Chereads / Tricking The Vampire King / Chapter 65 - Reina's Decisions

Chapter 65 - Reina's Decisions

In no time, Reina's long silver hair was braided skillfully and she tied the loose ends with the same ribbon as her predecessor often used.

Staring at the mirror, she assessed her appearance to make sure that her facial features had transformed into a more manly version.

Reina had tried out a few hairstyles by now and had noticed something vital about the appearance of her face.

Her features were manlier when all of her hair was tied tightly and closer to her head whereas, the extent of the magic's efficacy would diminish when the ribbon was loosely tied around lesser hair.

Now that she had tied the ribbon at the ends of her silver hair, her features were somewhere between masculine and feminine.

They did not lean in any particular direction which was alright with her.

Thus, satisfied with what she had come up with, Reina gazed at herself one last time before walking out of the room.

Her headache might have subsided after the shower but her stomach was still protesting in hunger.

To appease the grumbling beast within her, she decided to head out and find something that she could eat.

She did not forget to carry one more item with her which she would need after she ate enough to calm her hungry stomach.

Now, with a water bottle in her hands, Reina raised her feet and stepped in the direction of the kitchen first.

The dining hall of the servants was next to the kitchen and everyone who worked here would often sit there and eat while conversing with their friends.

However, Rein was never included in that list as she had been ostracized by most of the servants here.

The pitiful chamberlain would either eat alone or bring her meals back to her room.

It was a good thing that her meals weren't compromised as the man in charge of the Royal Kitchen was not someone who mistreated the people he fed.

Except for the King and the three Queen candidates, the rest staying within the Palace received the same treatment from him.

'At least he was sensible.' Reina snorted as she passed the numerous guards standing on either side of the corridor who pretended to not have seen her.

She was already aware of how her predecessor was treated, as though she was air but Reina did not waste too much time obsessing over it.

In the past, Rein would have walked through these same halls with her head lowered as she did not like seeing their scornful gazes aimed at her.

However, Reina did nothing of that sort today, instead, she raised her brow at one maid who harrumphed upon encountering her along the way.

Looking at the maid from top to bottom, Reina sneered before passing her by, which was unlike what her predecessor would have done in the past.

Reina was never a timid child but certain incidents in her past life had caused her to abhor flying in a plane and loathe the very idea of stepping out of her house.

However, in this new world, possessing this new body, she had chosen to overcome those fears.

There were no planes in this world and she was in no position to disobey the King's command to remain in her room all day long.

Thus she knew that she had to work with the cards that she had been dealt.

Her predecessor was also scorned by her coworkers, just like she had.

Therefore, Reina decided that she would no longer let them push her down.

She would stand up, both for her sake and for Rein's, who had lost her life due to the schemes of the people in this Palace.

With this determination, she had not behaved as Rein would have in the past but used this opportunity to display that things would be different from now on.

The maid along with the guards in that area were stunned to see the change in the usually timid chamberlain who would frantically try to escape.

They watched as Rein Melk strode away and only after he disappeared from their sight did they return to her senses.

"Why did he look so good when he sneered at me?" The maid muttered to herself while touching her reddening cheeks.

The few men who were guarding that corridor gazed at the maid with a strange look in their eyes.

'He sneered at you but you liked it?' They had similar thoughts in their minds.

However, men and women could have different preferences and by looks of it, this maid enjoyed being sneered at so they could only shake their heads at her odd choices.

Initially, when Rein had entered the Palace with the King to serve him like any other servants, his stunning appearance had garnered too much attention.

This attention soon turned into contempt once they discovered his reluctance to get acquainted with them.

They assumed that Rein was too haughty after being brought in by the King and thus wasn't bothered to be on good terms with the rest of the lower servants here.

After a first few attempts to get closer to the new servant, they began disliking that young vampire more and more.

However, Rein was oblivious that she had offended these people and focused on her job of serving the King to the best of her abilities.

Soon, she began to climb the ranks in a short period due to her strict work ethic and also her perseverance which the King had been observing all along.

While most were unimpressed with the newly appointed chamberlain, his bullying had gotten especially worse after the appearance of the three queen candidates.

The aide, Treegan Molt had always been annoyed with Rein but the servants did not dare to take actions in their own hands and had only been ignoring him.

However, when the Queen candidates appeared, they had brought their maids along.

These maids had worked wonders in turning the rest of the employees in the Palace against Rein as though they were on a mission to ostracize him.

One of these ladies would soon become their Queen so the servants did not dare to remain passive but acted in accordance with what they believed to be those candidates' wishes.

Though what the King had done to one of the maids of Lady Marin Zolvak made them remember who their true master was.

Since King Zander had never tormented Rein, even appointed him as his personal aide, they were now wary of what would happen to them.

Their King had never meddled in the affairs of the servants until now but the maid who was punished for trying to poison Rein had shaken their beliefs that they too would be safe after bullying him.

They wanted to get on the good side of the Queen candidates but at the same time, did not wish to lose the favor of their Master.

After learning that the King had disintegrated Lady Marin's maid as punishment made them wonder if they would also experience the same ending if they went against him now.

Thus, the guards and that maid who had just met Rein Melk for the first time after the poisoning incident had vowed to stay vigilant and not act as they pleased for a while.
