Chapter 6 - Setting Off

The first light of dawn spilled through the ornate windows of Aero's chamber, casting a soft, golden hue across the room. Aero lay still for a moment, the weight of the journey pressing upon his heart like a tangible force. Today marked the beginning of a trial that would not only test his cultivation but also shape his future.

Rising from his bed, Aero dressed in simple but elegant robes. The fabric, woven with threads of starlight, shimmered subtly with each movement. He took a deep breath, trying to steady the whirlwind of emotions within him. Today, he was not just a cultivator of the Stormhaven clan; he was a son saying farewell to his mother for a prolonged period of time. As he made his way to the private dining hall, the palace was quiet, its usual bustle subdued by the early hour. The hall, a magnificent space adorned with celestial motifs and sweeping views of the cosmos, was serene in the morning light

Aria greeted him with a warm smile, her eyes reflecting both pride and a hint of concern. "Good morning little hopper" she said as he took his seat. "I hope you slept well."

"Good morning Mom" Aero replied, managing a smile. "I did, thank you."

Their breakfast was a spread of Aero's favorite dishes, a subtle attempt by Aria to provide comfort and normalcy. They conversed about various topics, artfully avoiding any mention of the trial. Aria recounted tales of her own youth, her adventures in different realms, and the mischiefs she and her siblings used to get into.

Aero listened, captivated. The stories served their purpose, easing his nerves, and reminding him of the life outside the pressures of cultivation.

"You've grown into a fine young man. It seems like only yesterday you were running through these halls, a child chasing behind his mother dress" Aria said, her voice laced with nostalgia.

Aero smiled, a bittersweet feeling washing over him. "Those days seem so far away now. I never imagined then that my path would lead me here."

Aria reached across the table, her hand resting gently on his. "You were always destined for great things. But no matter how far you go, or how high you climb, remember, you're always my son. That bond, it transcends time and distance."

Aeros felt a lump form in his throat. Her words, simple yet profound, anchored him amidst the tumultuous sea of his thoughts.

Aeros loved his mother dearly, from his first thoughts and first words, being "Mama". He'd never really had a father figure, who'd even dare to try to be a father figure to the son of Aria Stormhaven, the perception could be taken completely wrong. Though Aeros had his uncles whom he looked up to, and could ask for advice at will, it was completely different from a birth parent. His mother took both rolls in his heart and did so exceptionally well. She was stern when needed, caring when warranted and gave the unconditional love from one parent for both. He'd knew he wouldn't be able to spend his entire life under her umbrella of protection, but that didn't make separating any easier.

"I know, Mother. And I will always carry a part of home with me, no matter where I am" Aero said, his voice steady but full of emotion.

Aria smiled, though her eyes brimmed with unshed tears. "You have my strength and my heart, Aeros. I see so much of myself in you, yet you are your own person, with your own path to tread. From the day your little hands stole my heart, and your little feet ran away with it" she said with an elegant smile.

They finished eating in comfortable silence, the familiarity of the routine a small comfort against the backdrop of the unknown.

As they finished their meal, Aria stood and walked over to the window, her gaze once again lost in the stars. Aeros joined her, standing side by side, looking out into the vast empire.

"Remember, the true strength of a cultivator lies not in their power, but in their character," Aria said softly.

Aeros turned to her, his eyes reflecting the determination that had been growing within him. "I understand,"

Aria turned to him, her eyes searching his. "Promise me, that you will stay true to yourself. That you will not lose sight of who you are, amidst trials and tribulations."

"I promise, Mom. I will not forget who I am, nor where I come from," Aeros replied, his voice firm with resolve.

Aria embraced him, holding him close. "You have a heart that sees beyond the surface. A heart that feels deeply and loves sincerely. Never let the world change that." She said brushing her hands over his horns.

"Let us head out, your Mom will lead you."

As they made their way to the outskirts of the castle, they could sense the gathering crowd. Thousands of people from across the empire had come to see him off, their voices a growing murmur that filled the air with a palpable sense of excitement.

As Aero approached the designated spot, the crowd parted, offering him passage. The sight before him was awe-inspiring – a sea of faces, all turned towards him, expressions ranging from awe to curiosity, to reverence.

Serus stood at the edge of the clearing, his imposing figure a beacon of strength. He nodded at Aero as he approached. Next to Serus was Aeros master, Claudia.

Β "Ready to make history, nephew?" Serus asked, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

"As ready as I'll ever be, Uncle," Aero replied, trying to sound more confident than he felt.

Claudia, with her raven hair pulled back into an intricate braid and eyes that held the wisdom of her years, approached Aeros with a proud yet solemn expression. "Little Hopper" she greeted, her voice carrying the softness of a mentor who had watched her pupil grow.

"Master," Aeros replied with a respectful bow. "You didn't have to trouble yourself, coming here."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," she said, her eyes twinkling. "You're heading on a journey and we may not meet for years, you'll be a man when you return, and who knows how you'll treat this master of yours." She said with a smile.

Aeros laughed, "Master and disciple is an eternal bond, A master for a day is a master for a lifetime, I dare not lose my manners,"

Claudia smiled in acknowledgement. "Remember, cultivation is not just about power and conquest. It's about understanding the deeper truths of the cosmos and your place within it," she began. "You have a rare gift, not just in your talents, but in your heart and your perspective."

Aeros nodded, absorbing her words.

"Throughout your journey, you will encounter challenges that may shake your faith, not just in your abilities but in the path you've chosen. Stay true to your heart. Your kindness and empathy are just as powerful as any cultivation technique." She reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You have the potential to change the course of the world, to bring an era of understanding and compassion. Don't let the trials corrupt your heart. Be strong and courageous, be decisive when necessary, show empathy, but also show your fangs."

Aero felt a surge of gratitude for his mentor. "I will remember your teachings Master. Your guidance will always be a beacon for me."

Claudia smiled, her gaze shifting towards the horizon. The conversation was a calming balm to Aero's nerves. Her words reminded him of the lessons that went beyond the physical aspects of cultivation – the lessons about character, integrity, and the responsibility that came with power.

With a final exchange of a bow to Claudia, She embraced him affectionately. Letting go she made room for him to continue on but a sudden shift in the atmosphere caught everyone's attention.

A silence fell over the crowd as a portal opened in the void above them. From it, Orion Stormhaven, the patriarch of the clan and a being of near-mythical prowess, stepped through.

His arrival was not just a visual spectacle but a sensory experience. The air vibrated with the power of his presence, and for a moment, it felt as if time itself had paused to acknowledge him. In the Cosmic Unity realm, it's believed that cultivators could merge their consciousness with the universe. They understood the intricate connections between all things, allowing them to manipulate events on a grand scale. Deeper understanding over the mastery of time was achieved allowing the acceleration or slowing down of down on a grander scale encompassing worlds. Events could be manipulated in the general vicinity of a sector, which was a span of at least a hundred greater Worlds.

Aria and Syrus both gave their father a deep bow of respect. He smiled nodding, Orion was one who always doted on his Children. Orion's gaze swept over the crowd before settling on Aeros. Walking towards his grandson, each step resonated with the authority and wisdom of his age. The crowd watched in awe, many of them feeling the immense cultivation pressure even from a distance.

"Aeros," Orion's voice boomed, filled with a warmth that belied his formidable appearance. "Go forward with a steady stride; it is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult." His ever word vibrating with the surroundings. "You carry with you the hopes and aspirations of the of many, a lineage that has weathered the storms of time and emerged stronger with each trial. Your journey is a testament to the strength and resilience that runs deep within our veins."

Aeros stood before his grandfather, his head held high, his heart swelling with pride and his sense of duty.

"As you travers the realms and face the unknown, let the virtues of our ancestors guide you. Be steadfast in your pursuit of wisdom and power, but let not the allure of strength blind you to the principles of honor and compassions."

Orion's eyes, ancient and all-seeing, bore into Aero's, imparting a silent message of encouragement and faith. Orion extended his hand, placing it upon Aeros shoulder in a gesture of benediction. "Go forth, Aeros Stormhaven. Let the stars bear witness to your glory. May the winds of fortune guide your path, and may the light of our ancestors illuminate the darkness that lies ahead."

The surroundings were silent, the words hanging in the air like a sacred vow.

"Thank you Grandfather. I vow to uphold the honor of our clan," Aeros replied, his voice steady, imbued with a newfound resolve.

Orion nodded, a hint of pride flickering in his eyes. "Good luck Child, May the cosmos watch over you."

With those final words, Orion stepped back, his figure receding as if merging with the fabric of the universe itself.

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, their voices a chorus of support and farewell for Aeros. Aeros did a final sweep of his surroundings, taking in all of the familiar faces. His closest friends, the comrades he had trained alongside for years, beamed with pride and hope. Among the well-wishers were his uncles and aunt, their eyes brimming with approval and optimism. But there was one person missing: Ryxthar, his supposed travel companion, was conspicuously absent. Perhaps Ryxthar had devised a secret method to meet them on their journey? Aeros pondered silently.

Turning toward his uncle Serus, who stood patiently with a warm smile, Aeros was taken aback when a sudden sharp pain shot through Serus's side. With a startled yelp, Serus stumbled as Aria, Aeros's fierce mother, materialized beside him, her gaze stern and unwavering.

"Promise me, Serus," Aria declared, her grip on his side tightening just a bit, "you'll protect my son with your life, little brother."

"Of course, Sister!" Serus exclaimed, his voice laced with playful innocence as he blinked up at her with puppy-dog eyes. "But what about your beloved little brother? Don't you worry for him?"

Aria responded with a disdainful flick of her sleeve. "Enough of your antics," she huffed. "Both of you, be on your way before I decide to make a meal for Aeros for lunch."

With a final, heartfelt embrace, Aero approached his mother, her eyes beginning to glisten with unshed tears. "Take care, my son," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Aeros nodded, his own eyes filled with determination and excitement. "Let's go, Uncle," he said, a bright smile on his lips.
