Chapter 1 - Discovery & Entry (COTE)

It was in January 8, 2016 that I discovered this website that seemingly told tales of the future. The events, the locations and the people in it, all laid bare for me to witness.

It was a normal day, well not quite since I had just graduated from middle school and now I don't have any 'school' to go to, at least for now.

My mother was unsatisfied with my final grades. I got straight B's and while it was enough to pass, she was still unsatisfied.

She isn't usually like this, she seems more infuriated by my grades than in the past. I'm not sure if it was my grades or my recent attitude that infuriated her so much, probably the latter.

Because she, unknowingly to me, applied me for the top school in the whole city. Advanced Nurturing High School, a school established by the Japanese government to nurture the young people who will support the country in the future. It boasts a 100% employment and college entry rate, and with thorough, state-directed teaching methods.

A school desired by almost every parent for their child to enroll at. While this isn't the first time my mother has talked about going to ANHS, but everytime she talked about me enrolling there I always tell her 'It's too advanced for me' to which she replies with 'You'll never know if you don't try it'

And after thinking about it, she was right, I won't know if I don't try it, besides what's gonna happen to me if I don't make it.

I doubt anyone would get mad, hell, I don't even think my mom has faith in me passing which I have no intention of proving her wrong.

But, that's before I had discovered 'that'. While I was on my bed, I was bored so I went to a website that takes you to random websites across the internet.

But after about half an hour or so, I found a wiki fandom website, more specifically the YOU-ZITSU WIKI.

(*Note: a wiki fandom is a database for anything, in this case COTE.)

I thought it was just about some sort of underground light novel, but after 3 minutes of looking around I recognised two things. First, was that this "story" - as I had thought of at the time - takes place in ANHS, but I had thought nothing of it.

Real life locations in fictional stories were nothing uncommon, however the second thing I noticed and the one that I find quite odd, was Kei Karuizawa. Going into the Character category, which was easily accessible, the second profile was of her.

Karuizawa-san was someone who attended at the same middle school as I, while we weren't in the same class we were in the same year. And I had only known of her because I saw her being bullied behind the school.

If i hadn't seen that, I probably wouldn't have noticed this or even known of her existence. I only keep track of the people in my class and the few friends I had in different classes.

She looked exactly how I remembered, albeit more anime styled. Yellow ponytail and a cute face. After reading more about her backstory, I was more convinced this isn't just fiction and while I didn't know her that much I knew one thing of her, which was her being bullied.

'Why is a real person on here, much less a drawing of them.' I questioned

I then saved the website, went to my computer, and googled the rest of the characters that were shown. Most of the results were their social media accounts and even one was the heir of some sort of corporation.

I even searched the name of the source of information, the wiki was storing, YOU-ZITSU, and what shows up is the wikipedia article for jujutsu. So I searched using the full name, Yōkoso Jitsuryoku Shijō Shugi no Kyōshitsu, still nothing.

So I gave up, I've seen enough evidence to suspect that it's real and I should treat it as such, so I focused on going through the website itself. After a while this is a summary of what I found.

1) It is in fact, a light novel. A light novel that has both a manga and an anime adaptation.

2) The website has each of the volumes, the chapters and the contents of it, and while it was only a summary it was more that enough.

3) It has extreme details of the rules I need to look out for and even the curriculum of the school. Though I was quite disappointed that it doesn't have the entrance exams.

4) A nearly complete profile of nearly everyone, Including their personality, backstory, abilities, hell even the girl's three measurements are there.

5) I was not in it.

The fact that I wasn't registered there makes sense. Since this website seems to be not of this world, I, in the original You-Zitsu world, wouldn't have gotten this and I wouldn't have the motivation to actually pass the entrance exam and therefore not enroll at this school.

'But now is gonna be different' I decided.

'Cause with this, I might have a chance of actually succeeding in life, but first I'll need to actually be able to enroll'

This knowledge that I have found will be useless if I couldn't attend the school. So I focused all of my time to studying, using all the mnemonic techniques that I could find and utilize.

And with eidetic memory, it should make it easier. And then, 13 days later, and the entrance exams have started. Arriving via the bus, I arrived at ANHS.

To be able to participate in this exam, you'll have to sign up on an online forum, after completing it you'll be given a string of 6 numbers, you tell that number to a register, they'll tell you the class you'll be attending at for this exam and then you'll have to sit there and wait for the exam to start.

The place was packed with people who wanted to attend the school, obviously. I looked around to see if I could recognize any of the characters, however it was hard since real life and drawings look very different, even if I stalked their social media a bit.

Almost every one of them were trying to squeeze every bit of knowledge into their heads, by reading books, their notes, discussing with friends, etc.

Going to one of the registers, to tell them my code, I was met with a huge-ass line. I picked the shortest looking line, stood there and waited for my turn.

After over an hour, It was my turn. I tell them the code I got from the forum and they gave me an ID card with my name and class for this exam.

I headed for my class and upon arriving I see that less than half of the seats are occupied, and after scanning across the room I saw someone that I think is Airi Sakura. I wasn't sure of it then, but I do now.

Half an hour later and the exam has started. The person assigned to watch us, gave us the paper exam questions.

There was 100 questions compiled of Mathematics, Social Studies, Japanese, Science, and English divided equally. We had 40 minutes to complete it.

This is extremely important, not because it would decide if I get in or not, it's important because if I do get in, it would decide what class I'd be in.

I was aiming for Class-D, not because that's the protagonists class but because I don't want to be in Class-C.

While I could try to shoot for Class-B, I was afraid I'd miss and land in Class-C. So I was really nervous answering the question too seriously and getting a high enough score to land in C but not enough to land in B.

So to combat that, made sure to have a "defect", in the upcoming interview, to up my chances of not getting into C even if it lowers my chances of going into B.

I decided my defect will be "unwillingness to take risks". Hopefully.

"40 minute, times up!" The guy assigned to us, announced.

After 40 minutes, we were to stop what we're doing and leave. No need to say, the questions were difficult. Calling it AP level would be an understatement.

The results will be announced through the email that was submitted in the online forum, 6 days later, those who got in will be getting their uniform delivered and a day after that will be when school starts, which is January 28.

Leaving the classroom, I see, what looks to be, Mr Protagonist and Mrs Heroin leaving the same classroom just down the hall.

After the exam comes the interview. Six random students will be called in and asked more personal questions. I made sure to point out my defect to get a spot in Class-D.

We were each asked 10 questions and it lasted just 20 minutes.

After that, I went home, again, via the bus and immediately jumped on my bed and read the Guideline, which is what I'll be calling this website

I had hoped to build relations with at least one of the characters in the entrance exam, but I didn't get the chance to.
