Matthew looked at the angry tall black spider behind him, its body is pitch black, with 8 thin and sharp legs holding up its main body.
Matthew then put up his most adorable chameleon face and tried his best to say 'I am sorry.' But the spider replied Matthew's sincere apology with a loud screech and bringing up 2 of his sharp front legs.
'I don't believe that means you forgive me?' Matthew thought while tilting his head. But before Matthew could make any more attempt at apologizing, the black spider swung one of its front legs aiming to slice Matthew's body. Luckily, the spider's motion is quite big and the spider telegraphed his attack so much that it gives Matthew enough time to use his 4 legs to dodge the attack and start running away down the trees.
The angry spider didn't just let Matthew go away just like that, after breaking its web, the spider at least wanted compensation by making Matthew its dinner. The black spider looked at the running chameleon below him and decided to spit out a clump of web from its behind to try and catch Matthew or at least slow him down.
Fortunately, with a chameleon 360 degrees vision, Matthew saw what was coming and anticipated the web attack, and changed his running direction to dodge the clump of web.
Seeing its attempt at catching the chameleon failed, the black spider jumped straight down from the trees to the ground below and the spider landed successfully at the ground with no damage at all despite its huge body.
Matthew who's just arrived at the base of the tree is faced with the black spider head-on. He was startled earlier so he wasn't able to think clearly, but now that it finally seeped into him, the fact that he is currently faced with a spider that is even bigger and taller than himself is very scary for him, especially for his still human psychology.
Matthew's brain goes into full speed and he tries to think of ways on how to deal with this predicament. He then remembered something. Now that they are on the ground that is covered by a lot of grass, Matthew's green body should be hard to spot between the many blades of grass. So Matthew decided to slowly sneak around the spider and get away without the spider noticing.
But one thing that Matthew didn't know is that spiders didn't really rely on their vision too much, they instead relied more on their other senses such as feeling the vibration around it to determine exactly its prey location.
The unfortunate Matthew that was ignorant about that fact, thought that his plan was perfect and walked near the spider to sneak around behind it. The spider sensed something moving near him and quickly turned his body to the direction where he felt the movement and swung down his sharp front legs.
Matthew, who was still closely watching the spider with his excellent vision, noticed the spider's attack in his direction, but he was a tad bit too late and the spider's sharp leg succeeded in cutting open Matthew's side slightly before Matthew was able to dodge the attack. With Matthew's current chameleon body, speeding up and turning left and right is not a problem, but moving sideways is quite a difficult feat for a quadruped animal, hence why he failed to dodge the sudden attack from his side.
Although the cut from the spider's attack is not too deep and it doesn't hit any of Matthew's vital organs, it is still deep enough that green blood started to seep out of the wound on Matthew's body. And the feeling of getting a decent part of his flesh being cut open is certainly not a nice feeling, especially for Matthew who used to live in a world where a paper cut is considered painful.
'Damn it! Why does it hurt so much from just a small wound.'
'This can't go on!' Matthew thought to himself.
Matthew racked his brains for another solution to his current situation. He thought about what he could do in his new chameleon body, then he looked at the spider to try and find what weakness the spider might have.
Matthew then remembered something amazing about his new body other than the fact that he can change his color, he got a special body part that only a chameleon has, and its power is so great that even he himself got startled when first seeing it. Matthew looked at the spider once again and noticed something that could possibly be the weakness of the spider in front of him.
Matthew already had a strategy in mind, but for now, he gritted his teeth and ignored the stinging pain on his side and took some distance away from the spider before circling to the spider side, hold out his leg firmly to the ground, and launched his sticky tongue to the base of one of the eight spider legs.
The whip-like tongue traveled rapidly and accurately hit the target, which is the base of one of the back legs of the spider. After making sure that his tongue is sticking tightly to the leg, Matthew used all the muscles in his mouth and yanked his tongue back to him as hard as he could. And the result did not disappoint him.
The thin spider legs are quickly torn out from the spider's body and blue blood gushes out of the part where its leg was. The torn leg then was taken back along with Matthew's sticky tongue to his mouth, but Matthew now has another slight problem to deal with.
'WAIT, HOW DO I TURN OFF THE STICKY PART?!'
Back then, what hit his head when this sort of thing happened is a small blunt pebble, but this time, what's coming to him at a breakneck speed is the thin and sharp spider leg that can surely put a hole through Matthew's face if it ever hit Matthew's face with its current speed it's traveling.
Matthew then remembered that the pebble came off when he was startled from being hit by it, Matthew then tried his best to recreate the feeling when the pebble came off from his tongue because now his life literally depends on it.
Matthew closed his eyes and shouted aloud in his mind, 'Please come off, please come off, please come off!' Matthew then felt the feeling of something sticking to his tongue gone, and when he opened his eyes again, his tongue was already back again in his mouth and he could feel no holes appeared on his face.
'I did it!'
While Matthew is celebrating in his mind, a contrast can be seen from the spider which screeched loudly again because one of its legs was just forcefully pulled out from its body. Realizing that his strategy just succeeded, Matthew made an evil laugh in his mind and looked at the spider smugly before saying in his mind.
'Here I come, my tasty dinner!'
Matthew did the same thing, circling the spider and pulling out its remaining 7 legs one by one until the spider only had its main body lying lifelessly on the ground. To end the spider off, Matthew decided to take his revenge from having his side opened up by one of the spider's legs. Matthew, now aware of his tongue strength, opened his mouth and very cautiously and slowly pulled out his tongue, sticking it to one of the spider's torn legs. After that, he raised up his tongue along with the sharp thin leg, and swung it downward as hard as he could to the spider's head, simultaneously ending its suffering.
Along with the spider's death, Matthew heard the machine-like voice again in his mind
-Level 2 Common Wandering Spider Killed-
-Congratulations, you've reached Level 2-
-Since the host has additional abilities, please consume the spider's body to enable the additional abilities-
'So this is the level that God was talking about earlier, I wonder what level I have to reach to be able to evolve. And the additional abilities mentioned should be the ability to change my body parts when I evolve right?' Matthew pondered about these things for a while before he said in his mind,
'By the way, I'm awesome, aren't I! I just defeated a creature one level higher than me and got an instant level up!'
After celebrating and patting himself in the back, Matthew finally got out of his mind bubble and came back to reality. His side wound from the fight earlier are still open, luckily the green blood already stopped flowing out from it. But the more pressing matter for him right now is his hunger. With the adrenaline from the fight completely gone and with an additional wound in his body, his body really needed the nutrition it lacked in the first place.
Matthew then looked at the dead spider corpse right beside him.
'To be honest, this does not look appetizing at all, I thought being a chameleon would change my preference on food, but yes, this spider still does not look appetizing in the slightest.'
Matthew began to contemplate if he really should eat the spider in front of him, but his rumbling stomach couldn't keep quiet, and he felt that he could pass out any second if he didn't eat anything. So once again, Matthew steeled his nerves and decided to go in and just eat the thing, no matter if it was delicious or not.
'Oh, God above the sky or anywhere you are, I pray to you to please give this spider flesh a pepperoni pizza flavor!'
