Chapter 9 - Chapter seven.

This is bad, this is really bad!- How did she of all persons know I was here? And what did she mean by her hideout?

"Come-on Jake I really don't have all night, thought the sound of that is quite lovely in itself don't you agree?"

I didn't answer, I mean she killed someone right? What would stop her from offing me? Fresh perspiration rolled from my forehead.

Damn!

Just how could this have happened? That's when a thought crossed my mind...

001...

Did she do this?

-No it couldn't be,- I thought... -but who else knew I was here?-

No-one...

But... But... That can't be... I trusted her, so she wouldn't do this!

"Jake honey," she stated in more of a monotone-like voice his time, "I love you, I really do but, if your thinking of standing against me or the rebellion then I'll have no other choice but to terminate you."

Rebellion?

Wait... The recent bombings, were her doing? The incidents seemed small but they all classified as acts of terrorism. Even though they didn't make the news they were all over the message boards online.

If that's true then, I may be able to use this situation. But if I made a mistake it'd probably mean the end of me.

I started a subprogram on my

Neuro-link.

I took a deep breath and mustered all my courage.

"You idiot!" I stated strongly but not so loud that I'd be shouting, all the while typing messages using my retina display and broadcasting them on the warehouse's wireless system . "Why did you come?"

"Excuse me?" She asked "the last time I checked, this building was in the name of one of my aliases."

"Exactly!" I responded "look, we're being watched and I can't have my sponsors thinking we actually have a relationship. Behind you in the upper right corner of the building there's a micro cam - don't look!"

"Ok, I'm waiting for an explanation." She replied in that monotone and expressionless voice.

"They don't think I have any actual ties to you so they sent me here to prove it." I swallowed, this is where it gets dangerous. "I'm all for the rebellion, but my sponsors don't know that, that's why I was gonna lace this place with compact explosives when you guys weren't here and warn you before detonating so it'd seem like I'm on their side."

"What kind of game are you playing?" She asked "you think you'd get away with destroying my stuff?"

"I've already prepared a better base of operations and backed up the data here, for you. So you don't have to worry about it. But you have to do what I say or we'll have to deal with their private army." I replied.

"You say that but you don't have any proof." She stated.

"I do." I answered confidently "I've been working on something called material high that corrupts all security protocol of all devices on any given server and creates multiple backdoor sub-programs before repairing the network without triggering security programs."

A lie...

"I'm sure you'd like to get your hands on it."

She laughed a little.

"Ok, but just know that if you're pulling my leg, ill lake you suffer, one family member at a time."

She laughed again.

"Ok baby what do you want me to do?"

I was sweating hard, the taste of mild salt, wet my lips through the beads of liquid that rolled from my forehead.

"Tell your guys to shoot to the left and right of this mech, and then back out slowly and make your escape, I can't afford to get shot." I connected my neuro-link to the micro cam to see if they were buying my lie.

At first no-one moved, then slowly ginger gave the gesture signal and sure enough bullets tore at the walls to the left and right of the mech. The sound was louder than I'd expected and concrete with wood splintered around me, I flinched with every explosion as i covered my face and crouched. Hoping that I wouldn't get shot.

Soon it stopped and there was a loud silence, exempt the sound of my beating of my heart.

Was she gone?

Did it work?

.................................

What is Ginger's real identity?
