Finding that foreign entity attached to Rein's soul could only mean one of two things.
Either the chamberlain had recently gotten betrothed or someone had pledged their absolute loyalty to him.
When vampires pledged their love and loyalty to another person, they would give a portion of their soul to their beloved which could be used as a symbol of professing their love for the other person.
Likewise, when two people had a superior-subordinate relationship between them, the same technique could be used by the subordinate to display their loyalty to whoever their superior was.
However, the traces for both of these methods would be distinct and one could make out which of the two had been used.
Though in this situation, neither of the two outcomes made sense to the King who was leering at Rein without even bothering to blink.
