"You know what? Dette, you don't have to do this." I said in a calm voice. We're here in the kitchen, I'm still on my pajamas. Drinking my morning coffee, peacefully. Not until, this woman in front of me appears and tells me that I should dress up. She set me up again with some random girls she know.
"I don't have to, but you have to! Leris, look…" she's frustrated. "We knew each other since who knows when. This is our last year in college, we're best friends and I want to help you-" I didn't let her finished her sentence.
"Help me from what?" I asked seriously that makes her stop. Alright, I'm having a gender-identity-crisis. I know I'm a man. However, is it normal to not have a feelings for someone? I mean, romantically. In my twenty-two years of existence in this world, I haven't been in love nor infatuated to someone. I've never had a crush on someone. Is that normal?
I appreciate when I saw someone beautiful but that's it. I always appreciate everyone's beauty, though. I'm not attracted with girls, so Odette speculated that I'm a gay. However, I'm also not attracted with the same gender as I have. That's why, she started setting me up to some random girls and guys that she knows.
She kept quite while I'm waiting for her answer.
"Help me from what, Dette? Tell me!" I challenge her. I tried to look directly at her eyes but she avoided my gaze.
"S-sorry, I just want you to… Sorry Leris." she said while looking at the floor. She looks like a kid that was scolded by their parents.
"Fine, you don't have to say sorry. But, make sure this is the last, Odette." I said with a treat in my voice.
I got up and went straight to my room to get dressed. Since we went to college, my mom and Odette came up to this idea and have been doing this for years, now. And I'm already tired doing this 'set up' thing. I am not in a hurry to enter into a relationship. I also don't see myself having a relationship in the near future. I just let them do it before because I thought they would get tired but they didn't. So I hope this is the last because I'm really tired.
I'm not good interacting with strangers, it's uncomfortable. I didn't bother to think what I'm going to wear. What I got in my closet was just what I wore. It is a plain white tee and a denim pants. I paired it with a black rubber shoes. All done. I hope the girl I'm meeting up is not a creep. I go out of my room and find Dette. I don't know where I am going to meet up the girl. By the way, Odette and I are living in the same apartment. I found her in the garden, watering the plants.
"Oh, you're ready. Her name is Beatriz de Capitulo, half Spanish half Filipino. She's from Manila, so be nice to her. If I'm not mistaken, she doesn't know how to drive so most probably she took a cab or an uber. Be a gentleman offer her a ride to Manila-" I know she's still going to say something but I cut her off.
"Offer a ride to Manila? God, Odette!" I burst out. Manila is five hours away from Laguna.
"Alright, just call an uber for her. Okay?" I calm myself and nod. "You're going to meet at Satya Graha Restaurant." She said and continued on watering the plants.
Satya Graha? Is she vegetarian? I just shrugged.
"I'm going." I said and went out because that's where my car was parked.
