Chapter 66 - What Aura?

Matthew once again circled around the bear to look for an opening, and by this time the bear had already got used to Matthew's attack pattern, and the bear already knew his hands were enough to completely deter Matthew's assault so it stayed calm and patiently waited for Matthew to stop and attack him.

Even though the bear felt that his hands were severely aching right now, the bear thought that it was better for his hands to be attacked than the organs on his body.

And just like the bear had predicted, Matthew suddenly stopped from circling around the bear, then Matthew started advancing towards the bear.

Matthew took one step closer to the bear's body and winded up his claws to the back. The bear then reacted as usual by holding out its hands to block Matthew's advance. But that moment where the bear brought its hands is the moment that Matthew had been waiting for.

Matthew had been attacking around the same area on each of the bear's hands. Each attack cutting deeper into the bear's hands, and when his claws reached the bear's bone, Matthew would shift the attack slightly and keep on repeating it until a part of the bear's bones are exposed almost from all angles, and right now, there's only a small section of the muscle left connecting the muscle on the bear's hands.

Although the aura ability stopped the blood from flowing out from the bear's hands even though the damage on the bear's hand was quite severe, the lack of blood and signs of damage made the bear ignore the pain he felt on his hands. And hence the bear decided to once again block Matthew's attack using his severely damaged hands without knowing the consequences that he will have to suffer from his decision right now.

Matthew had already winded up his claws to his back as if he wanted to give the bear's hands a powerful slash from the wind-up, but when Matthew was close enough, he didn't bring down his claws to attack the bear.

Instead, Matthew took another step to get closer into the bear's right hand before opening his wolf mouth and chomped down on the part that he had been attacking again and again earlier.

With most of the muscles on that part gone, Matthew only has to deal with the bear's bones. The bear's bones may be tough, but with the wolf's aura ability, Matthew's teeth had also received an upgrade just like his claws. And not only that, his jaw muscle that he added from the crocodile and the crocodile's second jaw joint that had also been buffed by the aura worked together to clamp Matthew's mouth shut.

The bear's bone, which had lost the protection from the aura-infused muscles, can't hold out for long under the immense pressure from Matthew's pseudo crocodile bite and finally break apart with a resounding cracking sound that can be heard even from 20 meters away.

With the bones breaking, and muscles gone, the bear had lost its ability to move his right hand. Although his shoulder can still be moved, the rest of his right hand is totally limp.

Matthew backed away and prepared to do the same thing to the bear's other hand that was in a similar condition to the previous one, but the bear had already released a thundering roar that properly expresses its wrath.

'Shout all you want, but that hand won't be moving anytime soon without any bones and muscles to move it!'

'That's what you get from only caring about your internal organs and forgetting biology 101!'

Matthew was about to ignore the bear's loud roar and proceed with breaking the bear's left hand. But Matthew had suddenly stopped moving his body and stared at the bear blankly. He was dumb-founded so much that his mouth literally opened up so big that he could fit his two claws inside with ease.

Matthew stood in place as he watched the bear's white aura slowly change into a shade of yellow, a color that he had never seen before when a creature uses aura. And when all the white aura on the bear's body had changed into yellow, Matthew felt a breeze of wind coming from the bear's body.

Matthew knew that something was wrong when he saw the aura changing color and the breeze went past his body. He quickly turned his tail and did a rapid 180 degrees turn before running away as fast as he could.

'I don't know what the heck that is, but after playing some video games and knowing that bosses usually have different stages after their health bar went down, I know that this is likely to be the same case!'

Matthew was only about 5 meters away from the bear when suddenly his 360 degrees vision suddenly saw a yellow light shaped like the bear's claw coming in his way. Their speed was about the same as Matthew's, but unfortunately for Matthew, it was still faster than him and the yellow light soon caught up to him.

'Ah sh*t' is the last thing that Matthew thought before a cloud of dust went up into the air and Matthew disappeared inside it.

The bear looked at the cloud of dust that was caused by his wind elemental aura ability. After reaching level 20, the bear gained a new aura ability that had the wind element as its properties.

The wind aura gave him the ability to do a ranged attack using his claws and the wind aura. The bear could propel the wind aura using his claws and made a wind blade that could travel forward towards the direction where he slashed his claws.

And earlier, the bear had just sent forward a single slash of wind blade using his left hand, the only hand that was still usable after his right hand had been damaged until it was unfunctional.

But that single slash contained a lot of wind aura because of the bear's enraged state. Just like how Matthew used his feelings and visualization to manipulate the aura in his body, it works the same for other creatures that used aura. The strong emotion that the bear had right now is affecting his wind aura to surge into his hands when he was slashing his left claw towards Matthew and resulted in the huge amount of aura being condensed into the wind blade.

And hence why the wind blade produced so much dust that it literally became a smokescreen when it hit the ground near the creature that was running away from him.

The bear thought that his attack earlier should at least damage the creature quite severely since the creature was too focused on running away that it shouldn't have expected an attack like that to hit it out of nowhere unless the creature had eyes on its back and could see what's happening behind his head. But sadly for the bear, Matthew could.

When Matthew saw the yellow light coming at him at a rapid speed, he knew that he would be surely hit by the yellow light if he continued to run straight forward. And knowing that fact, the moment the light was close enough, Matthew jumped sideways using all his strength and barely dodged the yellow light resulting in the yellow light hitting the dirt ground and made a cloud of dust that covered a small radius around the area where it landed.

The bear was about to walk to the cloud of dust to see how severe the wound he had inflicted onto the creature, but before he even started to walk, he saw the creature walk out of the dust cloud. Although the creature's body looked slightly worn out from all the dirt and dust sticking onto its body, the creature's body was still completely intact with no wound or blood on its body.

'How is that possible!?' The bear was about to ask, but before the bear was able to form the words on his mind, he saw the unknown creature already start dashing towards him.

With only a few meters distance separating between the two. Matthew still had his wolf aura ability activated, and a few meters distance only took him a split second to traverse using his enhanced physique.

This means that the bear only had a very small amount of time to react to Matthew's sudden attack. With only one hand left and a limited amount of time to think up of a way to dodge Matthew's attack, the bear could only follow its reflexes and instincts which is to swing his left hand downward in an urgent manner, making another wind blade to be propelled from the bear's left hand towards Matthew who is now only about a meter away from him.

Matthew saw the bear winding up his left hand upward, and telegraphed its attack so much that it gave Matthew enough clues and warned him about what the bear was about to do.

Matthew then jumped sideways once again to dodge the yellow claw attack from the bear, resulting in the yellow light crashing to the ground once again and making another cloud of dust. But that was precisely what Matthew had in mind when he decided to dash forward towards the bear.

Matthew was quite baffled at first when he was attacked by the yellow light. But after seeing it for the second time, he already got an idea in mind on how to use it to his advantage.

When the ranged claw attack hit the ground, it produced another dust cloud not inferior to the last one since the bear acted on its reflex to hit the ground as hard as it could to prevent Matthew from getting any closer to it.

The dust cloud once again acted as a smoke bomb that limited the bear's range of view. Matthew then backed away under the cover of the dust cloud before swiftly deactivating his wolf's aura ability and changed into the chameleon's aura ability once again and disappeared out of sight.
