

But now that Matthew has been practically shoved into his face, the old kobold finally realizes that there's something different about Matthew, particularly his appearance.

The old kobold scanned Matthew's body from top to bottom while squinting his eyes and he even paused for a few moments when he noticed that Matthew didn't wear any pants and the absence of a 'thing' under those pants.

But the old kobold, being an 'old' kobold, didn't give any unnecessary comments and just stayed silent about the several unusual things on Matthew's body and he just offered his hands for Matthew to shake while saying,

"Hello lad, my name is Mutt, what is yours?"

"Hello sir, my name is Matthew," Matthew replied while shaking the old kobold's hand

Although Matthew didn't know what the customs of the kobolds were, considering that the kobold kid still called him big brother even though he already told him his name, then he could only guess that calling the old kobold sir would be appropriate.

After releasing the handshake, the old kobold didn't ask anything else and just went straight to the point by asking,

"So Matthew, how are you going to help us? I am very thankful that you wanted to help us, and from the looks of it you are at least a level 15 kobold warrior or even higher, but realistically speaking, I don't think that a single kobold warrior would be enough to avert this crisis. I don't want you to just waste your life here helping our village."

Matthew was quite touched by the old kobold's words when he cared about Matthew's well-being and he was speaking of the fact that there is a high chance that Matthew will die protecting people that he had barely known.

"I actually…" Matthew was about to explain why he wanted to help the village and it was his own choice to do so, but once again the first kobold kid cut him by once again saying,

"Grandpa, big brother Matthew had defeated the dangerous beast single-handedly! I am sure that he will at least give us more time to prepare ourselves. And if big brother Matthew could even defeat the beast with little to no wounds, then I'm sure that he will surely survive the human attacks unscathed!"

The old kobold was quite surprised when he first heard that Matthew was able to defeat the bear alone, but the first thing that come out of his mouth was,

"You stupid child, you must be the one who forced him to help the village. How could you force our responsibilities and problems onto someone else just like that huh!?" The old kobold looked genuinely angry as he has already brought his wooden stuff high up and was about to bring it down to hit the first kobold kid, but in the end, he brought down his staff slowly before he let out a sigh and said to Matthew,

"Kid, Matthew, Thank you for your willingness to help us, but the situation is no joke this time around and I don't think you will get anything from doing this. I don't know where you are from and how you got here and how exactly you defeated the bear, but I don't want to burden you with our village problems. And I'm sorry if this kid is forcing you to do it, the kid has a lot on his smart mind right now and he ended up bothering you to do something that you wanted to."

The first kobold kid was about to open his mouth and gave a reply to his grandpa, but this time Matthew was the one who spoke faster and he said,

"Sir, I really am thankful for your consideration, but I really decided to do this for my own reasons. And although the kid had something to do with it by asking for my help, at the end of the day, I am the one who agreed to do it and not because the kid forced me to."

"As for how much I can help you all, I don't actually know. Although I am quite confident with my current skills, I don't know how strong the humans are. And speaking of which, I don't even know how strong I am compared to other kobolds at my current level. But I am willing to try and give it my best to try and help the village out."

The old kobold listened closely to what Matthew had said, while he nodded and have an understanding look when Matthew told him that he wanted to help, the old kobold had one question,

"Why?"
