Chapter 4 - Jack

Whoever the fuck made Sephy so jittery was going to pay. I swear to our lord and saviour that if someone touched her inappropriately, I'm gonna set the motherfucker on fire. I strolled across the grounds looking for that woman's trailer. The way I'm doing this makes me feel dirty but I've wanted to take Sephy from this place since she was little. She doesn't remember me but I remember her clearly and fondly. Around the time I was 10 and she was 8. My father had bought me around to this very circus stating he had business. Now when my father said business it meant he was gonna fuck every last woman on the premises. I wandered around at the back as there was no show, when I heard the sound of crying. I followed the sound until I reached the convention tent. A little girl was hunched over in the corner head buried in her knees. "Hey don't cry, the trees need that water more than your knees." I tried to be funny as I approached her so she wouldn't be so shocked to see me. She looked up wide eyed as I approached and sniffed. "You okay?" I asked. She nodded. "You talk?" She nodded again and I laughed. "Here come with me and we'll see if we can turn that frown upside down" I joked. It seemed to work a little a small smile was on her lips. I held out my hand and she took it. I know she didn't need my help she barely rested any weight on my hand. I held it tight as I guided her out of the tent. She still didn't say a word to me but the occasional sniff let me know her crying had subsided. Father had given me a quarter, which meant he didn't want to see me for the next few hours. Although there was no big shows today, a few attractions were still open including the food stands. I took her to one and bought us a couple of hotdogs and a cotton candy. She stared at me when I offered her one. "I'm not allowed to eat today" she whispered. "Okay well I won't tell anyone if you do, go on" and practically forced it into her hand. She eyed it longingly and I watched her, she was so timid. "Go on little one, it's all yours" I encouraged her. She looked around before taking a bite. The pleasure crossed her face, almost like she'd never had a hotdog before. She finished it in 4 bites and licked her lips. "Thank you" she whispered again. "You're welcome, little one, here have some cotton candy" I took her hand again and we strolled while she picked at the sugar. "So do you have a name?" I enquired. "Sephora" she was still whispering as if she couldn't speak over that octave. "What a beautiful name, I'm jack. So do you perform?" I asked. She nodded, she went back to not speaking to me. When the cotton candy was finished she had pink sugar all over her mouth. I laughed at her innocence. I grabbed my handkerchief and began rubbing it off her face. She giggled in response and I smiled. She was beautiful. Just then a lady came up to us, scowling. "Sephora Thompson, what the hell are you doing?" Sephora's smile faded fast. "Nothing mother" she replied. "Get your ass back in that tent and practice now!" The woman screamed at her. Sephora dropped my hand and ran fast back to the convention tent. The woman regarded me with cold eyes. "And who might you be boy?" "Jack osbourne, ma'am" She looked taken aback "Oh well carry on" and with that she stalked away to the convention tent after Sephora. Wow what a piece of work, no wonder Sephora was crying. I vowed to take that girl away from her mother and make her happy.

Back in the present day, I reached the madam's trailer. Knocking was just a formality, she knew I was here and what I wanted. "Come in" she called. "Hello, Violet" I replied. "Oh Jack I didn't know you were coming today" she was sitting at her vanity table. What a bitch. "It's time" keeping to the small talk. I didn't want to waste my time with her, I just wanted to bundle Sephy up and carry her away, but rules and all. "Ok when are you coming for her? Tonight?" She said, there was an almost glee in her voice at getting rid of her own daughter. "When you explain to her what's happening" I certainly wasn't going to explain to Sephy her mother had basically sold her to keep my father happy and from taking over this run down circus. "Okay come back tonight after the last show, I'll have her ready" she said. Tonight? She wasn't going to even let her think about it. Fucking bitch. I nodded done with this woman and only thinking about Sephy. I left and walked through the grounds again. The stall where I bought her a hotdog was still there. I wonder… I walked up the the stall and bought two hotdogs and a cotton candy. I walked back to the convention tent ready with my offering but Sephy was no where to be found. Damn I really wanted to see if she still got sugar round her mouth. Disappointed, I walked towards the exit, along the way I saw a little girl crying. My heart automatically skipped remembering Sephy crying, although this girl didn't look like she was just beaten, I assumed she just lost her family. "Hey there, the trees need more water than your knees" The girl looked up at me wide eyed and sniffing. "Here have these little one" I passed her a hotdog and the cotton candy. "Have you lost your parents?" I asked. She nodded, making my heart squeeze again. "Okay let's go look for them shall we?" I took the little girls hand and she demolished the hot dog and started picking at the candy. When she's finished I noted the sugar around her mouth. I chuckled and pulled out my handkerchief rubbing at her face just like I did 10 years ago to my love. "Holly, holly!!" I heard shouting in the background. The girl's expression changed, "Mama!" She shouted as a lady ran up to her and gathered her up in a hug. "Thank you sir" she said as she looked up at me. I smiled, "My pleasure ma'am"
