The day after Raymond and Nigel shook hands was the start of something unimaginable. Despite still being shunned by the villagers, Raymond decided to stay by Nigel's side as he tries to figure out what made Nigel become friends with him. It became evident later on why that was.
Using Raymond's anger towards the villagers, Nigel allowed Raymond to kill anyone who crossed a line and blame it on the wild animals in the forest, reducing the number of people who saw Raymond as a monster. However, on top of that, Nigel was also trying to help Raymond figure out how to control his powers. By the time Raymond turned sixteen, he was able to fully control his powers and has already started helping the village by taking away the winter when it was time to get warm.
