Chapter 20 - Hot Diggerty

The nonchalant Sofia looked behind at the figure. She nearly got a fright when she saw the lord standing behind her with his eyes glued to her work.

"Thanks!" Sofia replied with an awkward smile.

Kent nodded his head. Then he took a glance over the other students in class and noticed most, if not all, students have finished copying down the phrases written on the board.

Though the various gazes that were sent in Kent's way did make him a bit uncomfortable. He coughed a few times before returning to the front of the class.

"Student, this has an excellent class by far. As of now, you all know how to write short phrases that are widely used."

Kent stood before the class, and he pointed to the wall-hung parchment paper. "These phrases all share similarities as they share root words with another to have an alternate meaning."

"Now, for homework this week to keep your brains working. I want you to work out how to write the word meaning {see you tomorrow}."

All the students scratched their heads when they heard of this. How could they spell the word when they had no clue on how to write it?

Seeing all the dumbfounded looks on the children. Kent couldn't help but give them a bit of a helping hand. "As a small hint, the word can be assembled with the current phrases you noted down."

Kent clasped his hand and spoke in a joyous tone. "This concludes the end of class. You may all leave now. Also, please remember to take your parchment paper, quill pen, and ink cartridge home. They are yours to keep."

Kent ended the class and progressed to leave the classroom. But to his surprise, none of the students left the classroom. Instead, the students were all scratching their heads and glued on their paper. They were already trying to solve the homework.

This was quite the difference from the students from his old world. Kent could still remember how some of his friends couldn't wait to leave their boring classes due to their indifference to studying.

What a difference in attitude between the two worlds. Perhaps because there is a wide availability of education, people treat it as a norm. They become used to what is a rare thing that only privileged people could experience.

If Kent had to point out one thing that people in this world Monia have; it's their determination, diligence, and dedication to everything they do. This is what differentiates this world from Kent's original world.

"A future awaits those who are hardworking" Kent murmured under his breath.

Kent exited the Hestanar School. He got on his fine mount, and with a whip, the horse was off.

With a dozen guards surrounding Kent, the lord was making sure it would drive away any ill intent. The encounter with the elven rogue was still quite fresh in his mind. It serves as a constant reminder about the importance of him being careful.

The small group travelled through the city of Hestanar, heading towards the next location on Kent's agenda. Yes, straight after Kent finished teaching a class, he still had to fulfil his duties as a lord.

Kent could bet he was the only person in this world that works as both a teacher and a noble. You must know, teaching was quite a lucrative job.

You could see why Kent is constantly tired these days; not only must he teach all 4 subjects weekly, but he must also plan each of the subjects in detail over the entire curriculum. Then after that, Kent still must work as a city lord taking over many managerial roles.

As Kent rode his horse through the main boulevard, citizens of Hestanar waved at him, some even cheered his name as he passed by, congratulating him. Seeing this, the lord returned a small smile, waving back at those who greeted him in such a manner.

There is a qualitative shift in the general perspective towards Kent, something which he is quite welcome of. But this wasn't too out of reasoning, Kent did provide free education for them. Though only a few of the passersby treated Kent this way.

The majority of citizens only nodded and bowed their head in respect.

The city lord wondered which day would he be able to hear cheers and wild reveres of his name. What a picture would that be.

After travelling through a few more blocks along the open boulevard, Kent took a sharp right, travelling on the main road that connected the Westway Gate and The Port.

The road extended from the port gate to Westway is often where business strived. Due to its excellent location for human traffic, it's a prime location for all businesses to set up their shop fronts. There were many shops set up along both sides of the street; taverns, inns, blacksmiths, stores, wineries, you name them.

This is famous street of Hestanar, the street that bled life and kept the economy alive – Crafter's Street

But today, Kent was eyeing up one shop in particular – a shop with the name 'Hot Diggerty!'

Kent tried not to cringe at the shop name, but after consulting several people that lived in Hestanar, they all confirmed that if you need the help of a craftsman, this shop was the one you go to.

Kent gestured the guards to remain outside, before entering 'Hot Diggerty!' alone.

A bell rang when Kent opened the door. What welcomed Kent's view was a dark interior. Oakwood planks are layered neatly from the store entrance to the front counter. Arrangements of many products were set on display, ranging from fine metal armour to spears and axes.

"Gimme a minute!" A voice shouted from the back of the store.

Kent acknowledged this. It seem's the shopkeeper is busy doing his work. But in the meantime to satisfy his curiosity, Kent went around the display section of the store. The lord wanted to inspect every inch of this shop.

As a transmigrator, only in his dreams could he come close to these fantastical buildings. He wouldn't turn down to the opportunity to experience shopping in a fantasy shop.

Kent glanced at the various displayed items, in the shop. They were all fine works of art, but one thing caught his eye in particular.

The lord moved closed and inspected the full suite of metal armour displayed on a wooden mannequin.

The armour had intricate trims of golden strips embedded all over the metal plating. The metal platings shielded all major parts of the human body. But underneath the metal layer, sky blue paddings covered the crucial movement joints.

On the right shoulder piece, the carving of a majestic lion's face could be seen growling ferociously at mother nature. And to round off the armour, the headpiece had Valhalla elements in its design. It covered the entire human head, not leaving a single gap. On top, a single blue plume extended from the top of the helmet down to shoulder length.

If Kent had to describe the armour with one word, it would be 'majestic'. The armour looked impressive above all he had seen. Even those concept arts Kent had seen on Google images can't compare to this.

Kent didn't know if his opinion was only due to his lack of general understanding of the world's smithing ability. This was the only blacksmith he had visited. But still, he was full of admiration for this smithy's ability in the art of crafting.

"If you stare at my gorgeous any longer, I swear you'll take her away from me." A voice spoke half-jokingly.
