Chapter 14 - The Battle at Yan Province Part 4

After securing the other side of the river bank. I took command of the entire cavalry regiment available in the eastern Region for an all out assault of the enemies main HQ or main camp.

Turns out the best enemy had stationed their HQ further away from the two battlefields. However it's situated closer to the main battlefield at the plains. They focused their entire force and reserves on the main battlefield.

After riding out with a unit of 600 cavalry. We directly went to the enemies main camp and not before long. We saw it, we saw the flag of the enemies main HQ at the top of a small hill overlooking the plains.

However something feels odd. The enemy took almost no defensive position on the surrounding hills nor areas. Plus they didn't even reinforce their HQ with stakes, traps, or even any sort of towers nor wall made of wood.

It was just a simple camp in the middle of the hill top. It doesn't feel like a battlefield HQ at all. It seems more like a camping grounds.

We charged straight into their ranks. Cutting down enemies as we went through. However no significant resistance were mustered by the enemy.

I immediately went to the commanders tent. Only to figure out that there was no one in sight. I dismounted from my horse and started to look around for any sign of the enemy commander.

After searching for a while I've found nothing, not even a small shred of paper nor information regarding the position of the enemy commander.

It was as if he wasn't even there in the first place. Or simply have already anticipated my assault on the main camp so they abandoned it.

[[ Ding!!! ]]

[[ The Host has reached the enemies main HQ before the timer runs out ]]

[[ Host has triggered the hidden story line/ alternate timeline ]]

[[ Now the enemy commander haven't arrived yet at the battlefield ]]

[[ And thanks to the host killing Chen Gong in the siege, the enemy army is left without a commander, but not for long ]]

[[ Currently the enemies Supreme Commander is riding towards the Host current position, unaware of the Host presence ]]

[[ The mission : Prevent the enemy Supreme commander from joining the battlefield and turning the tide of battle ]]

[[ Should the Host succeeds in repelling the enemy commander, the battle at Yan province will result in a major victory for the host, the enemy will lose the majority of their troops, and sway the final battle in favour of the host ]]

[[ Current chances of the Host victory at the final battle is 20% ]]

[[ Failure to do so will cause the annihilation of the entire army, the death of the Supreme commander and the death of the host ]]

[[ Note : every battle the host has won the more the favours will turn towards the hosts victory ]]

" System a question why do we have to repel the enemy's Supreme Commander? "

" Couldn't we just kill him instead? "

[[ Reply : with the host current power and forces the chances of the host killing the enemy's supreme Commander is less than 5% ]]

" What!!! "

" How does that makes sense ? "

" I have 600 cavalry with me and I'm pretty powerful myself, why I couldn't just kill the enemy's supreme Commander? "

[[ Answer : the enemy's supreme Commander is a warrior without equal in this world and time ]]

[[ Chances are the host will be killed and the entire unit being wiped out before even reaching the enemy ]]

" What if I can't even reach the enemy, how am I supposed to keep him away from the battlefield? "

[[ Reply : That is for the host to find out ]]

I took a huge sigh and pick myself up to move forward. I have a little bit of time left before the enemy's supreme Commander arrives. I have to think of something quick before all of us are annihilated.

After a few failed attempts of repelling the enemy in the simulation I made. I needed to change the situation to my favour. But how I needed a significant number of force to repel the enemy's overwhelming power.

But how am I supposed to get that, I wonder. Then I realized that if the condition for victory is preventing the enemy's supreme Commander from linking up with his army and then victory will be ours. If we can't beat him in a battle of force then we must beat him in a battle of minds.

After setting up my plan I ordered messengers to be dispatched to the other armies to rally here. My plan was to take the armies that have finished their part of the battle to rally here so we can do an all out pincer movement on the enemies main force, and destroy them before the enemy's supreme Commander arrived.

However based on the time the system showed me we had less than 3 hours before the enemy's supreme Commander arrived. So we decided to split up and engage in different tasks.

I will lead 100 cavalry men to attack the enemies on the Western battlefield. Then take all of their troops to join up with the army from the eastern battlefield for a pincer attack at the main enemy army.

While the 500 other cavalry men will go directly to the fray and harass the enemies from behind. By charging at the rear of the enemy lines repeatedly. Until the enemy morals plummeted.

After the two armies rallied at the point we will charge towards the enemy rear with all our might. However there is a chance we might not make it in time. So after gathering the two army a detachment of 500 cavalry will be sent towards the enemy's supreme Commanders direction.

To stall for time. In this battle time is of the essence. As I ride for the western battlefield, I pondered to myself worrying that we will not make it in time. In all shroud of doubt, I can only do the best that I can and believe that I will succeed regardless of the conditions.
