Chapter 61 - Rein's Possessions

'Three?'

Reina stared at the contents of the box, already aware of what she would find inside that box.

However, the quantity of the items in there had thrown her off as it was most definitely higher than what she had anticipated.

Placing the box on her lap, she picked up the three items.

With a sleek appearance and a smooth surface with ridges found at certain places, Reina observed them in silence.

She arranged the three on the bed before scanning each one separately.

These three items were cards similar to the debit or credit cards that she was used to seeing in her previous life.

Thanks to Rein's memories emerging in her brain at constant intervals from when she had entered this world, Reina was aware that the banking sector here was quite identical.

However, there were a few changes, based on the currency used here and also the hierarchy followed in the Kingdom of Valanthur.

For example, bank cards were classified based on the minimum balance they could maintain each month.

The commoners of this Kingdom could possess the lower cards while the nobles and royalty were privy to owning the upper cards.

Brown, red, blue were assigned to the lower class cards and the difference in each was according to the minimum balance they could maintain at all times.

In the same way, gold, platinum, and diamond were allocated to those in the upper echelon of their Kingdom with diamond being the highest card one could possess.

To bridge the massive distance between the two classes was the silver card that was situated somewhere between the two.

Right now, on Reina's bed were two cards that were a part of this hierarchy.

The first card to her right was the silver card which was neither an upper nor a lower card.

The 'middle class' card was how it had been marketed to the citizens of this Kingdom.

Next to the silver card was a blue card which was the highest in the ranks of the commoner cards.

Finally came the one to the extreme left which had no place in the hierarchy she had learned a few moments ago thanks to the triggered memories.

This card was also the surprise that she had not expected to find in that box and hence had zero information about it.

Picking it up, she ran her fingers over it, feeling the engraving made on it.

A single letter was engraved upon it in an elegant font to which she had instantly taken a liking.

Unlike the blue and the silver bank cards which had the name 'Rein Melk' engraved on them to prove who it belonged to, this black card had nothing to reveal its ownership.

{M}

The letter was carved using a beautiful font in a sparkling silver color which contrasted against the pure black surface of the card.

Hoping to find some indication that might help her identify what the card could be for, Reina flipped it around but found nothing there as well.

The front had a single 'M' on it while the back was a clean surface, making it impossible for her to discern what its purpose could be.

There was nothing that could help her identify what it was but that wasn't even the worst part.

'Why won't these memories pop up!?' She groaned as no matter how hard she tried, nothing related to this card was being triggered.

Forcing it out might induce that terrifying headache that she did not wish to experience right now so all she could do was give up for the moment.

However, she had an inkling that this card meant something to her predecessor.

If that wasn't true then Rein would not have stored this simple card in the same box as those valuable bank cards.

'What could the 'M' stand for?' She wondered, trying to trigger a memory one last time but failed once again.

Therefore, she sighed and let it be, for now, deciding to focus on the other two bank cards.

Just looking at them had brought more memories to her mind which eased her frown for having failed earlier.

Thanks to these memories, she now knew that the currency used in the Valanthur Kingdom was called Valans.

The denominations of the money used here were also now stored in her mind, making things easier for her to grasp.

A hundred valans was one copper while a hundred coppers were equivalent to one silver.

Fifty silvers became one gold and finally, a hundred golds would be equal to one banknote.

The banknote was the highest value of the currency in the Kingdom with Valans being the least.

The cards mentioned earlier were classified based on the minimum amount they could maintain at all times.

While one could always upgrade from a lower card to a higher one, they needed to maintain their position in that level or else would be downgraded at the end of the year again.

The citizens of Valanthur paid close attention to these cards and the color of the card would reveal their status and prestige in the society.

Just a few coppers were enough for a family of three to survive for a week.

Therefore, the higher the money they possessed, the better their status in the society was.

According to what she had just understood, the color of these cards was a status symbol for the people here.

It gave the youngsters boasting rights if they had a higher color from the upper cards.

However, for someone like Reina who lived a life of luxury in her previous world, she did not care too much about this.

She had learned it the hard way that revealing that you have money wasn't always a good thing.

After all, wasn't she scorned and tossed aside because people assumed that since she came from money, she wasn't as serious at her job when compared to the rest?

For this reason, she did not care about the status they were so bothered about and was more interested to know how much money she actually had in those two bank cards.

Being a silent rich person was what she aimed to be in this life rather than gaining attention and being scorned for having money.

Nodding in approval of her future plans, Reina fixed her eyes on the first card she had now picked up.
