Katherine replayed Charles's words over and over again in her head while he waited for her response.
"I know I might not mean anything to you, but for me, you mean so much more than everything. Please don't deny us anymore. We need this. We need each other. If just for tonight."
She was worried that he was going to say he wanted to have his own room, or that he needed more space or more time, but he said the literal opposite, and Katherine was stunned into silence as she tried to process it all. Her thoughts were racing, and she couldn't decide if she felt relieved or overwhelmed.
Maybe Charles was right and it was exactly what she needed. She didn't need to overthink, she didn't need to worry or stress, and she didn't need time or space. She just needed him.
