The Spirit around Farah was her mother who had died of a sickness over 6 years ago. Farah's mother was a doting mother, perhaps one that was far too doting for her own good. Because the connection between the mother and daughter was so good, Farah had taken care of her mother until the end of her life, with no success in saving her.
There may have been ways to save her, had they only been richer, but living in the village, that was not something they had.
Farah's father had apparently died very early on in her life, so when her mother died, she was left all alone.
