Chapter 3 - Expectation (part#1)

I supposed the next day, the morning of 7th October to be full of awe and mysteries just like the day earlier. But to the joke I woke to the delicious smell of sunny side eggs coming from somewhere early in the dawn. Laughing it off I slept in. When I finally woke up, it was eight in the morning.

I came down stairs after freshening up and found a lady in her thirties preparing breakfast. She must be the one who is responsible for professor's fuel and suppers I guessed. And professor was there sitting in the lawn with tea (which is obviously he brewed by himself by the looks of it from through the translucent cut lying on the table beside him) and puffing on a cigarette while having a thorough inspection on the daily news. That image, he looked like some 'firangi sahib'.

He looked at me and greeted in response to my 'good morning' and asked me to eat the breakfast. I took the seat in the dining table. The professor then came after which he exchanged about the news that he just came across to and had that simple yet satisfyingly pleasant breakfast. After the lady left to partake her duties in the household I asked, "Sir, what are your thoughts of today's 'might be occurring' events?"

"The weather seems rather nice today no? Shall we go for a stroll in the beaches?" he offered. He might have wanted to take precautions to which I also agreed.

Walking on the beach with the waves washing our feet, the sky azure clear with white fluffy cotton candies floating here and there. Such a romantic moment! Just as I was about to get myself indulged into the delusion of having romance with my beloved one there, I got disappointedly dragged to earth by professor.

"Darsh, if you want you can quit now. This journey to disclose the mystery of these blue bodies sure enough sounds fascinating, but there are major life threats. Contrast to me, you are young and there is a long for you to go. Don't just sully that security of life now as later regrets will not fetch you a new life."

'This old man does know how to invoke one's emotions…' mumbling to myself I replied, "if I was intended to do so then I could never voluntarily stay over last night." The professor stood there a while staring at me without much on an expression on his face," …well, are not you a hot-blooded fella!" he said and then went back inside leaving me on the beach alone.

While standing there, staring at the waves washing away my foot from the scavenges the wave itself brought, I was wondering how in the world did I got that much of courage to say that? It was amusing to think about how my friends would react if they were to see the 'today's me'.

Though they are not friends particularly. I never thought of them as a friend but just some mere toys to have fun with, a medium to distract myself from the reality that I felt to be toxic to me and in many ways, I have hurt them a lot but they still backed me and stayed with me and encouraged me to change myself. I felt so pathetic. So sorry for my own existence and a nuisance to my friends and family.

I was glad that the professor does not know a single thing about me back then, but in the future that assurement became quit a burden.

When I returned to the house the professor called for me and said that I missed several calls. I looked at the call history and found 17 missed calls from office and friends and family all together. I did not call back. I was too much sentimental and so I switched off my cell phone, put it in a zip bag then wrapped a torques towel over it and threw it at the bottom of my duffel bag under my clothes stacked. And stormed out towards the down town market for a change of mood.

I strolled there aimlessly for quite a while and at it I thought of paying a visit to that deceased boy's family from yesterday. But there was no one there. Not even their small cottage. I might have forgotten their address I thought and so, I fumbled around asking people here and there ambiguously for that family's whereabouts.

In the daily market it seemed as if not a single soul there knew about them. As strange as it felt there was obvious possibility of them leaving this place where they lost their dear child. Yes, that's quite reasonable.

I wandered around a bit more tried some local delicacies and made my return only when it was late noon. I looked for professor to ask him about todays event but he seemed to be out running some errands. I went to the kitchen. The maid had already left after her cleaning duties. There was a platter of dish in there on the kitchen counter with a note which went like, the food meant for me and the professor's visit to the post office from where he will probably return in the evening.

So, that gives off a hint that the event is going to be in the night time…?

I ate the food. Took a short nap. The nap lasted quite long and when I woke up it was already dark outside. The professor has not returned yet. Should I give him a call? I went to the balcony. Looked at the road to see whether professor is in his way or not. I gave him a call. One after another. It went on ringing and ringing and he was not picking up. I waited for an hour. There was no sign of him coming anytime soon. So, I helped myself with the liberty to take a tour in his house.

The house was really neat and tidy for someone who lives alone and only have a maid appointed for the quarter the time of a day. After the tour I gave him another call while coming downstair to the beach when I heard his phone ringing. I opened the door in expectation of receiving him but there was no one there. The ring of the phone still continued.

I looked around to see where the sound is coming from. Is this some kind of prank? Where is the camera? There was his phone lying on the sand stained red alongside a cascade of a woman in white drenched in blood.
