With the campfire dying, everyone slowly began to fall asleep.
Luna lay awake, hearing the various sounds of sleep around her. She stared at the dark sky filled with twinkling stars and sighed. Since hearing Fenrir's story, something caused a stir in her chest. An unknown connection that she did not know was possible until hearing about Zyfindia. The princess got up and sat at the valleys edge, looking over the dragon's form.
Suddenly she felt a pull in her chest, exactly like the ones before calling her to her new friends. This time, it was calling her to Zyfindia. Looking back at the camp, she watched momentarily to ensure everyone was sound asleep.
Slowly and carefully, she made her way back into the valley. The pull became stronger. Giving Luna more reassurance, this is what was calling her.
"Go to the head" a soft voice whispered
Luna whipped her frame around, looking for the source of the voice. Her heart raced, unable to identify where the voice came from.
"Go to the head." It repeated, and Luna looked back at Zyfindias remains. The voice must be guiding her. She walked through the large ribcage, and under the right wing. There she could see the large head of the dragon.
Its eyes were eerily hollow, and its mouth wide open, showing off the still razor-sharp teeth. The more Luna looked at it, the more she swore it could breathe fire at any moment. Her chest felt like the pressure had been released being so close to Zyfindia.
"Touch the skull," the voice instructed the Princess.
Trusting the voice, Luna reached forward and touched where the nose would be. All Luna could see was a blinding bright light. She felt as if she was falling.
She looked around and saw a forest below her. Luna braced herself for the fall, but she was caught!
Slowly opening her eyes, Luna saw a dark figure with glowing white eyes looking at her. Frightened, Luna tried to escape the shadow's grasp but was quickly put down.
"Be calm, Luna." The Shadow said as Luna paused.
That voice? It was the one she heard whispering.
"Who are you? How do you know my name?" Luna questioned as the shadow shook its form to reveal a giant dragon. Its scales were dark blue, like the night sky, and the eyes glowed as bright as the moon on a calm summer night. The dragon sat down and curled its tail around its feet.
"You don't recognize me?" She said softly as her form shifted back to the skeleton Luna previously touched
"Zyfindia?" Luna questioned as the dragon gave a short laugh
"Yes, my warrior. You have many questions," she stated as Luna sat on the ground
"I do. Many, but first, where are we?" The Princess asked, looking around. It looked familiar, but she couldn't figure out why.
"You are in my memory. This was your home before my sister had shaped it. I brought you here to bring comfort. I am sorry if I have startled you. But we must speak," Zyfindia explained as Luna looked up at the dragon
"What is it?" She asked,
"My Luna, the righteous leader I know you can be, you deserve to know more about the foes you face." Zyfindia says as she waves her claw, and the world around them turns into a battle. Luna could see Zyfindia fighting the dark storm.
"These shadows have plagued the land for centuries. When I banished them, I thought it was the last, so I laid to rest." She says as they watch her form fall into the valley.
"However, I was wrong about this. They only evolve into something more gruesome." the dragon growled
"I wished to secure the safety of my mother's dream and so I created six spirits to roam the land and plant themselves into individuals who are worthy of the powers for my sisters and I." Zyfindia said
"You said six spirits, but there is only one left from the prophecy" Luna said as Zyfindias eyes softened at her
"That is because whoever has my spirit will sacrifice themselves to save everyone," Zyfindia revealed as Luna looked at her with widened eyes.
"But who?!" Luna asked, fearing the answer.
Zyfindia paused and waved her claw again. They were back to the calm forests of Ceol again.
"My spirit resides in you, my dear Luna." Zyfindia's demeanor saddened to say those words.
"...Me?" Luna asked as Zyfindia nodded
"I cannot control my spirit. My mother's last gift to us. The spirit senses your protection of others and planted itself in you when you were young-" Zyfindia stopped and looked around. A dark storm started to creep up on them.
"Our time must be cut short. Protect my sister's spirits. Don't fail like I did." Her last words, a bright light engulfed Luna.
"Protect them!" Zyfindia cried out as Luna fell back.
She looked around and saw the sun was starting to rise. She quickly ran back through the valley and to the camp. Thankfully, no one had woken yet.
Laying back on her cot, Luna took in Zyfindia's last words
'Don't fail like I did…Protect them!'
She wanted Luna to keep her Mother's promise. To ensure her sister's spirits were safe. Luna rolled over and made a silent promise to the dragon,
'I will protect them. I won't fail you, Zyfindia' Luna promised as the sun broke the horizon.
