Chapter 1 - Excerpt:

Ava, Chairman Jeff Go's oldest daughter, recently donned her cap and gown and triumphantly walked across the stage to earn her college degree. Now, she can finally return home for the holidays, looking forward to much-needed rest and time with her family.

Little did she realize that her fiancée had been planning to publicly announce their imminent marriage, feeling the moment was ideal.

However, Ava had different intentions. She was determined to further her career and carve her path in life before settling down. She just wasn't ready to be tied down with a married life.

Feeling overwhelmed by the thought of being tied to society's standards, she felt she had to escape this predicament as soon as possible...As she packed her suitcase, she whispered to herself, "Do you think you can force me to marry that ***hole?" I'm not naive enough to hang around and wait for it to happen."

She began making preparations for her meticulously planned escape. Her only option was to use a no-name brand bag she had recently purchased. She couldn't use her suitcase because she needed to jump from the terrace to escape.

After double-checking that she had everything she needed, she carefully ensured the presence of her passport and a large sum of cash. She had taken out enough money to guarantee that her activities could not be monitored when she was gone.

After gathering the necessary items, she examined herself in the mirror to ensure that her disguise was faultless and that nothing seemed incorrect. She was determined that she would not be identified once she left.

She hurriedly made her way to the balcony, quick motions revealing her dread. As she clutched the handle, she slowly slid the door open, the hinges quiet as she looked outside.

Wary eyes swept the surroundings, looking for any indication of movement or presence. With a sigh of relief, she noticed that the coast was clear.

She took swift, purposeful steps down the balcony and burst into a run, the urgency of her escape driving her forward as if she were fleeing imminent death.

"God, I begged you, let me escape here without being caught. I can't marry that jerk," she prayed; she made a sign of the cross before rushing for the rear gates.

She surveyed the area ahead, ensuring that no guards were actively monitoring it and that no one was near her intended escape path.

She approached the gate cautiously, sometimes glancing to the left and right to check no one was there. Once she was sure that the coast was clear, Ava sped onward, and the knowledge that no one was around accelerated her speed even more.

She moved like a marathon runner, breathing in frantic gasps.

After what felt like an age, she approached the rear gate. She paused momentarily to regain her breath, realizing she was exhausted from her dash.

She turned around and stared at the big mansion behind her now that she was breathing easier. As tears welled up, she took a long breath to calm herself.

With teardrops about to fall from her beautiful angelic face, she whispered gently, "Farewell, my lovely family. I love you all, but I can't bring myself to marry that man, even if it means the death of me."

With that, she vanished into the darkness of the dreary night.
