Chapter 2 - Known by the enemy

"How do you know about my family anyway?"

"All your siblings applied for this school just like you but we rejected them. Because although they showed promise in their magical abilities, they had sinister intentions for the use of their powers. But they went and started a school for people just like them. "

"What were their intentions? I'm just curious."

"They used their powers for fame and fortune. Not to mention they're the whole reason our school is in hiding."

"How so?"

"When we rejected them, they immediately let the English know the whereabouts of our gracious school."

"So you plan to use my potion so that the English no longer know the whereabouts then?"

"Yes."

"I do think I must reject my enrollment then."

"Why?"

"Well, for one I don't understand why this school has to stay secret."

"The Grey Diamond Warriors founded this school."

"Which is important, why?'

"They are followers of Bradley Greenson endowed with the power to help protect people who have been possessed by the devil."

"So you want me to help people who claim they're the lord's people?"

"Yes. But they don't only claim it. They have records to prove it."

"But I thought possessions were considered supernatural."

"They are considered that by mortals but they are in fact real."

"Mortals? Don't tell me you believe in this nonsense."

"Nonsense? Excuse you, my people have been a thing since before the Salem witch trials."

"How does that prove that possessions aren't nonsense?"

"Well for one, my people descended from the knights of the roundtable."

"Wait, so you're telling me that King Arthur was a real person? I thought he was just fantasy."

"He was indeed real. Because all folklore holds truths embedded into it."

"So Merlin is real too then?"

"Of course. He was the first Grey Diamond Warrior."

"Damn, your people are ancient."

"Yes. But does it prove to you that we are indeed who we say we are?"

"Yes. But I still don't believe that possessions aren't supernatural in nature."

"You can't have it both ways. You can't follow people who believe something you don't. It's literally like lying to yourself ."

"But I'm not lying to myself. I just don't believe in possessions."

"What do I have to do to prove to you that you are wrong?"

"Show me a record of someone that you released from a possession."

"I don't believe that even if I had a record that you would change your state of mind."

"Try me."

"Alright then, your dad, David Monroe, believed that he was possessed because he realized that from a young age he had magical powers. Your dad David believed witchcraft was of the devil."

"Wait, you want me to believe that my dad was possessed and I come from possessed beings which proves that I'm destined to become possessed?"

"Yes and just like we released your dad from his possession, we will protect you from your fate."

"So I expect you'll be taking me to my room then."

"Yes. I will take you to your dorm but be quiet though since your roommate will most likely be sleeping."

We walked to my dorm surprisingly the light was on and my roommate was sitting at a desk studying or at least that what I thought she was doing because when Aldous left us alone, she made a cauldron appeared by snapping her fingers.

"What are you doing?"

"Studying!"

"So I suppose you're making a potion."

"Yes."

"Well, my name's Shimon."

"My name is Heidi. But don't bother me I'm trying to perfect a potion."

"What's it for if I may ask?"

"Well, I'm trying to create a new species. I'm hoping to be selected for MVDS."

"What's that?"

"Most Valuable Diamond Player."

"Okay. What sort of creature are you trying to create for it?"

"Miniature giants."

"Really? I thought giants were fables. But I'm intrigued. Why the interest in creating a small version of Giants?"

"I'm just trying to impress the founders."

"Really? Are they still alive?"

"Yes. Headmaster Aldous is their new leader."

"Oh. Did you know they've been around since King Arthur's time?"

"Really?"

"Yeah. Merlin was their first member."

"Oh okay. Well, the bar for the contest is set high I suppose."

"True. I mean, Merlin was a pretty famous wizard of his time."

"So what are you planning to do with the creatures after the contest?"

"If they are successfully created, I plan to use them to help protect the school from the invaders."

"Cool. I created a potion that can erase people's memories."

"Oh. Is it permanent?"

"No. It only lasts a fortnight."

"Hmmm, that must suck."

"Maybe. But it was the only reason I got into this school."

"Huh? Who did you use it on?

"Well, I first used it on my parents."

"Okay. What did you try to make them forget?"

"My first day of school."

"How old are you?"

"13."

"What school were they going to send you to then?

"Mazer 's school for junior knights and swordsmanship."

"Wow, what made you not want to be a swordsman?'

"My parents were forcing it on me because I wasn't showing much promise in the magical arts. Or at least that's what they thought before I made my potion and used it on them."

"They must've been mad when it wore off right?"

"They were both surprised and mad at the same time."

"Well, look at this way: if you didn't make the potion, you wouldn't be in this school."

"True. Very true."

"Anyway, we should get to bed. Tomorrow we will undergo a potions battle to see what form of potions we should specialize in."

"Why would that matter?"

"Like many magic schools, our school has a house system the only difference is that this system pins roommates against each other instead of pins houses against each other."

"So wait, we'll be fighting against each other? I thought this school was about unity."

"Well, I'm sorry, but it's not. Every past Hecticmaker and member of the Grey Diamond Warriors have had to specialize in different fields of potion-making to keep our people, the Cithians, and this school a secret."

"What do you mean?"

"Each member of the Grey Diamond Warriors was born in a time when being magical was unthought of."

"Really? Give me an example?"

"Well, I'll start with their founder, Merlin. If it wasn't for him King Arthur wouldn't have been such a noble king. Plus, the knights of the roundtable would've never been created if it weren't for his contributions to Arthur's upbringing."

"Merlin's student Arthur grew up to be a noble king because Merlin taught him it was more important to focus on one's knowledge and not on one's physical abilities."

"How so?"

"He took him on a lot of meaningful; journeys as different creatures to teach him different life lessons. "

"How so?"

"Well for one, when they turned into birds and he taught him it's more important to focus one's independence and journey to be a good person rather than to fight on issues that didn't involve him."

"True. It is important to focus on what makes you a good person and not whats wrong with other people. I'm all for the notion that you shouldn't but into other people's business but I have found that when we help people when they need us the most they become better individuals and all-around better people."

"True. When you are a good example to your friends as who they should be it helps them be better individuals and better people."

"I have one more question though."

"Shoot."

"Were the Knights of the Roundtable the first Grey Diamond Warriors?"

"Although they were thought to be, I don't agree with that theory."

"Why?"

"You will learn why in our theories surrounding the foundation of the Grey Diamond Warriors. If that's the class you want to take.

"Wait, you can choose your classes?"

"Yes. But once you choose your classes you can't change them."

"So do we choose our classes tomorrow?"

"Yes. So let's get some sleep so we choose our classes wisely."
